  1. How many races does the world need? The UK certainly does not need 2. The South of England doesn't need 2... Novelty events on Regent Street are fine, but racing around the docklands isn't going to be a patch on somewhere like Portugal.
  2. Anywhere really, Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. Though I doubt we'll be harvesting it from Alpha Centauri.
  3. They'll be charged in both ways, but most will come from the OLE.
  4. I don't think it means anything more than "do something here". You'd have to be directly involved for that to mean anything more. It's in about the right place with regard to the track to be an OLE structure, but it could be one of about a million other things too.
  5. The Minehead line isn't really a traditional GWR branch. It's pretty much a single track main line, like Newquay, Kingswear or the SDJR. Plus modern heritage railways are really nothing whatsoever like traditional branch lines.
  6. It depends on whether you might ever actually use such things, but if you ever run any mk3 or even 800 sized carriages they'll be bigger. And I believe the GWR did make some mk3 length carriages. Though if you stick to the steam & transition era then not using vehicles that big isn't especially limiting.
  7. The point does. If someone who finishes 11th or lower gets the fastest lap, no one gets the point. So those kinds of moves are all about keeping the point from going to a rival, rather than actually getting it themselves.
  8. I'm not sure they're splitting the Mercedes; Max is beating them both more often than not. Last year every week seemed to be HAM - BOT - VER, though this year it's more likely to be VER - HAM - ???, With 3rd being much more variable than it was. Neither Perez nor Bottas seem to be close enough often enough to their lead drivers to be making a big impact on race strategy etc. Maybe the statistics don't bear that out but that's my perception!
  9. He is what he is at this stage. I wonder if he's been ground down by constantly losing to Lewis. I don't think Lewis has previously dominated a team mate quite as comprehensively as he has with Bottas, and that's bound to have an impact after 5 years of it. Or maybe it's just that the other teams have reeled Mercedes in enough that he's being exposed as just not good enough often enough to stick with Lewis - which is not really a slight, very few could (and it'll be interesting to see how next year goes, especially if Russell continues to be so good at qualifying; will he consistently beat Lewis on Saturday?)
  10. I'm not an expert on these things, but what alternative method of getting the carriages out of the tunnel are available? Generally you have to pull a blockage out of a tube one way or the other, and a loco with lots of tractive effort and wheel slip control available seems like quite a good tool to use.
  11. It's not really looking great for Lewis now, especially if, as predicted, Brazil turns out to be a good place to drive a Red Bull. Though saying that, it'll only take one DNF from Max and it'll be wide open again, so chances are it'll go down to the last race in some form.

  13. Neston Green is more Greenly, though Neston being near Liverpool adds a slight FH connection.
  14. Neston Green sounds like a place.
  15. Plenty of time to sit and stare at the road signs if you were trying to use the A40. "Eynsham" becomes familiar very quickly when you're looking at the same roundabout for 15 minutes.
  16. According to Wikipedia, the road where FH was born is (77) Copperas Hill, which sounds like it could be a settlement of some sort. I like Wenlock Bassett as a WJBL reference, but I can imagine an urban station called Copperas Hill. If I ever build a layout I might even use it myself.
  17. I'm not sure I'd say I'm "good at names", I only came up with "Circus"... Though for a layout like this which looks like something from the pen of CJF, I'd be looking to him for inspiration. Aside from that though, Neston is good though. Neston (Derngate) for the main station, and go all in on the WJBL thing for the other station and portmanteau his name - Wenlowke Bassett or something...
  18. @Harlequin that does look good. It looks like it's a gnats whisker from having a second platform at the bottom station. I suppose it's questionable how much of an improvement that would be as it would probably further reduce the not exactly extensive freight capability. But I'd be tempted to go all in with passenger operation in that case anyway.
  19. I wonder how much space that would need in OO. Will have to have a go in anyrail...
  20. WRT @Harlequin's turntable end, could you lose the points and just have two exits from the table to complete the run round? Bembridge/ Ramsgate Harbour/ any number of NG railway style... Would handle another carriage that way, I think.
  21. That's only ever going to go one way isn't it? The question isn't about what looks more realistic because clearly that's EM. It's about what compromises you can make in the layout of your choice. For example if you need to use train set curves (even hidden ones) to run the trains you want to run then chances are EM isn't for you. There's no right or wrong, only a different set of compromises to live with and you have to pick your poison.
  22. Low mileage might be more of a problem, if it's been broken so much as to prevent a high mileage being achieved...

    Peak 45015

That sounds like a big risk, but if 015s main gen is salvageable more cheaply than 132s then it's got to be worth a proper look. It was heartbreaking when I heard that the generator had gone again. Almost any other component would have been less upsetting, but the same thing that broke the first time... Roger should name that loco "Perseverance". He got a lot of undeserved stick from various quarters when we were up the headshunt at Ropley making very little outwardly visible progress, but he doesn't seem to know how to give up. And I find that an incredibly admirable quality.
