  1. Thanks for this Richard, website perused and the relevant fret duly ordered! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  2. Just completed from a CDC printed bodyshell Link to topic............https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/162692-lms-2p-044t-from-a-3d-print/ Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  3. G'day to all Wright's Writers, I have just completed this model from a 3D print. Details here: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/162692-lms-2p-044t-from-a-3d-print/ Whilst not perfect it does show how this particular technology is improving. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  4. I have always been fascinated by the 10 locomotives 41900-09 which didn't appear to fit into the LMS loco. policy of the time. An r-t-r version seems most unlikely, and I cannot recall a 4mm kit for the locomotives. I was therefore very pleased to see on the CDC models website a 3D-printed body for these locos to fit the Hornby short-framed M7 chassis. Having previously used the same suppliers J68 and NLR tank body mouldings I was hoping for a similar standard. I was not disappointed. This is the manufacturers photo and represents pretty much what you can expect. Researching photos online shows that all class members were push/pull fitted with standard LMS equipment on this side early on in their careers. Alan Gibson is out of stock of his castings, so I made a version up from styrene bits and pieces. This required part of the handrail to be removed. This pic also shows the rivets applied with Archers transfers to the smokebox and worksplates on the tank sides, a feature of this class, A second brake control pipe is also added to the bufferbeams, The rear of the bunker was detailed with the addition of three steps and another larger worksplate, (the real thing was not built at Swindon in 1962)! The cab rear windows are glazed with clear styrene, 6mm discs, held in with Klear. There should be protective grilles over them but I haven't yet come up with a modelling solution. The other side showing the ejector pipe, This is moulded on the body as supplied, I chose to remove it and replace it with 1mm brass rod. The additional Archer rivets show up to good effect on the smokebox. Other notes on the build: I found that as supplied the body moulding sat very high on the Hornby chassis and required a considerable amount of material removing from the front and rear mounting points to sit down on the chassis at the correct buffer height. Since I run DC only, I removed the DCC board fittings and associated wiring and wired direct to the motor to provide more room inside the body. The body moulding is already sprayed in black and red as received, With the various additions I found it necessary to spray with Tamiya TS29 semi-gloss black. Transfers are from Fox, sealed with Tamiya semi-gloss varnish. Worksplates were various leftovers from LNER renamings, the bunker one is from a 'Western'! Further work could be done on the chassis to extend the brake rodding over the second driving wheel set as per prototype, I am still thinking this one through! Overall I am very pleased with the look of the model, as a 'layout' loco. it captures the spirit of the original, and provided a reason for me to finish this!! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  5. Unashamedly pinched from another thread...with Polybear in mind! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  6. Without wishing to appear a smart@rse, the answer is carefully. I used a new small scalpel blade to gently carve as much of the edges away as possible, then used the same blade sideways to pare away any residual and smooth everything over. Not a quick job by any means, and the nearness of rivets make it doubly perilous! Another method that I might use now is a pointed grinding stone in a minidrill. I have used this method for similar jobs since with some success. The problem with Mr Adder's suggestion is that the plate is undernourished in the first place. Hope this helps, Cheers, Peter C.
  7. For Chris F. and other Koala luvvers...they never stop! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-15/prosthetic-limb-for-koala-dentists-triumph-lismore/13156486 Cheers from a hot 38C Fortress WestOz, Peter C.
  8. Absolutely correct! This one was purchased off Australian EBay as an unlined green GW example. Lined out with a Fox transfers lining pack and Fox plates it has been a very reliable loco., handling the heaviest freight trains with ease. Removing the original numberplates was a PITA! I was pulled by the real 4701 on 24/9/1960 on the Talyllyn Preservation Society special, she did the Padd.-Shrewsbury leg, which Dad and 9 y.o. me joined at Snow Hill. Over 60 years ago! Cheers from Fortress WestOz, Peter C.
  9. No, the 'wrong' facing lions face the front on both sides of the tender or tank, thus looking at the pix of ToF, the tender has the heraldically correct rear-facing lion on one side, which is incorrect for this loco. according to Yeadon as quoted above! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.

