  1. Quite a striking livery the fag packet especially on a 47 https://flic.kr/p/8tfLJf
  2. Iv had stuff delivered fine by anyone my dad had a wierd one ordered some stuff from the states to an apartment in Canada he was staying in during the work contract period had the apartment address and everything clearly instead it ended up with me at home in the UK. I did have one incident from a mate he rang me fuming that Yodel had delivered his parcel but was nowhere to be seen the idiot had chucked it in one of his wheelie bins to be found by me on my arrival around his house as the bin had blown over. Yodel also seem to crush things alot or leave em out in the elements or wheelie bins. I had some kits delivered via them to find crushed box and water damaged like it had fallen out of the back of the van when the door was open wasnt pleased also purchased a new rear end for one of my mk2s as it was broke when i purchased it the Yodel man had tried forcing it through the letterbox and called it delivered in a crushed condition
  3. Got some BR Inter-city mk2 second coaches (R724) on hold at the local model shop and was wondering did BR ever run them as complete mk2 rake or mixed it with mk1s but i guess there must be some sort of compatibility issue between the mk1 and mk2 or something similar. What was the purpose of the center door when it had doors at either end of the coach seemed a little weird to me considering they tried the gangway doors on the ends of the coach but got rid of them as they proved troublesome. Where mk1s confined to urban routes when BR introduced the Mk2 meaning that it replaced them on express services to upgrade services, quality for passengers and the company image
  4. Using leftover track I have a big mess on the bedroom floor working out the track plan for how big I need the base board. Decided to get this one rolling over December as TV is crap and there's not alot to do so have decided to either go Cheddleton - Leekbrook and end it at the tunnel with a cassette type yard on the end or go Cheddleton - Consall directions
  5. A couple of mates of mine we get together in the loft at one house call it a club and model but one commented on what Hattons call there condition of the 2nd hand stuff usually is different than on the website
  6. Does any manufacturer make them at all
  7. What is a barrier coach is it more of a converted baggage coach
  8. Going to the exhibit this weekend at Crewe so will think about seeing whats there for this project.I am purchasing some track for a project on the main layout but might get a few other things to kickstart this off. When i get paid at the end of the month might purchase the baseboard for it we shall see how it unfolds and might post progress pictures
  9. Apart from using class 08s at depots I guess they used locos to haul stock around to other depots or to go to the workshop or I guess they just moved the whole HST to another depot or workshop
  10. Didn't know about the class 04 being withdrawn so early in my time period. One ring motor sorta works the other 2 catch fire a little inside the intercity set is complete but the other is only the driving end. I think they used locos to move Mk3 stock around the depots and such using freight locos or normal ones or stuff
  11. I currently own a BR blue class 04, 31, 33 and a 35 but was wondering in that era I was interested in the railfreight livery as it looks nice but is it the right era for one and what locos would have worn it to fit in. Been tempted for a while to get another loco and was tempted for either an intercity liveried one to pull my mk3s around as Iv busted the ring motors in the 3 125s I own or the railfreight or a freight livery to go with the various goods wagons I own
  12. Nice set of images he has on there might have to take a thorough look after work on there and save a few for references whenever i start it
  13. Interesting info Chard did they operate in Railfreight livery or standard BR Blue pulling sand duties
  14. Have been considering this as a side project to my main layout as a way to lean things. Its not that far up the road and when iv been there several times its quite a nice setting for a railway so have a couple of questions as a starting point. 1) Since this is a preserved railway running both steam and diesel locomotives was wondering since i have a few small steam engines and some diesels and lots of rolling stock available what sort of traffic would this line have run up untill 1988. I know it carried passengers up until 1965 but was this a scheduled service using steam and diesels and what sorta company was using the line in steam era. 2) Got a mix of coaching ranging from mk1s to mk3s and a small mix of freight wagons. For steam would i need some coaching in the old non BR colours and which would look right for the line and the type of wagons was it mostly coal wagons or a mix of vans coal wagons and tankers 3) I have this book at home which is a start and has some useful info in it as a starting base to get started but was looking to expand with peoples knowledge on the line 4) Any other info people tell me about the whole line in general http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Churnet_Valley_Railway would be interesting to read and become more knowledgeable on
  15. So what were the golden arrow blue/grey dining cars released ages ago still mk1s and was it run in a special consist
  16. Is it the chassis or something that gives it away as being mk1 over mk2 or are there other features to look out for when telling them apart
  17. Here's the buffet car image oops iPad upside down
  18. The 27 i own is this one has a Scottish terrier on the side but was wondering im subscribed on youtube to a few layouts based on that area but tend not to see the Scottish terrier was this removed from some and my research on this loco mentioned it did push pull passenger duties (EDI - GLA i think) and freight would they have been hauling Scottish region BR blue and was there a difference in the coaches for Scottish routes at all. Noticed Hornby have some in there new range but the tinted windows is the biggest complaint when running with older stock and cheers for the info Flood will come in handy. I'm not modeling Scotland but thought it was a cheap bargain and couldn't resist
  19. The HST livery thing was trying to think of a way of describing the Black n white/or cream livery and ended up with that i guess i could have used Swallow/Executive instead
  20. So are Hymeks not generally used with Mk2 coaching stock because of the incompatibility with the braking system being different. Will have to post a photo of the buffet car but the box i got it in mentioned Mk2 on the label but it might be someone using an old box they had to sell it on via the model shop think it had intercity on the side but need to check. Some have pointed out on other forums BR used to sometimes mix liveries within a rake meaning that you might come across an intercity HST livery or network southeast or even regional railways within a rake so on that principal should I mix it up to create a authentic charter rake or stick to one livery.
  21. I recently purchased a Mk2 Buffet car to put in my mk3 intercity rake as one for that is expensive then i decided to create a rake of mk2s as a charter train on the layout. My question is since im interested in getting not the compartment ones but the center isle ones the 2+2 seating like airplanes some had tables. My locos are a class 31, 35 and a class 27 and was wondering when did the center isle mk2s enter service did they replace the compartmented ones in service or did they run together in some rakes. The other question is what is a standard rake operating order
