  1. These look really good, and totally different to other LNER carriage stock. Whilst I know it didn't happen, I hope you can include BR (E) number decals for each coach! They will complement the J70 perfectly. Are these available for pre-order yet? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  2. If that is the case then to enable the 'early' side to be bought up to 'late' spec. all that is needed is a pair of etched /3D printed grilles for each end and one for the centre window? Someone, anyone? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  3. Absolutely agree with this, and knowing Heljan keep an eye on this forum, I am holding off my pre-order in the hope that green/early crest becomes an option. Definitely one for me though to complete the early prototype set. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  4. This morning, Geoff Haynes brought round some models for photography he's painted.......... Just goes to show how good those Hornby 'generic' six-wheelers come up with a decent paint job!!!! Smiles from Oz, Peter C.
  5. That schoolboy will be branded a fudger by his mates, they will never believe he saw two Scottish standard four tanks at his local Southern Region yard in two days, he's on his own too, no witnesses. The lad is doomed I tell you! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  6. Given some of the wisdom passed on in this thread, especially by Widnes M C , I bit the bullet and ordered the Caprotti 5 from the Hornby website. It will be sent to a UK address, so I will pay VAT, but miss the 50GBP postage demanded for overseas orders. Hopefully it will be packed well enough to survive the journey to the Midlands. With luck, my wife may be in the UK to coincide with it's arrival! I am still less than happy with the whole Hornby supply chain affair, but other than pay an inflated price on EBay after the event, I was left with little choice. Now if Accurascale announce one tomorrow, guess what I'll do! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  7. Yes it does, and as to packaging, having seen the horror stories with Hornby's idea of packaging in the W1 topic, I dread to think of how the model will survive the 13,000 miles to Oz loose in a box! In Summary, VAT is 38.33GBP, postage is free to UK, 50GBP to Oz. My UK contact normally sends a parcel when there are enough items to weigh just under 2kg, this costs around 25GBP, so the postage is amortized over several items. With luck, we may even be visiting by the time this is released! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  8. Living in Australia, and being rather keen to obtain a 'gorilla blackie', I bit the bullet and ordered from the Hornby website. Vat was removed , but postage to Oz was 50GBP! Now I assume that this means it will be personally delivered by the lovely Montana, who will obviously wish to stay for tea, but, crunching the numbers, it will be cheaper for me to have it sent post-free to a UK address, then have my friend repack it and send it on. I did not proceed with the purchase, as with S/Master Mike, I would like to see some evidence that it will be correct before committing. I use Hattons/Rails/Kernow for most of my orders. Fortunately there is very little Hornby are offering that I would like, but I am yet another modeller feeling very frustrated by their behaviour. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  9. Now this topic could become very controversial...and get closed down quite quickly! Perhaps a new topic "On Pussies"? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  10. Very nice John, I will probably try something similar with mine, (depending how many of my Hattons order arrive). Will you be releasing the transfers as a sheet in your range? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  11. I like the big French electric locos with the 'West Country' style names and crests. Were they actually place names and crests of that place? Forgive my ignorance, I know very little about European continental locos. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  12. I have not been to the train shed for a week! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-22/perth-records-record-fifth-consecutive-day-over-40-degrees/100775652 I am getting withdrawal symptoms. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  13. I will see how my order for three of PIL 002 goes at Hattons, I also have a couple of the GE Banana and unfitted goods vans on pre-order too. If those are cut I may have to look elsewhere or do the unthinkable and order direct. It would not be so bad if they were all released at once, but arriving in bits and drabs, with only Hattons currently offering the excellent trunk system, as GWR fan says, postage charges become significant. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  14. I too have had an order for three cut to one, and suspect the tier bullying is responsible, especially since I received an email from Oxford at the same time inviting me to order direct from the factory, (Pilchards showing 'in stock' and allowed three to be ordered and paid for with 8.95GBP shipping, no VAT deduction. I did not order.). I have been using the trunk system for some time now and it is ideal for postage savings. You do not pay 'up front' but at the time the model arrives in stock. Thus you can order in stock items, pay for them, and have them put in your trunk, and also pre order items to be put in the trunk and pay for them when they arrive. You can then ship all items in one parcel at Hattons' reasonable postage rates. I believe you have to clear your trunk bi-annually, but the system is good and I wish other retailers offered a similar service! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  15. Both with spoked tender wheels!!! I really must get out more! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  16. Hi Peter You could maybe look at replacing the wheels yourself but this is not something we would do, not sure on the spoked wheels but this is the decision that was taken to produce them as such. Kind regards Heather On 18/01/2022 04:45, Peter Chandler wrote: Thank you for the prompt reply Simon. Is there any way that the spoked tender wheels can be replaced with the correct disc type? It seems all other variants on your website have disc wheels, were you unlucky to catch the only wrongly spoked wheels? 60964 is of interest to me as it represents the variant I wish to model. Thanks, Peter Chandler I attach the correspondence from Rails, now I am confused!!!! PJT, can you attach a pic please? Cheers, Peter C.
