  1. Became a volumteer at last weekends open day and today been out helping them sand and paint a shunter in the shed and was talking to them as they mentioned the american locos they have one under restoration and one running but is there any history on them. Its interesting to talk to volunters and members you get to know alot about the railway and its operations the locos and future projects and other bits going on here and there like the 47 in the yard im keen to have a poke at in RES livery was purchased from crew depot by a member after it sitting around for ages rotting away
  2. Facebook feed found this An American Locomotive builder's photo of new Monon C420 #505 at Schenectady, New York circa 1966.
  3. Here is the LNER coach I'm thinking of using quite ugly looking behind the decent looking teaks might convert it to engineering use if it's of any use from community opinion and pics
  4. I do have a 27 i dug out of the loft i could also use also found some interesting things on pauls site like this HST barrier coach http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/departmental975900/h570b06c4#h570b06c4i coud have on the layout as part of the engineering train. There was this Mk3 that caught my attention because iv never seen one as a laboratory http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/departmental975900/h491feed0#h491feed0, There where also stuff like tool shed for breakdown train with the yellow and hasard thingys along the side and some cranes. I have some LNER Teaks i like but the BG is terrible and was wondering could it be used as a conversion for something (pic to follow when i get up to the layout later). I have one set of Mk3s loco haulled and the other with 125s so a HTS Barrier coach could work and look nice in the TMD just looking for something to go with it like an enginering train and i could have the barrier on the end of the train. Might go out tomorrow and purchase the crane to start on if i dont find much else to do and the yellow from the humbrol range
  5. On about these coaches http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/departmental975100/h48c89118#h48c89118
  6. Someone posted shots on flickr of yellow set of coaches withdrawn at Derby with black warning marking along the side below the windows dunno what there for but loked interesting and cheers for the info jus reading through hmrspauls link he posted getting a good idea of what sort of things are what when people mention the different types
  7. Looking for a small consist for an engineering train to be pulled by a spare 47 i have and was wondering what sort of engineering trains ran around. Iv seen one that could use the Hornby crane painted yellow as part of a consist but iv only just started my research and was looking for some knowledge from the good crowds on here
  8. Saw this interesting wagon on Flickr DB Schenker Coal Wagon HTA 317082 love the full body graphiti https://flic.kr/p/CsAE6r
  9. This is an interesting working through Macclesfield https://youtu.be/DKbNxGBeTIQ But myself have only seen the NRT twice in the flesh through Macclesfield once pulled by a DB loco the other just saw a glimpse of one of the Mk2 coaches
  10. Saw this photo in Model Railroaders Jan issue and it made me think of you. Pic is no1, no2 is the caption for the pic might give insporation on locos and or scenery
  11. Dont often find things to add to the freight stock think total fleet is like 7 or 8 pieces dosnt even cover one track in the tmd on the back. Might post some running pics tomorrow in my tmd thread if i play with the layout in its preserved phase. If i can get my LNER V2 to stop derailing on curves then might have it pull this along with the other freight wagons. Its a nicely detailed piece from lima along with there other products i have on the layout kinda make Hornby look cheap but if you go for newer stuff from Hornby these days its kinda competing with lima quality and detail.
  12. Was it converted from another wagon for use in this capacity seems odd having the grey plugs in it on the model
  13. heres the wagon on the layout behind my 04 shunter at work
  14. I bought the Lima version of this today and read up about it but still cant understand there purpose or why youd want one on your layout. I just got it as it was unusuall item for a fiver was torn between this or a loco and went for this looks superb model for its age and goes well with my other vans i have in the small amount of freight wagons I own
  15. My local area stopped selling alot of things and the collections i was looking forward to getting one of the new things for a out of service loco in BR livery
  16. Cheers David heres some pics of the loco for reference
  17. Purchased this Bachmann model Monday from the local model shop 2nd hand for £40 its named Green Arrow in late BR livery but have a couple of questions 1) Its missing a nameplate on one side wonder where i could get a replacement may as well replace both 2) The rear spruns axle on the loco seems to be derailing on either points or on the curves is there a fix or something I can do 3) Tender logos seem a bit worn on one side is there decals i can acquire to replace the tatty one and i think some of the numbering is tatty to 4) Anyone done upgrades to this model to improve the visuals 4) could I use BR Blue coaches with this or was it run with certain type been running it with a mix of Mk1s n 2s and the Golden Arrow dining cars I have in K type 5) Did any of these run in tandem together at all on services thinking of getting the other non NR one for the same price in the shop if i can fix my issies with this one and smarten it up
  18. Nice you planning on having rescue loco in that scheme for pulling broken down HSTs
  19. Been looking at getting a CP engineering train manifest of sorts worked out to run my ATSF Plymouth Switcher with as its collecting dust still want to keep it CP consist just the power wont be but i can sometimes swap it out for running sessions. So would a CP enginnering train manifest be lots of gondolas, boxcars and some flatcars possibly a crane with a caboose on the end i suppose which means i can get some arrow liveried early CP Rail wagons to make a consist
  20. Cheers guys for the info here is some progress sofar. I have decided to bite the bullet and convert my CSX GP40-2 into a dummy unit without touching the existing Bachmann internals but dont know how or where to get a dummy inside to plonk a bodyshell onto. Thinking maybe put an action red arrow livery bodyshell on it need to do my research first then acquire the correct shell 2nd hand
  21. Concidered today getting myself some more gondolas and having some scrap loads like i have in my CSX (B&O) gondola so have been trawling ebay and found a couple of red CP ones are they correct for the period but need to do more research and find pictures also been on the lookout for an L&N boxcar for the grain train as a leased in one. I suppose i could technically use my SP ones in a grain consist but i thought for realism effects id go from what iv seen in pictures
  22. Found a website yesterday that had shots of a depot in 1974 with one shot showing an L&N boxcar in frame was this common. Will send the pics to myself from work to post up what I mean they also showed the Canadian Pacific Railways boxcars in the sort of indented logo word below word scheme is the best I can explain it pics will show all
  23. Book arrived today should come in handy
  24. Ordered some track with them last month still havnt recieved it Hattons really need to get there courrier system better i mean i phoned them to ask where my order was they said with the courrier i phone the courrier with the details hattons gave me for my tracking number the courrier said they hadnt got it Hattonsd said theyd shipped it which clearly not so i axed my order and went somewhere else. I tried ordering an airfix kit or 2 and some grain hoppers to get to checkout to pay put my details in and it kept timing out I think hattons is slowly loosing customers because of there practices courrier choices and website being unstable at times or most of the time. There local not too far away from me and are cheap at times sometimes fast but not always and a pain in the arse to deal with. I had an order in march never get to me because stock figures on the site didnt match actuall values in there warehouse so naturally i complained and then cancelled the order when i didnt like there answer and went to my local place walking distance to get the same things instead. Hattons need to up there game conciderably to stand a change at getting more and more repeat customers fromus ar RM web
  25. Cheers Adrian will need to keep looking for different hoppers to make a small consist up rather than me jut buy more cylindrical ones trying to vary it a bit to liven up running on the layout. Got outbid a while back for a Budd RDC i bid 45 quid the asking price it then went from that to 210 quid bizzare unless some people are despirate for it.My rolling stock book hasnt arrived yet maybe tomorrow morning but i suppose thats not a big deal it will come in handy when picking my choices to expand the stock
