  1. Good evening everyone. Today I have been making a low relief quarry type building to go with the Bachmann loading tower I have. Just some MDF cut to shape and different types of card stuck in the appropriate places. It is not finished as I need to make a conveyor to go from the low relief building across to the loading tower plus some extra weathering and maybe some more heath and safety signs. Here are a few photos below with a Colas Rail 66 preparing a train at the Tarmac site.. On its way and passing over the river. Pulling up in the yard job done. Me messing around just before finishing in the garage for the night!
  2. Hello Jim did you take 70802 from Carnforth to Crewe yesterday? I am hoping to see some Colas engineers trains tomorrow morning in the Warrington area.
  3. Good evening everyone. A little more landscape done on the river this evening. Not far off being ready to add Woodland Scenics realistic water but with the colder weather coming I might delay that until spring. I have also added a little bit of extra detail to the retaining wall along the station to give it a bit more depth. Here is a photo of the tunnel mouth. Thanks for looking and still following!
  4. Good to see some Colas action coming up in the north west. I will try and see the Sunday morning trains. Thanks for the information Jim.
  5. Looks good Jack and I will be following the progress of this. The theme sounds great, somewhere in the north west with a station and a quarry. I am very interested to see how the quarry develops. Get some Caterpillar 1/87 or 1/76 scale models as they look quite good. I have a decent collection of these.
  6. I have started to make a backscene from some spare wood where the town center shops and buildings will be situated. I have started to glue on the retaining wall made from card to the wood. I need to do the footpath/road surface too. Here are some photos of it so far with some container wagons below. I will add more detail to the retaining wall in due course.
  7. With the weather being so bad this week and Autumn and Winter approaching I am anticipating that there will be less opportunity for photography so I am hoping to crack on with the model railway. I have decided to make a new bridge for the corner of the layout which will incorporate a short tunnel to break up the track. This will replace the other road bridge and Ikea building I made for this area. The new bridge and tunnel is in the background. Typical that I have ran out of red brick building sheets. I have also done some scenic work on the other side of the river. A DRS 37 hauled special is passing over what will be a girder bridge.
  8. I am not sure if they have a 08 shunter anymore at Arpley. You may get a few class 66 locos stabled with it being bank holiday as they usually run the locomotive light to Arpley after they have hauled the Halewood car trains or the Ditton foundry lane train. I have also seen the odd MPV in the yard, an odd 90 or 67. Watch out at Arpley junction and indeed the Warrington low level line for coal trains starting to run to Fiddlers Ferry power station again.
  9. Today a Colas Rail class 70 finally dropped onto the 6J37 log train from Carlisle yard to Chirk. Here are a selection of photos from Euxton Balshaw Lane station were it was held at a red signal for a period of time which allowed me to go just down the line to Balshaw Lane Junction were it continued its journey, coming off the slow line and onto the fast.
  10. A very rare treat today was a pair of Colas Rail class 56 Grids on the 6M32 Lindsey to Preston loaded tanks with 56096 and 56105 providing the power! Photo taken at Lostock Hall station in the Preston area.
  11. Thanks for the post. I think I have found a suitable replacement motor on the internet so I will order it and fit it, hopefully it will fix it.
  12. Hello everyone. I am hoping someone could please me help fix my sons TTS sound Flying Scotsman as the fault I posted above has manifested into something greater. The loco has now stopped driving although every sound function still operates. It may move slightly every now and again but seems to trip the controller as if there is a short and the controller resets itself. When a speed is set on the controller the sound changes as though it is ready to set off but the loco does not move 90% of the time and the sound does not change as though the decoder has not sensed that the motor is moving. I am suspecting the motor at fault. Occasionally I get a short showing on the controller which then goes when the loco is lifted off the track. I have tried to remove the TTS sound decoder and fit a blanking plug so the loco is in theory then a analogue loco but I just get a short on the controller at all times. Here are a few photos of the wiring of TTS sound decoder and motor if anyone can help fix this it would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance Peter
  13. A couple of recent class 60 photos. Colas Rail 60095 passes over The River Eden just north of Carlisle station with the 6S36 Dalston to Grangemouth empty bogie tanks. Colas Rail 60026 heads towards Euxton Balshaw Lane station in Chorley, Lancashire with the 6J37 Carlisle to Chirk log train.
  14. Great video too Jim. In some of your photos which station are you at with the 70 with the arch bridge in the background please?
  15. Here are a couple of my favorite class 70 photos that I have taken so far this year. 70007 approaches Acton Bridge station in Cheshire 70008 at Boars Head, Standish in Wigan. 70020 at Balshaw Lane junction in Euxton, Chorley in Lancashire. 70008 approaches Euxton Balshaw Lane station, Chorley Lancashire 70020 at Euxton Balshaw Lane station 70020 puts on the power as it blasts through Winsford station in Cheshire My first Colas Rail 70 for well over a year. 70805 at Bescot Stadium station. 70011 passes by Balshaw Lane station at Euxton
  16. Thanks for the replies and advice Jack and Anthony. I have removed all the track pins tonight. Not sure whether to cut the boards away so I can access all areas or do a 3ft shelf layout around 3 sides of the garage. But is it possible to do a 3ft roundy roundy? I have an issue with picking up locos and turning them around by hand. I could uncouple them and run around the train but then I need two ugly couplers either end instead of nice detail packs on on end of the locomotive.
  17. Thanks Jack. Unfortunately I am in limbo with the layout at the moment due to distorted track and some hard to reach places. I don't know whether to start again completely with plywood and a 2 1/2 to 3 ft shelf or keep what I have got, un pin the track and relay then cut into the baseboards more to get hard to reach places.
  18. Great set of photos Jim. I am a bit gutted I missed them as I thought they were moving at night but I read they had an earlier container path from the docks but at that point it was too late, you were at Winwick Junction by then.
  19. Hello everyone here is a link to a poor quality video I did on my camera as it was way too dark for photographs of a loco at a fair speed. Its not often we get to see Colas Rail class 70's in the North-West so It was worth the short evening trip out to Euxton Balshaw Lane station. Many thanks to everyone for the info and thank you Jim for your info and discreet tone of the horn as you passed! What goes up must come down, hopefully back down the WCML and in daylight hours hopefully over the bank holiday but probably not. https://www.flickr.com/photos/143455329@N02/with/34267254066/
  20. Many thanks for the info everyone. Pity it's not a bit earlier in the evening but I will probably go to see it in the Euxton area.
  21. Many thanks for the info Jim. Is there any booked stops along the way that you know of please?
  22. Hello Jim do you have any further info on the Class 70 move from Bescott to Carlisle please? I would really like to see it if possible.
