  1. Another of my posts from the Warwell thread of trains that can now be modelled with RTR Warflat stock:
  2. A chance to repost one of my fave youtube vids.... WMIK's on Warflats...
  3. As a caution, if anyone is thinking of having people in a building overnight and sleeping you will need to make sure suitable fire safety arrangements are in place. Most office/school/commercial buildings do not meet the required fire safety standards for sleeping accommodation. A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment for the proposed use would need to be in place. If they are awake all night then there isn't an issue, but be aware as the penalties for non-compliance are severe.
  4. Truly terrible. All I can suggest is that if the perpetrators are taken court then as many affected people as possible submit a Victim Personal Statement. The Police should offer this. The VPS can explain to the Court the true impact of the offences and be taken into account for sentencing. https://www.cps.gov.uk/sites/default/files/documents/legal_guidance/joint-agency-guide-victim-personal-statement_0.pdf
  5. Took the train to Ely and walked to the show. Good show, quiet when I arrived just after lunch but was filling up later on. Really enjoyed Morlock Heath, fantastic modern image O gauge micro layout, chatting with the operator. Very tempting to try O. Found a fab Springside 4mm white metal kit of a Range Rover on the Great Eastern Models stand for £3 Could have spent a lot more but resisted. Walked back via the Cathedral and quickest train route back was via Norwich, so got to see DRS and ROG 37's and new Stadler units at Crown Point. Thanks to the organisers.
  6. Why? Just because DJM has issues doesn't mean any others won't work. I joined the original Pendolino Kickstarter, and when that didn't quite make it over the line I still committed to over £1000 worth of Pendo's at the early bird prices. Rewarded with excellent models, along with many others. Had a number of other crowd funded models since, none a problem. Crowd funding isn't the problem.
  7. Re the earlier accuracy discussion, the current Hornby 'Engine Shed' mentions the fact that "accurately" modelled bolts on the Large Prairie did not look right so had to be modified to look right on the model. https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/news/the-engine-shed/large-prairie-mk2f-big-boy
  8. Please stop this hyperbolic nonsense. Even if what is alleged did occur it is not illegal and definitely won't result in model railway makers being raided. It is however potentially libellous to suggest it is. Incorrect. If it can reasonably be deduced who it is it is libellous. They don't have to be named.
  9. Top tip - don't use PayPal for crowd funding. PayPal is great for buying stuff and great for vendors who understand its strengths and weaknesses but it is not set up for crowdfunding speculative schemes. PayPal is a digital mostly automated business - if people cause problems PayPal will take arbitrary action against them. People are deluding themselves if they think PayPal (or any other global digital business) will bend to their personal requirements. After their initial wild west phase in the early days I have used PayPal for business and personal transactions and found it to be highly effective. But there are some things I don't do with it. Don't use it for big transactions if you are selling as they favour customers by default (and aligned to legal requirements) so a dodgy punter can get an instant refund if they game it the system As long as you understand it it is fine.
  10. The bottom line seems to be DJM has some as yet undefined issues causing them problems. Rather than deal with them professionally behind the scenes DJM has made a big announcement (with a pre-announcement for maximum effect) about nothing. The idea that registering a cad design is some big game-changer in modelling as per release no.1 is probably bonkers. The subsequent responses are entirely reasonable given that DJM deliberately chose to maximise the exposure of this. Due to inexperience or poor judgement DJM failed to realise that all their customers want is quality model trains, not arrogant and uninformed press releases about how DJM is changing the model railway business. Sadly it appears DJM cannot accept that they have not even come close to matching their own hype, and have failed spectacularly to deliver, whilst a host of new entrants have come in and actually delivered amazing new models whilst DJM flounder around. Unless and until DJM can accept they are not in any way at the cutting edge of the sector this nonsense will continue. As someone posted earlier, DJM need to keep quiet and deliver actual models. DJM have missed the boat in teaching the industry anything, everyone from Hornby to Cavalex has moved way past DJM. This situation is resolvable but DJM need to get over themselves and do the hard graft of running a business of delivering what customers want - actual models. If not then it won't be the first time hubris has ruined a business.
  11. Bit off topic but having supported various outfits crowd funding and pre-ordering I'm finding the consistent delays rather unsatisfying as a consumer. I am waiting for quite a few things but went to my local model shop last weekend to spend £20 on an actual model that was actually in stock and I could actually buy! And very satisfying it was too. Old school I know, buying stuff that actually exists in a shop, but there we are!
  12. Which is why his next update in the next few hours should be a detailed update on progress on all outstanding projects with details of their financial position and how to obtain a refund if required to reassure existing customers that things are under control.
  13. As a general rule the terms that apply will be those prevailing at the time. Subsequent amendments won't apply. And a vendor would need to provide a court with clear records of what was said when and what alterations were made to webpages etc. This catches businesses out as they don't think to keep a copy of every iteration of every webpage. No clear records put them in a very weak position in court.
  14. On the plus side it is more interesting than Brexit and Huwawey. And almost as bonkers!
  15. Phil Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent service on this, safely arrived and running sweetly. Regards Tony
  16. A great thread. Going slightly off piste but a couple of thoughts/observations: 1) You can currently buy a [Network Rail?] yellow Billy bookcase https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/bookcases/billy-bottna-bookcase-with-display-shelf-yellow-blue-spr-29284593/ 2) for a fiddle yard just have another billy adjoining the first one and cut through the sides - or use one of their extended versions. Shelves could be used as cassettes for rolling stock? Not going to do Billy modelling currently as creating longer fiddle yards for my micro layout by chopping 4' x 2' boards down the middle......
  17. Yet Sadiq is still banging on about TfL taking on suburban lines from NR.
  18. Detail I Just noticed is how rusty the buffers are on 68020.
  19. The shop is just across the road from Derby Road station, on the Felixstowe branch, so you can ride a 153 to get there and watch the container trains pass.
  20. I think Bachmann are having a clear out as I've have emails from other retailers such as TMC with the same items at similar prices in the last week or so. I do wonder if charging £40-50 per coach is sustainable and similar for wagons is sustainable for "normal" catalogue items. There are also a few Hornby steam locos (Coronation, Haig J36 etc and the GWR 153 buried at the end of the bargain pages)/
  21. I have no issues with the Gold and think it a good idea. This has probably already been said but as a print subscriber I like my paper mag and would, in an ideal world, like to pay a reduced Gold membership as a top-up to my print sub. The main thing I am interested in is the ability to access older articles on modelling, that is something I am really into. The rest of it is not of great interest at the moment (apart from the show ticket). However I can't justify a print sub and Gold. Well I could buy fewer coffees and less trains to pay for it but that ain't happening!! Just a thought, and fully appreciate what the team are doing
  22. Please could someone direct me to the instructions on how to upload images etc as I can't find them and can't figure out how to work it. Thanks.
  23. Oh. I thought that's what the Internet was for
  24. Loads of Azumas being tested on ECML yesterday, saw at least 5 on way to York.
