  1. And I have once again gone through this thread. It was about November last year that I last went through it. It's looking great! This is tempting me to do my own EM or P4 layout however I only have 7x5m to work with so I doubt I can fit as much in as you. I also have very limited (understatement) skills with TEMPLOT and it's turning out to be a pain in the arse! Keep up the good work and I look forward to an update.
  2. Is there anywhere I could get a full trackplan? The Ordnance Survey isn't very good, I'm going to take it and try and fix it up to make it a trackplan. Thanks for the info though
  3. Any progress updates? I'm looking to build Aviemore in 3mm/ft (14.2mm gauge) and seeing photos off this and the OO scale version look very good. Also does anyone have photos of Aviemore from the 1950s to the 1960s? I'm going off the trackplan posted on the previous page.
  4. yes I also need a Sound 08 - but in BR Green not blue! I am also saving up to get DCC Sound for my Hornby L1 and the Bachmann 128
  5. Also, RE the crane In around 2000? or so, Hornby did a red version of their current crane. Looking at the photo on page 32, it looks very similar to the Hornby model. The Hornby model, modified and superdetailed (of course) would quite possibly do the trick, and would certainly be an interesting piece of rolling stock to do! The Doctor (peter)
  6. Thanks for that picture Polly! Now to figure out where to put the Daleks on Dunoon. I am going to have a TARDIS, probably on the station platform or thereabouts, but the Daleks boarding a bus would be hilarious! Probably have the 6th Doctor, got to stand out!
  7. Looks amazing! Surprise surprise. A month of RMWEB and Bodgit has already got 2 new layouts! Now, if only I was able to move that quickly with Dunoon..... Keep up the good work! And George - The buildings look amazing great work! The Doctor (peter)
  8. Just had another catch up, it looks better every time you post more pics! Sadly Dunoon isnt coming along as quickly as your layout, and I am yet to post more photos on the thread, and methinks that I have been spending too much time modifying rolling stock - i have done the following - Removed the valancing from a Hornby A4 Repainted a Hornby A4 Made a static Dapol 4MT Built 5 Victorian Railways wagons for a friend Modified and detailed (mostly) an old Bachmann LMS coach which is becoming a BR Maroon coach Putting a lay-by on the Hornby twin-tender Bittern etc Work on the layout - Relaying some track You are getting way more actual work done than me! Good job and keep it up Peter
  9. Hi Neil Just gone through the thread. Great job, it looks amazing. Keep up the good work! Peter
  10. I have had the same problem with PVA on Dunoon. I am leaving it in place however, as it will be covered by weathering when i get around to ballasting. An alternative is just to keep it as is, as I find it actually dulls the look of the rails and makes it look a lot better than the shiny rails. Undoubtedly you will at some stage be/need to weather the rails, as would be appropriate for a mid 60s siding, so that will cover it up later. Hope this helps Peter EDIT - For the top of the rails, I just used 240 grit sandpaper, which cleaned it off in a couple of passes, leaving the rail tops as shiny as brand new track.
  11. Hi Quentin, Looks great! I may even end up doing one of these (inglenook's) when Dunoon is finished, so I can practice hand-laying track - while it is nice and easy to use Peco code 75 Finescale track, it isn't quite as good as the handlaid stuff! Do you have a specific period for the layout, or is there no specific period. Also, I must ask, what is a large Pacific such as Mallard doing on what is seemingly a small branchline? As always Rule 1 applies - it is your layout and you can run whatever the heck you want to - but I do think it looks slightly out of place. Keep up the good work! Peter
  12. Hi Andy, Looking good! Would the Buckingham Branch be the same one that is spoken about in The Encyclopedia of Model Railways? I have got the book from my late grandfather, and the image of the branch in this thread looks very similar, however in my book it is a lot more crude in terms of scenery, there is no ballast and the track is very bulky from the photos in TEMR. Also, IIRC you asked about Kadee couplers. I use them, with all my stock, and as each new item gets purchased for Dunoon, a new set of KD couplers is purchased as well. I fit my loco's with number 19's, and other stock with number 18's. Also, have you had a look at the Hornby Hawksworth coaches? They look great and would go nicely on this GWR line. The layout looks great, but hang on a minute... WOT!!! NO BR STUFF? Haha Seriously though, it looks AMAZING!!! and I can't wait to see more of it in the future. Peter 'If it ain't in BR Blue, early green or black, it ain't a loco'
  13. I have absolutely no idea what plasticard is, but here down under we have A4 textured sheets of styrene (plastic) for $2 or 1 pound a sheet.very flexible and easy to work with, and just requires weathering Peter
