  1. Not sure of the make (Lexmark) but at one time (maybe still) it was cheaper to buy a new printer in order to get the replacement cartridges included with it, and then chuck the new printer (or your old one) in the bin. Absolute nuts.
  2. Put it on Freecycle and give it away. Saves the petrol and subsequent risk of nails in tyres on the run to the tip....
  3. I'm knocking up a little something (a desk display piece) for someone at work (not railway related) and I'm looking for the following: (a) Some packing crates/storage boxes (the sort of thing you'd see in a warehouse). (b) A Figure (Male, Dayglo Jacket, Safety Boots, maybe Hardhat, maybe glasses) Pre-finished/painted items are a bonus! Any ideas of suggested suppliers please? My usual is 4mm, so 7mm is less well-known to me. Many thanks Brian
  4. Interesting letter in the Feb 2018 issue of the GOG Gazette (page 73) entitled "The Future of the GOG". Firstly, interesting in that it was published in the first place (full marks for that). It starts off with: "In my view, the Guild's future is dismal due to poor management and a total lack of leadership". It goes on to claim: ".....from our, is it nine, directors who collectively claim tens of thousands of pounds in expenses". And further on: "Could not the Guild's huge funds, more than one hundred and fifty thousands pounds, that has been available for years...." There is no response to any of these claims; I've no idea if they are correct or not (presumably the Annual Accounts would confirm or otherwise?). What I do know is that the March Issue should prove a good read.....
  5. An "Important Message about the Kettering Show" has been added to the GOG Home Page: http://www.gauge0guild.com/Board%20statement%20to%20members.pdf?id=2249
  6. Ahhh....but it's what you don't see that really matters.... 3 hours later after being wheeled about by a very fine selection of nurses ...... Every cloud has a silver lining......
  7. - Which equals Senior Managers missing out on "perks" from suppliers. Cynical? Moi?
  8. I use a similar technique for wiping off bird sh1t from my car's paintwork. Only needs 5 minutes or so, unless it's dried on like concrete - in which case another 5 minutes or so usually does the trick. Just thought I'd mention it...
  9. Pretty unreasonable if you ask me.... Remember, arguing with a woman is just like reading a software licence agreement. In the end you give up and just tick the "I agree" box.....
  10. Out of interest, do you recall what time the picture was taken? Hopefully before the show opened, judging by the lack of crowds....
  11. I recall Pete W. being interviewed on TV, during which he confirmed that he'd spent (IIRC) around 60K on Gold Bath Taps (jeez...). So hopefully he won't see any fellow railway modellers go out of pocket
  12. The discount applies to the cheese festival. Don't forget the Branston......
  13. And if you've remembered to tick the Gift Aid box then the nice tax man (!) will add another 25p in the pound; therefore after only two months in you've already raised £432
  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-43285368 "The weather is being blamed for some traders being unable to get to the site." "But for some of those who paid £22 to get in, there simply weren't enough of those mongers." "Organisers say they're now offering a 50% discount to next year's event for everyone who bought a ticket."
  15. The article mentions a Robin Palmer, who went on to work at ZTC. Was Robin the "main man" up until it's closure? (It was eventually sold/passed on to the current owner.) If so then I recall ZTC selling off units at Scaleforum back in 20?? something for seriously discounted prices, whist neglecting to mention that the company would be shut down just a few weeks later.........
  16. Very sad to hear that. Sir Bill's open weekends at Fawley Hill were always very good - I guess they'll be lost too.
  17. Did you pay by credit card or paypal by any chance? If so then claim back from them. Or if by cheque - has it been cashed yet? If not then cancel the cheque. HTH Brian edit: Just looked up your original post - it was Paypal. So lodge a claim with them for a refund, should be straightforward (just state non-delivery). I believe P.P will find in your favour if they don't receive a defence for JLTRT, which may well be likely. Though I'd not mention to P.P. about JLTRT going into receivership, just in case there's a tiny clause in their very long and complicated terms & conditions..... HTH
  18. Whilst not very old in the grand scale of things, I use a ten quid clam-shell style mobile. No camera, no internet, no fancy screen. Phone calls - yes. Texts - yes. Alarm Clock - yes. One game. Battery lasts the best part of two weeks. Drop it - it still works. Been thru' a 60 degree wash (I wondered what the clunking sound was....) and after a dry out has suffered no ill effects. Try that with a four hundred quid jobbie.
  19. If the show was due to be open until 4pm and they closed it early, doesn't that equate to breach of contract with the paying public? Perhaps partial refunds may be in order
  20. They're just not answering cos' they know people'll want money out of them....
  21. I'd hazard a guess that if the GOG cancel the show then they have to refund the exhibitors etc. However, if the exhibitor fails to turn up then they carry the cost.
  22. I would assume so; however they wouldn't be liable for hire vans, hotels etc. so some traders could be well out of pocket.