  17. Thanks for that Pete, the link that Black 5 Bear kindly sent shows 60845?? If you have indeed got the latest all-singing Rails special 60964 and it has disc wheels, then I may go all Nelson to the other faults and get one, as I intend to do 60835. Bachmann in their wisdom decided to model their BR green example with outside steam pipes, which severely limits renaming/numbering choices and time frame. Thanks to all for your quick responses! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  18. Queried Rails of Sheffield regarding the tender wheels on their 60964 and was disappointed to find they are spoked. Does anyone know if Bachmann disc wheels will be available as spares? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  19. Did you see any of the 'crabbing' issue mentioned above Ben, and are the tender wheels disc or spoked? I'm still in two minds regarding a BR green one. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  20. Locos no problem, wagons? Easy! However, the construction of modern RTR coaches, particularly with regard to glazing methods makes it quite a daunting task to do a respray. Often the glazing is firmly glued inside the body and can crack when attempting removal. Yes, masking will work but the slightest error can be disastrous! Just my thoughts. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  21. With the imminent?? release of the KR models 'Consett' 56 ton Hoppers, and having ordered a set, this week I moved a project from the 'to-do' pile to the 'done'! Motive power for my rake will be this: This is a Hornby O1 2.8.0. fitted with air pumps and pipework for controlling the hopper doors. The model was modified using Ray Kitching's excellent how-to article in the August 2013 BRM magazine. Ray was using a Dave Alexander kit meant for the standard 9F 2.10.0. This is no longer available so I used the excellent Dave Franks' Westinghouse pumps and modelled the other items from plastic card. The vacuum tanks on either side are from a Hornby LNER tender top, 0.7mm brass wire forms the pipework bent into submission. The vacuum ejector pipe on the other side, not shown, was from an old Airfix Royal Scot. Vacuum/Westinghouse pipes on the buffer beam are from the Hornby B17 detail kit. Painting is by Tamiya rattlecans, transfers from Fox, chassis weathering Vallejo. (It is obvious from the clean state the loco. has just returned from Gorton Works, it won't stay this way for long!). The bright early evening sun, (it is around 28C), certainly highlights the detail. Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  22. With your permission Tony, the D49 has always been a favourite class of mine, although I never saw any 'back in the day', I was fortunate to see 'Morayshire' at the GCR in 2014. My take on the Hornby D49 as follows: I have also modelled 62717 with an ex-N.E. tender and 62723 with an attempt at the re-bodied G.C. tender. I have since found evodence that this should tow the flare-sided 4200 gal. G.S. type. I have plans to model 62742, with its unusual large red-backed nameplate, plus at least two other 'Shires'! So little time, so much to do! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  23. Thank you for this very informative answer Nidge. My father-in-law to be worked on the Mini line at Longbridge from start-up to the start of the Allegro build, (he moved across to become a foreman, always maintained it was worst thing he ever did!). I remember the Abingdon red/white examples, but had completely forgotten about the black roof examples. My all time favourite was the almond green/white combo, always looked very smart. My first car was a 1960 Morris Mini, floor starter button and sliding windows, cherry red, 900 PTE. Purchased from an Irish backyard mechanic who lived up the road, it was a money pit. I could have had, for the same price, a well looked after Morris Minor from the respectable garage on the corner, (Greenhill Motors, Moseley, owned by Smiths), but as a 17 year old in 1968, what are you going to do? Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
  24. I thought all the Cooper S models had chrome trim around the front windows and a (usually) white roof? I'm prepared to be corrected, I was 14 when that pic. was taken! Cheers from Oz, Peter C.