    Preorder email

I have just checked my preorders, I ordered the Triang containers on 06/01/21. That was quick by my standard, so who got in before me? Hint: we are 8 hours ahead UK time. Peter C.

    Preorder email

Oddly my email stated they CAN supply the W1 late crest, but the 2 Tri-Ang containers I ordered have been cancelled. No mention of the 2 20T Esso tankers on the same pre-order. The conflat cancellation is a pest as I do like Hattons trunk system, as far as I know no-one else offers a comparable service. It is ideal for bulking up small item orders and saving on postage. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  12. You are quite correct about the Tyseley visit. It was the 1974 Open Day event, which took place on the first weekend in October, Sat/Sun 5-6th. BP ran the 'shuttle' from the shed to a siding near the North Warwicks. line, (which I think has now gone ). It was hauling a variety of coaching stock, including a Thompson corridor coach in BR blue marshalled next to the tender. I took several photographs as it was the first time I had seen an A2 pacific. However, my ticket to Australia was booked for the 16th November so I left the (colour) film and a fiver with my brother-in-law to get it developed and send on to me, they never appeared! 60532 has eluded me to this day on my return visits to the UK. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  13. Another one for Chris F.... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-08/sa-freeway-koala-rescue/13132506 Cheers from a cold wet WestOz, Peter C.

  15. Looking forward to these as I saw quite a few at Tyseley 'back in the day'! Also good to see that it does NOT have a coreless motor, I can leave my Relcos on! I would like 7823 Hook Norton in late crest BR green. Any experts out there help me with the most suitable model to rename/number please? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  16. I have just received an email from Model Railways Direct and many of these are in stock. https://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/ No connection etc.... Cheers, Peter C.
  17. Do you have plans to release the K4 and tender as 3D prints. If so, what chassis is needed for the K4? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  18. Some interesting kit-built wagons from this seller? No connection etc. just for information. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-BUILT-TT-3mm-GAUGE-S-R-BROWN-OPEN-WAGON-4068/203236245005?hash=item2f51d2fe0d:g:kIIAAOSwDphf8FrN Cheers from Oz, Peter C.

    Scissors crossing

Looking at the left-hand picture the bottom left point appears to be an electrofrog example. All the others are insulfrog. This might have a bearing on the issue as it will not be self-isolating? A quick test might be to remove that point and check the working of the rest of the crossing. Cheers, Peter C.
  21. It looks good! Did a full set ever run to the East Midlands??! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  22. Is that the new Hornby one Tony??? Cheers from Oz with tongue in cheek, Peter C.
  23. I completed these amongst other things during the last six Covid months, although living in Fortress WA we have not felt the effects of the virus as much as others. That said, getting modelling supplies from the UK has been tricky at times. Two Thompson B2 class using Hornby B1/B17 parts. Two D49/2 'Hunt' class from the Hornby Railroad model and Hornby/scratch detailing parts. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  24. Getting hold of the Q6 tender was pure luck! An LNER Q6 was advertised on Oz Ebay as non-working and I won it for a reasonable sum. I fixed it, a problem with the tender wiring, and managed to sell the loco. body/chassis for more than I paid for it. I had originally set it aside for a D49 'Shire' but the B2 trumped it. Cannot find another anywhere, I am currently building an NER tender from a DJH kit I won on Ebay, it is a brute of a thing! Only wish Dave Alexander was still producing his! Please do not point me towards the excellent etched brass kits, these are way out of my soldering league! Cheers from Oz, Peter C. PS Anyone with a spare Hornby NE tender, the pm button is available!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. Here it is Andy!! https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/160392-Hornby-thompson-b1-to-b2-conversion/ Any questions please ask! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
