From what I understand reading between the lines, ATW were trying to run a service with one hand tied behind their backs. I don't suppose it helped that gubbermint withdrew the finances for the Valleys and west of Cardiff electrification.

Its still reasonably easy to get hold of the real stuff, but environmentally friendly "solder" is the work of the devil!

Lanarkshire Models has just packaged some very nice 145 C solder wire.

Not on the website yet but have been using it and found it lovely to work with, and yes it does have a wee bit lead in it...

      Jack374

So you’ve found that out then! I bought some a few years ago and a few weeks later I’d bought some lead-based stuff too. Some stalls at shows sell it, have a look round when you’re at one.

London Inverness train through Perth at around 6pm yesterday had indeed lost its virginity and had been "put upon" by some guy with initials LNER. Same blushing red livery however.

Mertons was a "sub-Portillo" travalogue, whilst Hislop did a "reasonable" history of the Beeching era.

I was impressed by Merton's coverage of the disposal facilties at Drigg. Not seen anything that thorough from other journos.

  14. Friday before Christmas and TOCs are playing their annual game of how many people can we fit in a unit. TPE are winning, closely followed by Virgin. And I’ve got the best seats, and by a seat, I mean a vestibule end.

Friday before Christmas is always especially bad, Virgin had only called off todays strike yesterday but some services are still cancelled and many booked with TPE because at the time, they couldn’t with VT.

I thought it said, “The big wheels, keep turning, keep turning over and over” as a link to the 2nd movement of the “Concerto for a Rainy Day”. But please turn me over fits in with Jeff Lynne’s sense of humour. Listen to the backwards masking on Fire on High...

Too many young people have nothing to do, not welcome at home, nowhere else to go and the feeling that society has forgotten them. The only way to get attention is to kill someone, blow themselves up or vandalise historic artefacts.
