  1. CK, have you a layout to run the Planet on? I hear that Devonport Dockyard had a fleet of them from the mid 1950s onwards, maybe that's an idea. There's a book about the system written by a chap with a foreign sounding name who seemed to know what he was talking about, that might help.
  2. To add to Phil's comments in #76 about Naval Dockyards. Devonport Dockyard has rail tracks set into the main road through the site, which are in active use in connection with submarine refits. The two Clayton industrial diesels haul various specialist wagons across the system. Admittedly not public, but quite heavily trafficed roads.
  3. To answer the questions on planned use, SRUG say: "The vision for the site is to provide passenger facilities such as toilets, waiting room and a cafe, along with other community uses, and some commercial letting space to help with overall viability."
  4. I have seen on another forum that Saltash Town Council announced last night that they have reached agreement to acquire the station building. Good news!!
  5. Some suggestions... The High Moorland Visitor Centre (I think thats its name) in Princetown might have something. I appreciate you are not well placed to visit! Also have a look at the old OS on NLS or Oldmaps where layouts can be seen. Twelveheads Press have published some books on life on the moor with images, but I don't know if the quarries feature. Cheers Paul B
  6. Sorry Rich, the Herald website is one of the worst of it's type. However there is usually a 'skip' option to avoid the survey.
  7. From the Plymouth Herald website: http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/watch-view-from-cab-as-storm-batters-train/story-30109372-detail/story.html
  8. At noon today I observed a trailer with the upper part of the footbridge parked up in the A38 westbound layby on the Devon side of the Tamar Bridge.. Anyone know where it's headed? Seemed odd that it was on this side of the road!
  9. Garry, you are right about the poles. At first glance I thought the first wagon had a pantograph!!
  10. Have a look at the next post...where Garry gave the answer!
  11. Can your source advise who did the painting? The owner or the council?
  12. Saltash Town Council has been pondering a Compulsory Purchase, and out of the blue the building has been repainted. I cannot advise what has caused this to happen.
  13. Brian, have a look on Google Earth (other satellite image sites are available) to see the layout.
  14. Oh Brian, you've gone native..."check" instead of cheque!!!!
  15. Of course, the 'new' triangle at Norton Fitzwarren, and now you mention it (for which many thanks!) do I recall that others use it to turn stock?
  16. Brianusa asked where the nearest turning facility is if Laira and St Blazey were not available. I would offer Minehead (WSR) and Westbury. Any other suggestions?
  17. You are very kind! pb_devon Aka the Saltash 'expert'
  18. Great British Railway Journeys TV Programme Royal Albert Bridge is to appear in the current series on Friday 15th January screening at 1830 on BBC2. Any positive feedback about the "expert" interviewed can be posted here; anything negative can go to the programme makers telling them to chose better in future! Enjoy (I Hope!) pb_devon see also posting http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/101399-kernow-today/?view=findpost&p=1967351
  19. Well, yesterday actually. Michael Portillo is out & about in Cornwall filming for a new Great British Railway Journeys. Yesterday at Saltash, where some know-it-all was pontificating about the bridge. Transmission is said to be end of January, I was told (woops, given away the ID of the smart a***e!), so there is plenty of time for you to have forgotten and I can slink away unseen.
