  1. Been reading a secondhand copy of Model Rail. Looks like the previous owner had been scoffing biscuits whilst reading it. Digestives, by the taste of the crumbs...

Don't tell us also that this was whilst sitting on the Seat of Ease?

  2. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the R.N. Lynx heli's went out of service last Friday, after 41(?) years. Spent a good few years working on them....
  3. Does the changing of these settings simply remove the warning, or cure the problem; i.e. are there any potential security implications when doing this? Many thanks
  4. My guess is that the new owner will look hard at the sales of individual product lines versus the cost of stocking them. Any slow-selling items (particularly those that are expensive to produce) could well be for the chop. Might be worth bearing in mind if you're planning to bang in an order prior to transfer of ownership........
  5. Must be time for a re-design soon.... Too late.....I'm gone.....
  6. Any idea regarding shelf life of this paint please?
  7. But is it too late to return the new Miele for a refund? You can buy quite a lot of rail for the cost of a Miele But not quite so much copperclad....
  8. Also, whilst it may be pretty straightforward to convert diesel/electric locos, pulling apart the valvegear on an expensive new RTR large outside cylinder steam loco during a conversion must take some thinking about I recall seeing Dewsbury Midland at the St.Albans exhibition some years ago and looking at the info sheet to see if it was EM or P4 The combination of layout height plus trackplan & positioning of buildings/scenic items really helped to disguise the fact that it was 00. Brian
  9. An ex-chairman of the Emgs admitted to me that, if he were starting again now, he'd model in 00. Why? Simply because of the stratospheric improvements in accuracy, detail and quality of locos and stock compared to just a few years ago. Best Regards, Brian
  10. Out of interest, how does the home-cut sleeper strip compare with SMP strip? It'll be interesting to see how long the blades last - any plans to keep a record of cuts made?
  11. Nice one Coach .....next thing we'll know is: 1. Gordon decides that Eastwood Town in 4mm isn't big enough. 2. Eastwood Town gets scrapped. Again 3. Gordon decides to sell off all 4mm in favour of 7mm 4. Gordon realises Eastwood Town in 7mm isn't going to fit in railway room 5. New railway room required....only there's nowhere suitable. 6. Gordon decides to build new, larger house in order to create larger railway room....... :jester:
  12. I believe Mike Sharman used to use his Lathe resting on his lap whilst in bed.....☺As regards Unimats, I would agree that they are very useful lathes for the modeller; however there were inferior (east German etc) copies (see the Lathes website) and also there are plenty of abused and/or worn examples around, so be careful. Good examples do appear, but tend to command top dollar unless you are lucky. A Presto/Taig lathe is a good alternative HTH Brian
  13. The Peatol Lathe (manufactured and sold in the USA as the Taig Lathe) is now available with power feed; the good news is that the power feed attachment is available as a separate kit for retro-fitting to existing Taig/Peatol lathes. See the following links for info etc: http://www.jeffree.co.uk/Peatol/pricelist.pdf http://www.cartertools.com/ http://www.soigeneris.com/taig_lathe_power_feed_kit__1016-details.aspx There's plenty on the web, including videos on YouTube. The examples and quality of work being produced by some has to be seen to be believed - the links on the CarterTools website should show some. HTH Brian p.s. Taig also produce a CNC variant of the lathe
  14. But presumably only if they model everything on the layout strictly to scale, and not just the track dimensions.... Hat, coat, gone.....
  15. Claim your money back under the Premier Inn "Good Night Guarantee" http://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/terms/booking-terms-and-conditions.html#gng (They can't argue that it is due to weather conditions beyond their control - Exclusion 1 - cos' they decided to turn the fans off). Nothing ventured, nothing gained... HTH
  16. The Technical assistant at work has decided to bale out and effectively retire after 27 years. When quizzed on this she replied "I've run out of holiday". Fair enough...

  17. Does the purchase of a RTR Loco rate as a sin? I can see it now...a new "Confessions" thread. "Forgive me Tony, for I have sinned...." "Build two loco kits my son, and thou shalt be forgiven......"
  18. Not to mention the remnants of giant turd deposited by the last delightful passenger who couldn't be bothered to read the "Do not flush whilst standing in station" sign......
  19. Good luck with that one Richard.... Tickets on sale now, with popcorn, candy-floss, ice-cream and hot-dogs available during the interval from Andy Y. Ding Ding, Round One... Hat, Coat, last seen heading for Heathrow.....
  20. I'd suggest that plain trackwork at 16.2mm would alienate the product from the mainstream market of 00, with customers preferring to wait until Peco release their own product. However, turnouts at 16.2mm could be used with both 16.5mm plain trackwork (with appropriate lead-in/out) and also (perhaps at a later date?) 16.2mm plain trackwork. And since Peco are (I would guess) most unlikely to offer their own (semi-promised?) "scale" turnouts in 16.2mm then it would mean that DCC Concepts won't be going head-to-head with a rival on a similar offering. That's my guess anyway. Maybe we should start to run a book on it.... Cheers, Brian
  21. Ricky the Rover sails thru' yet another MOT; 23 years young and 237K on the clock. I'm a happy Bunneee, I'm a happy Bunneee......

It's a Rover 214 3-door, wedge-shape. I get to drive a wide range of hire cars thru' work, but I'm always glad to get back to the Rover. Mind you, the Dodge Charger hire car came a (very) close second, despite an Auto Box with sooooo slow kickdown....

  22. I wonder what standard the turnouts will be manufactured to? Will they be a true "00 Finescale" product, or has DCC Concepts used that as a trade name only? If the latter then I can see some confusion creeping in maybe?
  23. No way am I putting that in the Ebay search box.........
