  1. Ermmm... It does? Available on iOS (apple), Android and Windows https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/british-railway-modelling/9wzdncrdnqjl https://itunes.apple.com/bf/app/british-railway-modelling-magazine/id586208605?mt=8 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.triactivemedia.brm&hl=en_GB
  2. Clueless in a practical sense? The next generation unfortunately will not have some basic skills like wiring a plug, convert feet to meters or anything that may be considered simple. We have a different skill set because we can just ‘Google’ both of those things. I have recently completed work experience with a FOC at a large TMD and a little knowledge of basic mechanics and electronics goes a long way and I was given more and more responsibilities and in the end, I do think I sped up whoever I was with because I could solder, use a lathe and have a good knowledge of a workshop. My generation are just as practical, just not in the same way. Having grown up with every answer to everything you could ever need in your pocket will mean we will not have skills you regard as standard. But in the world we grow up in, our technological skills will be seen as just as basic. Callum (17)
  3. The NYMR have a beautiful LNER teak set that sees regular use.
  4. I really don’t see the problem in extending the Manchester Vic - Clitheroe service to Hellifield, even if only on every other service. The route knowledge is there because there are regularly run ecs paths from Blackburn King Street depot over that bit of line. Northern also run a parliamentary service they brand as ‘Dalesrail’ but is really only the once weekly train they legally need to run in each direction. Although this is cancelled much more often than it actually runs.
  5. I believe the top number is inspection coach ‘Caroline’. Normally with a class 37 and is used for visual inspection of the track and surroundings by engineers. It has a class 31 controll desk so can drive the class 37 without needing to run around. 68014 is in Chiltern Rail livery not Wessex Trains. 57007 was to be named ‘John Scott’. The plate used to be on a 47. Sounds like it was a good day.
  6. More EE goodness. How about something built outside the UK next
  7. Great set of photos. That's quite a big speed differential, is it 60 for units and 30 for loco hauled?
  8. The plan is for at least one loco of each class operated by DRS to be there. There are usually some renamings of locos and I expect this year to be no different. There is also some other rolling stock present brought for the open day. There will be a selection of various railway related trade stands attending. Enjoy it.
  9. Floorplan of what now seems to be named ‘The Cameron Visitor Centre’ https://planning.fife.gov.uk/online/files/55855CBD0B22630B66507F92A16D6860/pdf/17_03912_FULL-05_-_PROPOSED_FLOOR_PLAN-1976638.pdf
  10. Sheet plasticard should be fine for internal wall. Are you going to cover cabins with curtains?
  11. 'Jessica' looks beautiful. What chassis is underneath her? A also love the saddle tanks on Kato chassis, I've seen very few models on kato tram chassis that look convincing and they look great.
  12. Just seen a HST that seems to have lost its virginity.

      Hroth

We don't talk about that sort of thing, its not gentlemanly!

    2. 60159

      60159

London Inverness train through Perth at around 6pm yesterday had indeed lost its virginity and had been "put upon" by some guy with initials LNER. Same blushing red livery however.

  13. A very interesting piece here about how Code 100 can actually be closer to true rail height for modern lines. Worth a read. http://s374444733.websitehome.co.uk/code75/index.htm Given OO is narrow anyway, taller rails (even if more accurate) will look out of proportion and visually highlight the smaller gauge. Code 75 and smaller really helps in this aspect.
  14. You can’t just ‘sell a loco’ to the NRM, it would be donated and why should he do that? He is putting the pair in a museum like the NRM would. Mr Cameron can do with his possessions what he pleases, he has poured money into both locos for years and we should thank him for the services to rail preservation and keeping these two fine locos on the mainline for so long. You make it sound as if he is turning them into scrap. The NRM doesn’t operate mainline locos either, Riley’s are the custodians of Scotsman and do everything an owner would (organise her tours, provide maintenance, provide footplate inspectors and coordinating activities). It was reported in Steam Railway that Ian Riley made an offer for number 9 and was rejected.
  15. Tail lamp looks really nice considering it’s scratchbuilt. Impressive you managed to solder into SMD LEDs. All of my attempts are either bridged or somewhere in the carpet.
  16. Great work. Especially like the FNAs. Nice to know that the lid comes off without too much work, that could come in handy. Have you just put the SMD LED in an existing tail lamp or did the tail lamp come with a LED? Good luck for your last exam and enjoy the break that follows.
  17. Image here http://hattonsimages.blob.core.windows.net/mediaimages/158EP_2.jpg Announced as £221 for non-sound
  18. Double 47s on a Locomotive Services private charter (for Mr Hoskings Birthday) More double headers
  19. I can see this alongside busses on the trainline website and app. This allows through route planning and tickets
  20. I really don’t have room for Southminster with all the room needed for the mainline and runaround. The advantage of Dungeness being that is on the end of a now dedicated branch. All others (with the exception of sizewell?) are next to running lines: Georgemas Jn for Douneray, Valley, Hunterston, Torness, Bridgwater for Hinkley Point, Heysham (very close to station).
  21. Beautiful plan, thanks for taking the time to draw it. I really like how the curve turns into the complex and giving the whole thing an angle. On mine the track was all parallel to the baseboard edge but that looks miles better. It also gives enough room behind the crane for the truck loop while allowing the line to be in the centre of the board later on. I was planning to use cassettes anyway, but the angle means they take up even less room laterally. I love the long empty straight with the shingle and will try to maximise the length of this. As you say, it should create the impression of size and emptyness on a layout only 2ft deep
  22. Not at all. I'd love to see any other ideas.
  23. Why not? If they get that paths. What you are describing sounds like the privatised railway at its best, with competition. I fully understand where you are coming from, but why not? Obviously NR will only give paths such that the franchise holder isn’t disturbed.
