  1. Haha I wish Stephen.... Nahh it normally takes about 2-3 nights depending on the complexity of the vehicle or on the amount of shared components i can rip from other wagons like Axle boxes and brake gear etc! Then another evening getting ready it for the printer! Though these wagons are not as exciting as your recent GWR coach work sir, I have been enjoying following your endeavours on that, and they are shaping up rather lovely.... 7mm versions? ;)
  2. Wow this is an indeed an impressive number of models you have designed, have you any pictures of the final printed models, would be fantastic to see these? Cheers Rob
  3. More ropey cold weather preventing me from cracking on with more printing! I did get a bit of a run before the cold spell and managed to rattle off a GC 3plk, LSWR Meat van and a couple of LBSC 5plks, but sadly the snow has put the kabosh on my GCR fishvan :( In the meantime some updated and new models in 7mm to get printing come the better weather. 4 wheel Billinton Brake is a for a friend at the club, and the 6 wheeler which is slightly wider is for my growing 7mm collection I have experimented with using zbrush for creating extra detail on the bolster plank, with a couple of splits, and rough timber details Now I need to get some 4mm stock ready for @BlueLightning :) 1369 1617 1568 1575

  5. Thanks folks I hope to check to see how see how she performs on Monday when I get to the club, I have whacked transfers on one side of this model, as I managed to cock up the otherside!!! schoolboy error or what. I still haven't fixed the roof yet until I have properly weighted her inside all being well she runs!! Anyway I am waiting for the arrival of new transfers and then I can finish this brake, and weather it a bit to fit in with the rest of the wagons. Also printed this GNR 5plk last week and been painting it up, still needs some more subtle weathering work before I can call it finished Next up I have some printing of LBSCR Billinton goods brakes for Peter at the club so need to pull my finger out and get the CAD up to scratch before I print them Cheers Rob
  6. Mike your L&Y Brake van is stunning chap! I love how unique and different these brake vans of the L&Y where, I didn't realise they where in black also which looks great. Im really keen to build one now in 3d, but there is no way I can possibly match the craftmanship and finish of this baby, inspirational work as always sir thanks for sharing.
  7. Hey Keith another excellent suggestion sir, but does anyone sell flangeless 7mm wheels do you know?
  8. Linny I can always count on you to come up with great ideas thank you :) Ok... i got carried away and started painting her up, she stills needs a bit more paint, and the roof isn't fixed yet as I think I will need to add a bit of weight in this puppy if she is to run right on the rails! The question is.... Will she Run, and I won't know the answer to that sadly probably until next monday when I can get down the club again and test her! So I have created the two middle wheels on floating axles like I did for the 6 wheeler coaches, however I used peartree solid wheels for those vehicles, which added a lot of ballast/weight to the model, helping it to sit on the rails better! I will try to get some better pics tomorrow when im not legging it out the door! i may just chuck some transfers on tonight whilst watching a bit of crap TV!!! Crazy I know but i figure if she doesn't run, she can sit looking pretty in a siding somewhere..... While i figure out how to build one that does ;)
  9. starting to work this 8 wheeled GNR Brake up in 7mm, will see how the wheels work or whether i need to scrap them and build some bogies instead! Ideally prefer not to as it will detract a lot from the original look and feel of these hefty brake vans. Just placed together presently, needs a little more cleaning up in places! plus I have solebars round the wrong way below doh!
