  1. They Look fantastic, managed to nab my local model shop's (Alton, Hants) last 4 (one of each code) green wagons - no white ones! The shop owner was impressed with these he was saying as its a very good quality model and at a very good price!
  2. Ive used one of DCC concepts packs, they seem to work well.
  3. Really like the different liveries on these 3. Think they add a nice difference in colour to the network. I really like the class 66's and would love to own them but it comes down to price for me and also the nagging thought - how long are these liveries going to be retained? the rainbow one has been around for a good few years now i believe so just concerned it will be changed fairly soon after arrival - could be wrong! The other thing for me is I'm looking forward to the class 68's from Dapol (quite like my DRS's) of which I think I'd rather spend the money on! The prototype looked really got at Warley! Thanks Ali
  4. Evening All, Merry Christmas! Hope you have have a good one! Firstly the KWA, its worked a treat paring those ridges off! Think the next stage is priming/painting once a bit more confident with the airbrush! PFA, sprayed up one of the C=Rail container kits in halfords red oxide as suggested by Mick, seems to have come out quite well and close the to required colour, think some weathering is required to get it spot on! Not done anymore to the first painted PFA, need to add the white, sections on the ladder/brake lever and tops of the container loops. The shipping boxes from Hattons make great spray booths! I've been painted up all the wheels ready for the remaining 6 wagons once i get cracking on them and ordered the Oleo buffers from Wizard Models! Many thanks Ali
  5. Hi All, Its been a little while again! DOH! Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Warley and seeing Mick's work. Indulged in a few purchases (who doesn't go there and spend money?) treated myself to Bachmann's 37405 (parents christmas present for me), the new ZDA wagon, some humbrol thinners and this nice little light! Firstly I've treated myself to an airbrush & compressor, went for the Fox hunter AS186 kit. Very impressed with how quiet it is. Had a go at airbrushing already, nothing fancy just trying out some basic techniques. Hope to upgrade to an Neo for Iwata CN airbrush in the future once I've perfected thinning and technique. Thanks to Phil, I've progressed a little with my KWA with fitting the buffers, checker plate etching and fitted the M3 studding to the under side to mount the bogies. Its riding a little high at the moment so might par away the 2 little ridges either side of the studs. Cheers Ali
  6. haha! funnily enough i've just bough the same one and planning on changing the airbrush to one very similar!
  7. It was good to meet you Mick and have a chat. Your work looks fantastic up close! Cheers Ali
  8. Nice work there Phil! cheers for the instructions, looking forward to trying to make mine anywhere near the standard of yours! Cheers Ali
  9. Right, apologies left it too long again! Progress has been slow, although have managed to paint the PFA black, anyone know how to remove paint so I can repaint it when I buy an airbrush? My brush work is shocking to say the least (don't think the photos will show how bad)! Thinking of the AS186 kit which seems to have good reviews for the price! Planning on going to the Warley show so will see if there are any offers on. On a side note, I'd ordered a load of 10.5mm disc wheels from Alan Gibson so have started painting them in Rail Match sleeper grime. KWA, dug out my KWA as seeing Phil Mc's post and cleaned up all the misc parts for priming. Another prime candidate for an airbrush painting! For the body I'm thinking of fitting an M3 tread for the bogies to pivot on as really don't like the screw method, can see it failing over time. just need to nab the pillar drill at work one evening! Thanks Ali
  10. Love the work there Phil, particularly like the KWA, its given me the encouragement to dig mine out and continue with it. just need to find the instructions and template! Cheers Ali
  11. Lovely work there Nick, looking forward to watching that twin jib crane take shape! As well as any additional seasonal wagon sets that are going about the network at the moment! Cheers Ali
  12. Evening All, Finally at the painting stage with the first PFA now, started with the yellow axle box covers, why is it yellow is so hard to get even when brush painting! Or am i just naff at painting! Ive been storing it in my parents airing cupboard to try and help the paint harden. Plan is to get the axle box covers painted, masked once happy then paint the wagon black. Then paint any white parts - probably the wrong way round but based on a test spur I pained black then white should be ok. to say I'm chomping at the bit to paint the wagon black is and understatement! Next: Had a go at weathering a MFA after seeing Nick's (RS4) post weathering his stock. Painted the inside in Railmatch dark rust, gave it a rub once dry with a scouring pad to try to de-stress the paint. I used some medium grey weathering powder to add the ballast dust look. On the outside of the wagon I had a go dry brushing Railmatch's frame dirt, its certainly toned down bright black paint a bit. A few more coats possibly??? On the salmon/Osprey front: added some of the details to one of the wagons to put both the 2 on the go ones to the same level. Started modifying/re-working the end frame as suggested by Mick but nothing worth showing at present. Hopefully won't leave it so long next time before an update! Thanks Ali
  13. Very nice work there! Very much like the yard already and its not even fully laid!
  14. Evening All, Firstly Sorry Jack! At the stage of priming/painting the first one now after a productive afternoon off work! Just need to re-glue one of the break levers and I'm away!!! The container frame has now been fixed down, buffers fitted, coupling hooks also fitted - pre-primed these prior to fitting to test adhesion. Very happy with the result so far! For the container does anyone know what colour to paint the containers? I was thinking BR Bauxite but after looking at a test piece I painted its a bit too dark! think the first one will be a full height box for now. Thanks Ali
  15. Hi, Another quick update but photos included this time! Had ordered a pack of non-sprung long shank buffers from Wizard Models as based on the ones Mick's post shows and have to say they really make the model pop! just need to polish up the buffer beams with wet and dry and think I'm there ready to prime one! Thanks Ali
  16. Thanks Mick, will have a go when i next sit down to have a go at these. Small update, the Wizard Models buffers arrived during the week and found some time this afternoon between RWC matches to have a go, found them a bit fiddly tbh as had bought the sprung ones! probably didn't help that my 0.5mm drill bit is probably on the blunt side! once got a new drill bit will have ago but as they are a bit of a pain might just stick to some non-srung ones for simplicity! thanks Ali
  17. Cracking work there! looking good, will be watching this progress with great interest! cheers Ali
  18. Thanks Mick, Any tips on how to do the curved tops of the end? had a go really didn't like the end result! Thanks Ali
  19. Sorry, non of late mainly due to work and the rugby world cup!! hoping to get hold of some wizard model oleo buffers to test on a PFA to try and get one painted up. thanks Ali
  20. Hi Lewis, Spot on with the oiling! Dug it out, took the body off, oiled where the instruction said and a few other logical (to me anyway) points, ran it back and forth on a small section of the layout that was clear once hooked up to a decoder last night and it started easing the noise. Applied a few more times before today managing to find some spare set track to commandered the dining room table and had it running in both directions for at least 30min! runs like a dream now! Many thanks Ali
  21. Really nice work there! this is going to be one hell of a layout!
  22. Hi Lewis, Thanks for the tip, certainly cheaper than sending it off! Now to dig it out! Regards Ali
  23. Didn't realise there was a 3D printed it out there, will keep an eye out for your handy work as have a few EWS/Shenker 66's on the books! Thanks Ali
  24. Hi Lewis, Very nice work and information again! I have 60 014 in grey with the EWS large sticker. Really must get this out and get it repaired, think its the worm gear as its fine in one direction but noisy as in the other. Know any good repair places to get this done? after that a case of DCC chipping it! Cheers Ali
