  1. Indeed, however that was never in doubt.
  2. Yes I know, but there were no regular weekday services from South Shields to M-I-T - at least in the summer of 1952 anyway.
  3. I've just been looking at it. I searched for LNER Steam > G5 > all. Ref is NE186. Edit: this one Colour-Rail Slide NE 186 Neville Hill Shed G5 1786 1937 CR134 | eBay
  4. On weekdays in 1952 there was a single direct train from Newcastle to Middleton-in-Teesdale, and two from Sunderland each day. 67258 was a regular performer it seems. I believe the trains from South Shields were summer Saturday only to Blackpool North via Stainmore.
  5. There's quite a well-known 'Colourail' colour photo of 1786 in lined LNER black, Westinghouse fitted, in reasonably good condition at Neville Hill in 1937. Was this a hangover of a discontinued livery, or did some get the red lining reinstated at a later stage?
  6. Yes dual braked and blue livery on the same visit to Donny in Feb 1968. Was in green full yellows, with BR arrows from Dec 1966, still vac braked.
  7. This is you being a regular guy, right? https://www.roads-and-rails.co.uk/index.html As you should have to start with.
  8. Written on the bands' own website by a competitor band, if we're going with your analogy. 🥱 Anyway you're overreaching, I didn't say it was ruined, just that it took the edge off, and I thought it was poorly judged. Less hyperbole, more reading required please. You must also have missed the two ‘funny’ icon responses from Accurascale on RnRs original post….
  9. I can quite happily take the moans of the standard RMWebber, such as yours, however R&R are a business selling DCC sound - and here they are on Accurascales' thread expressing immediate disappointment. R&R even acknowledge some doubt over posting, but they did so anyway.
  10. Does anyone else think it is poor form to rush on here talking about sound performance, before most have even received their locos, let alone run them? Mine has just arrived, and a quick catch up on here has really taken the edge off receiving it. Thanks a lot.
  11. Inner Suburban BS-S-S-S-BS at first, then S-S-BS-S-S, and finally S-S-S-BS-S-S The Outer Suburban sets inlcuded some open vehicles and were formed of more coaches, but worked out of KX only, @Fran - should the LMR BSs in Metrogauge be BTs to match the other Metrogauge stock? Great announcement by the way, I've been meaning to get a set of Baccy ones, but I won't bother now!
  12. Yes, they were painted out on the four surviving locos when they moved to York in June 1981. The other two locos (3 and 12) went to the scrap line still wearing them.
  13. That however wasn't the trading name for the last few years.
  14. I wondered about the use of the word 'began' which didn't seem to be consistent with that reported previously. Perhaps the intended workings from January didn't materialise as fulfilled rosters until April. Nevertheless the main point - that there was a short period of use on the N&W in 1962 - is at least documented in print, alongside a small handful of photographs. On the loco allocation, there's a bit of too and fro in the reportage, with allocation to Canton initially stated, and then corrected as all being at Bath Road, and then three allocated at Westbury, but later changed to outstationed from Bristol. BR Database has 16 Hymeks delivered by the end of 1961, and 27 before April 1962.
  15. I must confess to be being somewhat baffled by this thread's recent direction. A review of some contemporary reports (Modern Railways 1962) reveals that: March Issue Jan 8 Hymek Canton training commences with 09.40 Cardiff - Plymouth to Bristol 11.28 Plymouth - Cardiff from Bristol The first Type 3 duties ranging the whole of the North and West have been introduced, following the debut of this class on the 4.50 pm from Penzance to Manchester as far as Hereford, and the 12.45 am Manchester - Penzance back from there. From Jan 22 a Type 3 was rostered between Bristol and Shrewsbury to the 10.30 am Penzance - Manchester and 7.20 pm return. Another Type 3 duty now extends as far as Leicester Central on the 9.50 pm (10.25 SO) Swindon - York, and the 10.22 pm York - Bristol back as 2.11 am from Leicester, with a Swindon crewe in charge. April Issue Type 3 diagrammed workings 11.25 am Taunton - Minehead, and 1.20 pm return 16.25 am Taunton - Minehead, and 6.00 pm return from 19 Feb Two daily workigns to Weymouth, on the Kensington Milk, and the Milford Haven parcels May Issue South Wales - Paddington expresses commence with Hymeks from early March. Newton Abbot - Shrewsbury through working dieselised with Warships from March 5, the 9.10 am Liverpool LS - Plymouth and 8am return June Issue Further South Wales - Paddington expresses taken over. During April Canton's Hymek Type 3s began work over the North and West route; they were seen on 11.50 am Swansea - Manchester, and 2.50 pm Liverpool - Cardiff. Normal engine change