  1. 15 hour shifts sound very unsafe for driving on the road. "Even 45 hours is part time for truck drivers. All paid at one flat hourly rate. And people wonder why no one wants the job." Those two things are related aren't they? If lorry drivers were to reduce the amount of hours they worked then their labour would become more valuable wouldn't it and subsequently they could demand pay increases. Limiting the supply of labour can lead to an increase in wages, especially if productivity increases (studies have shown a 32 hour work week would see productivity rise). Sorry to go off topic, but I hope Hornby will not continue with such work practices in future.
  2. One thing I noticed in the previous episode which I didn't like was when Montana talked about frequently working very lately, often past midnight. I just think that is wrong and working those sorts of hours should be discouraged. I know Hornby are hardly an exception in that (sadly) but such work patterns are not healthy, no matter how much you may like a job and however much we may want our models.
  3. That's another thing I've thought about too. Why duplicate wagons that are already available in the parkside range when you could make wagons from popular but defunct ranges like Cooper Craft?
  4. Watching this programme I just find it surprising that Hornby don't introduce plastic wagon kits for the railway range. They have the skills to do it in their Airfix department, why not add it to the Hornby range?
  5. Thank you a very much. I wasn't aware of the railway archive and looks a godsend for track plans. I'll check out the Dow and Rolt books on ebay along with the Jackson and Russell book. Thanks all
  6. I'm wanting to research the GCR London extension, ideally in the pre grouping period but I'm happy to look qt information up to closure. What are some good books on the route?
  7. I'd definitely be interested in that.
  8. Don't want to start wishlisting but some of the Great Central Locomotives like the C13, F1 and B2 would be nice and I would buy
  9. Is the 'Dean Tender' kit you refer to a Dean Goods or the 2361 class?
  10. Thank you for that. Yeah I know the basics of DCC from online tutorials but have limited experience using it myself.
  11. That's really interesting, I'd rather just do the signals but could always get in someone to do the train driving.
  12. Does traincontroller work with block bells? That's something I would like to implement
  13. Yeah that could work, how do they simultaneously obey the signals and the controller?
  14. Hello I'm new to the world of DCC and computer control so I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about whether what I am proposing is possible? I am wanting to build a home model railway layout where I am the signalman with the engines driving themselves to a timetable. I pull the levers in the same way a signalman in control of his box would and communicate with the computer via bell codes. A bit like the 'automatic crispin' on Buckingham from what I understand. Is this something that could be done through the power of DCC and computer automation?
  15. Steam and smoke effects for sure, the TRS trains conversions have been very impressive.
  16. Would love it if Peco got involved with the Cooper Craft. I would just like to see them back on the market. I know little of the Blacksmith range.
  17. Very nice, are these scratch built?
  18. Not wanting to hijack the thread but does he have a catalogue or email to contact him? I'd be interested in a few things.
  19. Glad to see some GCR items being reintroduced. Would love to see the GCR box added to that list
  20. That is fantastic news. If no new chassis is supplied will a 4F chassis do?
  21. Yeah a lot of them are great. Always enjoy watching Everard Junction, Dave at Dean Park, Mckinley, Hornby Magazine, Chadwick Model Railway, Steam with a Scooby and a few others.
