  1. does it have the DVD or model kit with it?
  2. At some point they need to stop trying to be clever before they manage to alienate their readers by making all of them feel someone else is getting a better offer, or being so confused they buy a competitor magazine since they don't end up with a nagging feeling that they've bought the wrong version of the magazine with a dvd, or not with a dvd but with a model, or digital only with extra pages but no model or dvd, or a cheap subscription copy with a DVD but no model, or a subscription offer that came with a gift copy......... It is a good issue this month but this is being buried under the confusion over what of the many versions of BRM any of us are actually getting.
  3. Despite all the "expert opinion" no one has posted the link to the Hornby page with all the packs on and the list of dealers who will get them: https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/signature_and_sovereign
  4. This was a trial show on a limited budget, the only way a modelling related show would get shown on one of the main terrerstial channels on prime time. To get high profile presenters like GBBO would probably cost more than the entire budget for this series. The format and concept is being tried, if it works then the channel may pay more for enhanced production values in later series. If it doesn't work it will be get canned and they will try something else. And big names in any area of business/activity only get heavily involved once they know it works. The production crew won't know much about it as their job is producing TV programmes, and tomorrow they might be making one about zoos or fish fingers. Again this is likely to change if it takes off. I don't know what the budget was, but compared to the cost/budgets of most Friday night 8pm programmes it will have been tiny. It is also unrealistic to expect perfection first time out. The really great, positive news is that modelling in general is on TV more and more, with things like the Battle of Britain RC planes programme (great but ouch, looks expensive given the amount they crash!) as well as growing railway related programmes.
  5. They were - the chap talked about his courses and how good they were early in the programme. It was a prelude to later comments that set up the 'david v goliath' storyline for the programme. The point that he and his team missed was this was TV not modelling. And TV is about human interest and fitting to one of the generic story scripts e.g. good v evil, the downfall of the hubristic etc. The desire to win at all costs and bend the rules whilst looking down on the opposition is a classic human interest storyline, and we all know how the story ends! Overall very good and terrific to see modelling on prime time TV. I have been teasing SWMBO (who works in marketing) that I am 'on trend' as railways and modelling is now breaking into the mainstream after last week's 125 progs and increasing railway related media etc I hope this benefits modelling businesses - there will definitely be a short term uptick but the question is can it be sustained?
  6. The scratchbuild challenge was good - well done Strangers! And naughty Missenden......
  7. An ad blocker might help your issues.
  8. Quick response, thanks! Shame, much as the Hattons Beilhacks are nice, I'd like 2 of the independents and there are no kits nor RTR models - Flangeway ones go for silly money.
  9. Would be good if they re-released the independent snowplough kit
  10. You will have the files but if I've understood it correctly to be able to read those files you need proprietary software. Thus you are reliant on Pocketmags or Warners updating this software indefinitely. There is no guarantee about this. Pocketmags T&C's make clear they can stop their service at any time without compensation. If you want to be sure of having access in 5 or 10 or 20 years time then paper is still the only way to guarantee they can be read.

  12. Sadly it doesn't look like they are available any more
  13. The Shenfield Show was most excellent, thanks to Mid Essex MRC. Great layouts and some great traders
  14. Great to see Portwey in the flesh today at Shenfield. Lovely micro layout.
  15. There is a possession this weekend between Marks Tey and Chelmsford, here's some pics from Witham including before and after JNA's and a Kirow crane in the distance under the wires.
  16. Probably because the number of Comms Managers who have that is quite limited and Bachmann wouldn't necessarily want to exclude an otherwise excellent comms manager who isn't a rail fan but can learn about it.
  17. Digital does seem to be ideal for those who put too many apostrophes in their comments.
  18. Bought these magnifying glasses, arrived in a week and work really well for the price (£1.50!). Probably not ideal for extended use but great value: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neu-Pro-Gro%C3%9F-Vision-Vergr%C3%B6%C3%9Fernd-Brille-250-Vergr%C3%B6%C3%9Ferung-Eyewear-Lesebrille/292496308576?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  19. As an aside here is my 1:76 Airfix Scorpion tank that I built and painted 30 years ago! This cheap and simple kit would be ideal for these wagons and I have emailed Airfix to suggest they re-release under their Vintage range. There does appear to be a big gap in the diecast/model kit market for 1:76 modern military vehicles.
  20. Just found this on the tube - cost a few quid to model but all are/will be available RTR
  21. Having had 2 of these for some time and only run them in and done some consists of container wagons, I've been trying to use them with other freight rolling stock and cannot get them to complete a circuit without derailing the wagon attached to them. In both cases the coupling is sitting much lower than the wagons and the hooks overlap on curves and derail/flip the first wagon. i tried various wagons, lubing the coupling, trimming the pipes etc. Removed the hook from the 68's coupling but it is so low the wagon hook can't get connect. The two locos have the same issue and they are not sagging. Have read the thread, don't want to go down the Kadee route, any recommendations on particular replacement couplings to try and get a height match/resolution? Thanks
  22. It was covered in detail in the March issue of Rail Express, NR granted access to the photographer including internal shots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cjw2/sets/72157691738384861/ It had been reported that it had been removed late last year but it hasn't moved for years. That siding was also used by Freightliner Class 66's which were acting as Thunderbirds during the realignment works at Shenfield (see post 312 onwards).