location is Shrewsbury but moved to Hereford between March 11 and April 9 due to engineering work at Castle Foregate in Shrewsbury. July Issue Hymek workings over Minehead branch ceased at the end of April. August issue Warship type 4s took over several more expresses on the North and West route with the beginning of the summer timetable. Additional train covered are 7.55 am, 11 am, 12 noon, and 4.50pm from Penzance to the North West, and 8 am Plymouth - Liverpool, 8.40 am Cardiff - Manchester (from Pontypool Rd), the 12.30 and 9.05 am Liverpool - Penzance, and the 3.05 and 7.20 pm from Manchester to South Devon and Cornwall. Sept Issue Hymeks going to Gloucester for training for use on Cardiff - Gloucester in the coming Winter timetable. All regular weekday Class A trains on the North and West route are now Warship hauled between Crewe and Bristol. No longer any engine changes at Shrewsbury, however due to 'defections from duty' there are many more examples of WR steam locos at Crewe than in previous years. Much of the foregoing supports the comment on the photograph in relation to northbound from Bristol. (I'm not sure why anyone would think it referred to southbound workings). So in summary, Hymeks for a brief period in 1962 (approximately January to June), worked expresses from Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea to the North-West, with a planned engine change at Shrewsbury (or less commonly Hereford), until the Warships took over from new timetable commencing 18 June 1962. From then on the loco worked through to Crewe, as the Shrewsbury engine change had been dispensed with. All three of the photos linked in this thread fit with the narrative recorded in 1962.
  16. The photo isn't the point of interest, it was the comment beneath: "All North to West expresses from Bristol were steam hauled until January 1962, when Hymeks took over 1M96. By the Summer Service 1962, all were rostered for Warships. Summer Saturday extras and frequent Warship failures and non-availability resulted in frequent steam substitutions."
  17. There is a remark on this photo that suggests the Hymeks only worked the North & West up to the summer of 1962, which does fit with the photo evidence so far.
  18. Ah yes of course, I was forgetting about the North and West. And here we are at Hereford, D7023-1M72-Hereford-5-5-1962-mike-hemming-collection by Mike Hemming, on Flickr and Shrewsbury ready to depart. 19. I've not seen any photos of Hymeks at Crewe on passenger trains. Warships and Westerns yes, but not Hymeks. I'm not sure they would have got beyond Gloucester or Birmingham in this period, other than for a lack of absolutely any other traction.
  20. I'm aware of a couple of examples: 8th Nov 1967 D7082 was seen at Stockport on a Barry Docks – Healey Mills Freight. It worked LE back to Gloucester. 19th Nov 1968 D7056 was seen at Colwick on a freight from Cowley.
  21. Yes I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't the other way around too, with Rapido using the scanning date as the launch date after hearing on the grapevine that EFE were planning one too. It's not a "Titgate" for sure, but there were a quite a few skirmishes leading up to that embarassing debacle for Hornby. The level of competitive tension has certainly been increasing for several years now, and the established players are feeling it.
  22. Fair enough, but presumably that's a different industry or market? I'm factoring in that Bachmann have their own factory, space booked, and that die-cast models don't need much assembly compared to a super-detailed loco or similar.
  23. It's odd that both manufacturers have missed the actual 50th anniversary already, and then announce within 5 days of each other a month or so later on. The EFE's ones are slated to be here in July/August 2022, so no, I don't think are ready to leave the factory by any means. Certainly 3-4 months would seem to be just enough time to commit to making a non-complex die-cast model from the existing tooling, and get them shipped here, but no doubt some expert like phil will tell me different. So, just an unhappy coincidence then? Perhaps let us see when the respective buses actually show up. It interesting to note that EFE are also doing a new tool LT Daimler Fleetline - hot on the heels of the Rapido WMPTE versions selling out.
  24. No mention of new tooling from Rails, and frankly if it is new tooling, poorly painted old toolings really aren't going to sell them at that price. Somewhat depressingly, it seems Bachmann are now following Hornby's strategy of trying to spike their competitors guns - with decades old tooling.
  25. Yes I too would like a D prefix blue loco. There were around 60 so treated. I am slightly surprised that only 1 skinhead version has made the initial selection, I’ll hang off ordering for now in case one gets announced, and there’s a couple of other AS things to pay for first…
