I travelled from Stowmarket to Bury St Edmunds the other day and noticed that Anglia turquoise was evident at both Elmswell and Thurston.

In anticipation of a house move I've been doing a bit of de-cluttering some of which involves going through some old model railway magazines to decide which articles I want to keep and I've just found the November 2013 edition of Model Rail that features Glen Roy by a chap called Andy Peters. Talk about a blast from the past!

Thanks for your reply. I did wonder if it could be something to do with the fact that originally it was only the brake coaches that were fitted with brakes. My initial thinking was around cooling in that spoked wheels would cool quicker if the brakes overheated but I then thought with the speeds involved and the materials that the brakes were made of back then would they really get that hot? Your explanation seems far more plausible.

I've just noticed that the brake coaches have spoked wheels whilst other coaches have solid wheels, does anyone know the reason for this? Thanks.

Wow, with this and the Hornby B17 is turning into quite a year for Great Eastern fans.

If that picture had been posted later on this year I would imagine there would be quite a bit of discussion around if that Pacer was the Realtrack or EFE version!

I have a copy of the October 2018 edition of Railway Modeller which features an article by Chris Ford where he explains how he went about creating this layout. Coincidentally the same issue features Euxton Junction as Railway of the Month which is also in the latest edition of BRM.

I know what you mean, it's about time we had a DCC function to pop up a driver facing the direction of travel and not just to change the lights. Maybe one day.

Yes you do need to trim the legs to get passengers to fit properly and if you intend to fit a driver that involves even more drastic surgery! There was an article in the Model Rail magazine earlier this year that explained how to dismantle the model in order to fit passengers and removal of cab interior to fit the driver and the amount of surgery required.

Please could someone clarify my understanding of the issue with the interior lighting of the 122 & 121. As I understand it if you fit a Zimo decoder to a 122 the interior lights won't work without a wiring modification however the lights will work without any modification if you use a Loksound V5 decoder. Is this correct? Looking at the info that Norman has posted it seems that with the 121 the lights will work without any modification when using a Zimo decoder. So, does this now mean a wiring modification will be necessary for a Loksound V5? Thanks in advance of someone clearing this up.

Assuming it's refering to the same thing, the railcar.co.uk website mentions that these plates were a secondary door locking mechanism fitted to units that remained in passenger use in the 2000's. No but Hornby produced 4 different versions in Anglia livery. Heljan also produced 47714 many years before Bachmann and I think they also released an 86 in Anglia livery as part of the original run.

Could well have been Hurst, I think I've a spare one knocking about somewhere I'll see if I can find it to check. Thanks for the info about the windows, I'd never noticed that before. I've just dug out my Hornby coaches and it's so obvious now!

Hornby produced some Anglia livered MK2's a number of years ago, I have enough for 2 full rakes. I have pre ordered a couple of Bachmann dbso's so it will be interesting to see how they look alongside the Hornby ones, I suspect it will really make them show their age. When I originally bought the Hornby coaches I also converted a couple of Airfix Mk2 brakes to dbso's as, at the time, you could buy a whitemetal dbso cab - can't remember the manufacturer. They looked OK to me at the time, it was my first attempt at this sort of thing, but they will no doubt look rather primitive compared to the Bachmann models.

I don't know about the 05 but on the 03 I'm pretty sure the top headlight, together with the lower centre lights, are dummy's. I think it's only the lower outer lights at each end that actually work.
