I'll have to try that method....last time I went for plastic square section and ended up getting very sticky although part of the issue was that I was rushing, trying to reach a monthly modelling deadline. I believe i still have the part built model here somewhere, will have to dig it out as all it needed was glazing and the tile strips adding.

Essentially you have onboard power from a battery, similar to R/C cars, and control the train in the same way instead of requiring power through the rails. As I have no other O gauge equipment besides the Mallard, there is no harm in experimenting as I see it.

I'm curious as to what windows you used..... I struggled to find anything suitable when I attempted to build one of these depots a couple of years back.

I may crack on with it over the winter.....nobody seemed interested in it when I offered it for sale so I'm going to look into motor/gearbox options and possibly even consider dead railing it.

I kind of understand where you're coming from, despite being a newcomer to the US scene.... I think this is one of the reasons I generally prefer shortlines, not only are they easier to model, (repaints notwithstanding,) but they provide more variety than the class 1 railroads. i honestly cannot tell the difference in most of these locos just from a run by on the camera

I've ordered some cakeboxes, I have bases, I just need to cobble together a couple of entries! I've had ideas for a long time, (since the Digitrains day actually,) but procrastination and other general life things have gotten in the way.

Looking at that, maybe S is above the price i want to pay lol, maybe 0 would be a better bet, but the crudeness of 3 rail items puts me off. I want to dabble in something bigger than HO as a side project, as much as I love it, I just like the physical presence of the larger scales

Thanks for that link, the price for the complete 44 tonner kit doesn't seem too far out, (shipping and customs charges aside,) I like that it comes from Asheville too, considering I would be using it to replicate a real loco on a shortline not far away from there.

I'd have to say and S3 would be great, although an SW1500 or even 44 tonner would suit me for a shunting layout.

I hope this gets a NS version at some point, now I have a little more income, I'd like to splash out, unless an S scale loco can be procured for a reasonable price

Oh wow, you must really like doing these kits. I still have mine, I think it's going to end up on ebay soon though as I'm starting a new job and definitely will not have spare time to build it.

The extension is coming along very nicely, re: the 04 tram, everything I have suggests, (although doesn't implicitly state,) that the 04 were in black during their time on the line, but as one of my aims is to run the last ever train, which was 3 16T mineral wagons and a southern brakevan, ( I have a model of this made from the Cambrian kit,) getting the right colour for the time is very important to me. It looks like green may be the correct way to go after all.

Crewe is more reasonable by train at just £38.50 return, but being a sunday and Lincoln being a backwater really, I wouldn't arrive at Crewe until 4pm!

Hmmm, bit torn on this, one the one hand, the exhibition takes place on my birthday this year, but on the other, TVNAM was unique in that it catered to my North American leanings, from what I can see, there's only one US layout this year which I'm sorry to say is just too far for me to consider travelling for. I guess now I am on the lookout for a TVNAM alternative, if such a thing exists here in England.

My struggle is finding a decent NS based webcam without subscription, (I have very limited funds as it is until I get back in work,) but the only options seems to be the likes of Horseshoe curve where you cannot easily identify loco numbers, let alone car numbers, which is something I am interested in. CSX gets lots of coverage in comparison.

Cannot offer any suggestions for the backscene, but I do love your idea and execution of that shelf layout.