  14. Hi Duncan, Looking great! Just an idea for the military area, maybe an Airfix ME109 or a Junkers 88 that has been shot down and is being dissasembled, with various damaged parts, and maybe a shot down Spitfire that is being repaired. While the Airfix kits are 1:72, I have found they are good matches for OO. Even though it isnt my era/region, I can't wait to see some baseboards constructed and some track down. Personally I think that handlaid track looks a lot better than Peco, with over 18 metres of track to lay on Dunoon, 2 3 way turnouts, 2 double slips and a whole ton more of standard points I just do not have the time, especially as modeling time per week comes to half saturday half sunday and an hour each evening. Therefore I am using Peco code 75 all the way through the layout. So far in 3 weeks I have gone from a soft copy track plan to track down and wiring started. I think that it is great that you are scratchbuilding the buildings, however I would reccomend not trying to go to far, start with smaller items such as lineside huts or coal staithes, as it is very easy to get carried away. Look forward to seeing more progress. Peter
  15. Congratulations on getting it into the magazine! Will have to try and get one if it makes its way down to the bottom of Down Under!!! Seriously though, looking great, and its good to know that I am not one of the only 2 teen modelers using this site!!! I think that given it is an Inglenook, considering Kadee's and delayed uncoupling would be something to consider - I am going to use it for my layout Dunoon and it also enables a lot closer coupling - KD #18's couple my Hornby Mk1's so close to each other that it is hard to see the gap between the gangways when it is on a straight! Peter
  16. Hi Clive, Looking great! Have to disagree on your choice of era/coaching stock. crimson and cream with early emblem looks SOOOO much better than that crest and maroon rubbish. Keep up the good work! Peter (Quite probably RMweb's youngest member)
  17. Hi, Looking great! I think I can recall something about you scratchbuilding a CL24 earlier in the thread? If so, it would be nice to see some photos as I am currently attempting the same thing, along with an eventual superdetail/repaint of a Lima CL55. I hope to also scratchbuild other rare items such as the CL05,CL01 and possibly a CL13, however sadly these will not go on my layout, they will either be sold or given as birthday/christmas presents to a friend of mine. If the CL24 goes well, I may well go on and do a CL20 or a CL23. Anyway, enough about me. I look forward to seeing more updates in the future. Peter
  18. Also, I apologise if this is off topic, but would a Hornby RR Flying Scotsman tender be to the same design? Because I know someone who has one surplus to requirements. Regards, Peter
  19. Hi, I have no idea how I missed this thread!!! I have been looking for info on detailing and repainting/numbering Hornby RR A4's for weeks now! Want to renumber/paint my 4469 Gadwelll (TTS Sound fitted) to 60012 Commonwealth of Australia in BR Express Blue. A couple of questions - Do you know if 60012 had a corridor tender or not, if yes then where can I source one? Do I need decals for the cabside numbers or do I use the 2 60012 etched plates that I got with the nameplates from Modelmaster? Did 60012 (or any other A4) keep the side valances into the mid to late 1950s? Any suggestions/tips much appreciated Peter **EDIT - And I apologise to Rob for stealing the 100th post on this thread Looks great though.
  20. Hi Gwiwer, I was given this thread by Peter (From Waverley Shed to Galashiels). It looks great, but I do not have the time to go through the whole thread atm. I will try and go through at one stage or another, so don't be surprised if a couple of hundred likes etc come your way this week!! Regards, Peter (Dunoon)
  21. Hi, I have seen something which looks a LOT like this at Grosmont model train shop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Is this a coincidence, or is that where this ended up? Sorry if this has already been noted, however I do not have enough time to go through all of this as I am currently in English. Regards, Peter
  22. Hi John, Looking great! I must admit I do not envy you in having to lay all that track On a more serious note, it does look amazing! I can't wait to see it progress further! Regards, Peter
  23. Nah its fine! I wouldnt be surprised at that - whenever I go into a model train show it seems as though there is an unwritten rule that people under the age of 40 are not allowed in! In regards to your previous posts, no I haven't seen Gwythers layout yet, what is it called? Regards, Peter
  24. Hi David, The layout looks absolutely amazing! Congratulations! I have always wanted to have a small layout like that, however me restricting myself to one scale - OO, means I cant do a lot. Peter
