  1. Please Sir ..... can I have 2d worth? To my eye the parallel curve is an improvement, aesthetically. But I think either would be a fair representation of a legacy facility. ie based on an old longstanding, traditional, yard. However I rather suspect, that to represent a 21st Century set up, operating as a spoil tip/ ballast stock, then they would likely splay the sidings out, to give ground space and access for dropping, and loading. (I'm thinking of places like Stoke Gifford Tip, where the lines appeared almost temporary). But, of course it's your railway, and perhaps you don't have the necessary space. But it's what makes it thought provoking, and these projects interesting. All the best TONY
  2. Well 2021 seems to have rather drifted into being a bit of a damp squib, modelling wise. Lots of time spent fiddling about, with little real outcome. But there has always been RM web. Just got to work out whether it keeps me motivated, or is a distraction. On the plus side I seem to have sorted the loop headshunt dead-spot; and most of the stock / locos do run around all the layout without trying to escape. Plus 2 more grandsons are keen to "Play Trains" at every opportunity, and they want me to "help" build them a layout. (They are studying my books of GW Station trackplans, for inspiration). So it does look like 2022 will be busier. So whilst in reflective mood, we'll wish you all, all the best for the festive period, and lets all look forward to a better next year. TONY and CHRIS (Mrs MulgaBill).
  3. Andy, I'm sorry I somehow missed your post. The short answer is .... no. The explanation being that I didn't come across any pics to work from. As my headshunt is somewhat shortened, I opted to leave this out. Feeling it would detract from what impression of length I could create. All the best TONY
  4. Robin A while back there was some conversation here re buffer beam rivet detail, on the manors. I did take a pic or 2, but by the time I had uploaded them, the conversation had moved on, and I forgot about it. However whilst looking to make an e-card for Christmas I stumbled across what I had captured. So please have the following - 7828 Odney Manor, with suitable greetings for Christmas and the new year. (And my thanks for the prompt to buy myself a 16xx for Christmas a few weeks back, just got to get it run in< when I'm allowed to drive again ) Merry Xmas TONY
  5. Is Training, the correct verb for running (playing) trains? TONY
  6. I blame them pesky publishers. At the moment, with the bosses assistance, we are putting together an Inventory of my railway books collection.Only a couple of duplicates have come to light, so far. But I am sure there are more. Often these have arisen because reprints have occurred with different covers, and even publishers. Leading to a dilemma, especially when standing at a heritage railway bookstall, which is usually resolved by a purchase for Justin. (Justin Case i haven't already got it, and anyway it'll help the railway). We are up to 200+ and about to move into the train room shelves..... TONY
  7. Seems like a good marketing opportunity,, just think them gin stirers may never have got going if you started the Mid Cornwall Pasty Co, in the 50s. Seasons greetig TONY
  8. That was the wonderful S&D, which was always independant, in reality, if not officially. After all they had their own headcodes, none of that midland or western nonsense. TONY
  9. Rob - your last paragraph does rather ignore the elephant! The end of Western Region steam. TONY
  10. It's obviously where he landed, after being blown off the roof of the creamery, in the storm! TONY
  11. I've been searching for the correct word to use, Robin. Considering I've just smashed the Helstonish transfer record ( £ 75 for a Hymek) If I remember etc. On the other hand I have got it past the authorities, and without waiting 'til she got on a train going in the wrong direction! So, after much thought & consideration, THANKS Robin for the heads up, and an unexpected Xmas box on it's way through Brent. Now I just have to sort out some Hornby Hawkesworths, and some Bachman Colletts to fund a set of Hornby N/C Colletts, whilst they are still around. All the best TONY
  12. I knew spmebody would mention DeLuxe Glue & Glaze, which I've not tried largely as I'm not inclined to speculate the higher price, for no particular job. I have, however, been using Hobbycraft Clear PVA, which was worth a punt at a couple of quid when I saw it. I realise it's not guaranteed to hold plastics very well, but we aren't inclined to poke our glazing out. Have also used it for small amounts of water, to my satisfaction. All the best TONY
  13. Sounds like they have captured the original in a most prototypical manner. No doubt you can, however, improve on the designers efforts TONY.
  14. Thanks Andy, perhaps it was the effect of the, primarily, vertical lines in the photo, distorting my view. Oh how I wish I had 18' for my rendition. Cheers TONY
  15. Looking good Andy, but just a small query. Without access to my Helston references, the signal box just looks a tad too tall. Does it measure up ok? as it may just be a quirk of the pic. All the best TONY
  16. I hope all goes well today, Bill. Unfortunately everything is happening this weekend. There was also a small show in Minehead yesterday, 2 mainline rail-tours which passed home, plus your show. And they all got trumped by the WSR volunteers open day, which wasn't publicised until last week. So sorry I couldn't make it, please let me know of any others, if / when they are known. All the best to you, and Mrs Treggyman, and hopefully there will be some improvement in her health. TONY
  17. Doesn't look like that shocvan worked as they'd hoped! TONY
  18. The semaphor is, I believe, an extra compared to the old layout. Which means they can now run from either side of the platform, to the other, without having to cross the crossing. Thereby reducing the number of crossing operations substantially. With regard the "old" colour light signal, it was an extremely complex animal, with a number of different routes read. A complex bit of "film" can be found on West somerset rail TV on You Tube (Explaining how signalling works, and giving a full breakdown of that signal). TONY
  19. Yes please I've a couple of them tucked away, for no apparent reason. That could fund another pannier! Keep up the good work Rob, I'll think about what you can talk up next. TONY
  20. Up to date pic of that signal. http://cgibin.wsr.org.uk/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?h=Topical%20pictures&t=pics Found on WSR website run by Steve Edge. Also has some more info under News tab. Worth a look if you're interested. Looks like the home straight now, but it's 4-5 months long! TONY
  21. Are you psychic. My current caravan project is a Cambrian Taunton Concrete kit (£3 in Watchet!). And I glanced at the screen, whilst eating, and saw yours staring back at me. Do you want to share how you got that "very workaday" finish? And I don't want to be picky, but didn't the instructions say that version had the straight lever brakehandle. But the old one does look nice, and I won't tell. (Nobody would quote me on accuracy). Good to see you back in action, All the best TONY
  22. Many thanks Trevor. Your diagnosis is in line with what I know, so far. But I haven't seen an actual Doctor yet. (I almost had an appointment for Weds this week, when I phoned to chase it up on Tuesday. But that was the day I was going back to the model railway club but they called back as Stroud outpatients was actually re-opening in November, not October as their system was saying. I will be there! Again thanks, and apologies to Andy for sharing my ailments on his thread. TONY p.s. Yes I did make it to GMRC on Wednesday.
  23. Hi Andy - I am impressed with the kit of parts for the signal box. Would I be right in thinking you have drawn it, and Jacub has laser cut it? If so would you mind if I asked him to do me a set? I'm not sure that my eyes are up do the detail, at the moment. But at least my inability to cut 2 pieces of card the same, has an explanation. But I shan't know the solution until a clinic appointment next month. Then it depends how long the queue is for treatment, I suspect. Looking forward to seeing some of your work, to date, landing on some baseboards. All the best TONY
  24. Don't know why, but I was struck by the 1 (white) pic, but on reading your process, I began to think this could be hard work. But I have a plan. At a suitable opportunity I will entreat Mrs MB to make some rectangular cakes, or perhaps shortcake. With just a little luck the rejects may be just the right shape, and texture. Perhaps even colour. Of course it is just possible there are no rejects, a definite win / win! Off to get a tin helmit, just in case.... TONY