  10. Thanks Andy, even better pulled by your J50 with sound :)
  11. Taking the plunge and having a go at weathering some of these 3d printed wagons I knocked up last year. I have tried a bunch of techniques to see how they work, from airbrushing, weathering powders and washes, and in conclusion they are all quite fun once you get over the scary bit of just diving in!!! Transfers thanks to Simon at Old Time Workshop
  12. Hello Andy, hope you had a cracking time in Scotland? Im thinking of trying two floating axles to begin, if not I have mocked up some bogies but im not convinced they dont detract from the original design/look of this van, so want to keep it as original as possible! I think its going to need some weight in this van to keep it on the tracks! I have printed the body section, now to print solebars and roof and see how it looks, hopefully bring it to the club on monday night all being well. :)
  13. Going to try and get this working in 7mm been long overdue but I have always had a soft spot for this GNR 8 wheel brake
  14. Thank you sir, I do plan to scale them down, I will have to adjust some of the tolerances as I have found when reducing the plank spacing down for instance it gets lost at 4mm, so i exaggerate the gap slightly, most will be horrified im sure ;) but its purely to provide a better read on the models when painting, otherwise in reality the detail is probably very slight! Other than that and some of the handle thicknesses they scale down nicely.
  15. more MR 7mm wagons to add to the mix, looking forward to printing some of this stuff off in spring. I'm also toying with the idea of selling my STL's I have close to 150 now wagons and Coaches, but still wondering the best way to do it? Anyway MR 8Ton Coke, MR Fruit Van, MR 10Ton Van.
  16. More wagon modelling, trying to bash out as many as I can before march when I hope to get back into printing off some of this stock! MR 14FT Van and MR single Bolster
  17. I checked out Cult3d and i think it again a real mismatch of quality with not a huge lot to choose from, I wonder if the reason why there isn't much in terms of STL's or even Model railway stuff to buy already printed is because there isn't quite yet the market for the model railway industry in the UK? Miniatures on the other hand are supremely popular and are very well catered for. As you say perhaps a dedicated site for selling model railways stl's might be a cracking idea. Not necessarily just British model railways but worldwide could be a very good idea! One that would allow external printing partners to license stl's to print and sell to those who don't have the 3d printing facilities but would still want to get a print of any of the items offered on the site.
  18. More Wagon Shenanigans, this time adding a bit more variety to my 7mm collection for spring time printing What pre-grouping wagon collection wouldn't be without an MR 299 wagon, these bad boys where all over the place so I figured I best knock one up for printing! Finally an LTSR Fish van to add to my growing fish train collection with the GCR and LYR vans
  19. I agree with both Jim and Njee if it ain't broke... don't fix it! I have only had to update the bios on one of printers, and that was an fdm printer and I had upgraded the extruder to use different materials which is why i had to do it.
  20. This is a good question, because right now the model railway world is pretty under represented when it comes to buying Stl’s for 3d printing! I am personally toying with the idea of uploading all my stl’s so folks can purchase at very reasonably low prices! But am unsure which site to upload to as most sites seem to cater for wargaming and miniatures as opposed to model railways sadly!
  21. Whilst the weather is still pretty cold im avoiding spending anytime down in the studio and cracking on with some more wagons for printing in spring Here I have a couple L&YR Wagons another Fish Truck to go with my GCR fish van, a very unusual but fantastic looking vehicle. Followed up with a simpler 3plank Loco Sand wagon.
  22. Sorry Stevel for my slow response at getting back its been a hectic few days These aren't drawn in blender im using 3dsmax and Z brush to make these meshes, I do think Blender is very good though! I only use 3dsmax and Zbrush because I have used them for many many years so know them fairly well to produce models in! If I was getting into 3d modelling today I would definitely use Blender, im thinking about having a go myself when i get some spare time!!!! Spare time what is that then ;) Cheers Rob
  23. In the meantime I have been finishing some work off on a French WW2 barn for the bolt action project! Marmion Farm as used in Band of Brothers I believe along with a picture back in 1944 and as is today. Note these photos are purely for reference only As in 1944
  24. Ahh volume one yes indeedie its the LNER Southern Area yes I have that and if you are referring to the Glass wagon on p149 yeah its very nice, and different have been thinking of trying some different types of wagons so will have a go sir :)
  25. Hello Richard, i thought volumes 4 where just LNER built wagons and didn’t include any pre grouping wagons am I wrong? If so i may need to get a vol 4 :)
