  1. It seems to arrange by posts rather than topic now so I have a whole bunch of the same topic:
  2. Afternoon all. Our girl cat has bone cancer . She had some teeth removed a few weeks ago and they took samples then. It'll be weeks rather than months as although she isn't in any pain (that we can see), she'll find it too difficult to eat. She's my wife and I first cat and what a cat! She's so good and is more intelligent than other cats I see. For example, she knows when you're upset so will come and try and comfort you. Tried and tested many a time over the 12 years of her life. I've also realised it's the first time I've had to deal with a lot of grief in my life. Only lost an uncle and grandparents - all of which lived a good few hours away from me, I saw them once every 2 or 3 years, sometimes more, plus I was younger so pretty "detached". I know some may think "it's only a pet" but they really do become part of the family. It'll be a great loss to us but she's had a brilliant life.
  3. If you struggle, I may have a spare one or two of these: https://www.hattons.co.uk/56889/peco_products_sl_113_transition_track_for_converting_code_75_to_100_for_oo_ho_gauge_pack_of_4/stockdetail.aspx
  4. I got my sockets from this person on ebay: https://ebay.co.uk/usr/blwtechnicalservices No 8-pin available at the moment but maybe just out of stock. Perfect for my needs. Buy 5 more than you need for future use.
  5. Morning all. Weather yesterday was sunny from 9 - 4. Have lined up about 6 washes. Today weather days sunny from 1 - 3. Not the best start to the day! But not bad either.
  6. You can also sign up for an email account (like Outlook / Gmail), then sign in to it through Thunderbird. You should be able to drag and drop emails / folders from other accounts to it. I always "print" emails (to a PDF) and just store them in a folder. Windows 10 makes searching simple and have found myself using it more and more rather than manually clicking through.
  7. I think we have a big plan ahead of us. Grew up in the Midlands but went on holiday to the South West seaside every summer staying with grandparents, who had a model railway, hence I got into it. Currently on holiday here but we've decided we really want to move here to live. It won't be for a few years as we'd want to save save save to get something good but with views like this, it's now our aim.
  8. Have decided to name some of our house plants today. The first one is Calathea Elger Grass: I named it Sideshow Bob.
  9. Making some sort of noise when getting up from or sitting down on the sofa.
  10. Indeed! I'm sure there have been manufacturers recently that have decided to withdraw their models when they came to a bump, or even a huge mountain of a problem. While not knowing the ins and outs of those, I am glad, even though I'm not in the market for these, that Accurascale are continuing. I may be convinced to pick a set up as time progresses.
  11. Morning everyone. Found work to be increasingly isolating and difficult at the moment. Not sure what's happening. The early part of the week was pretty good but yesterday and today seem to have gone significantly down hill. Not being included in certain emails for example. I also offered to print off some paper work for someone else and did so. No more than 10 minutes later, they came to me with the same paperwork and said they'd printed a copy off for me! There was no crossed wires. I've sent out some information through the system. Within 10 minutes the other person on the desk has sent out the same thing. This happened two or three times. Plus, they continue to send internal things externally. That same person also sends disruption messages for something that lasts less than 10 mins and affects just one train. Then had a bit of a go at me for not putting a message out! I didn't think it warranted it and have been taught that way. Hmm. I may as well be invisible. But hey, at least I get paid for it! However, on the up - ingredients components for coach lighting have arrived - couldn't be bothered to wait for the company I was going to use to get their kits together (been waiting months), so that's all ready for me. I bought enough to do 40 sets. I have two sets of 8, a set of 4 for definite. But I could potentially do another 8 coaches, although that's a fair bit of work as I took off the wipers from my intermediate S-Stock to help with running, so would have to screw them back in. But hey, that's the price of having coach lighting :P Plus, I'm on leave next week, having a good break down in the South West - first family holiday!
  12. It still baffles me that people are happy to accept lower winning bids instead of reposting for a higher price, yet when selling a house they're more than happy to accept a gazumped higher offer...
  13. In the hope the seller will end the auction and sell at that price...
  14. I used more than recommended on my layout. The locos that stuttered a lite at points, there was no stuttering after application. I need to test more over a year or so but I'm happy graphite here and there, helps more than hinders.
  15. Today I had been given 45 mins to waste while a colleague was being assessed. I spent most of it in an open space area watching people. Then I watched some pigeons. One, slightly portly pigeon was chasing another slimmer one. Then I wondered how to tell the difference between a girl pigeon and a boy one. Even more so, how do pigeons tell the difference?! Then I went back to work. Quite a productive 45 mins.
  16. BREAKING NEWS... The Seven Dwarfs have Been Advised that as of next Monday, they can only meet in Groups of six. One of them isn't happy.
  17. So I could potentially skip using that one? Would that potentially trip the power controller as a sudden rush of 8 coaches filling their capacitor at the same time could be seen as a short? But then I guess 1000uF isn't that big - just hope it's big enough for what I'm looking for.
  18. Thank you so much - just what I needed! I guess I need the 220R resistors from the list? Or will 200R be okay?
  19. Also, a silly question, there seems to be a whole host of different 1k resistors... how do I know which are the right ones for me to buy?
  20. I'll probably keep coming back to this thread as I progress. My knowledge of basic electronics is woeful but this is why I'm looking to DIY, so I can learn more. Running DCC. Plan to have up to 8 coaches per rake and perhaps two or three rakes on the layout at one time. I have a list of components but have stumbled at the first one: Bridge Rectifier: The 12v (maybe it's 16v?) or so that runs through my tracks... does this mean I need a bridge rectifier that is higher than the volts from the rails? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes and to be honest, I struggled to find one less than 200v or so. But what about amps. Found one that looks okay but it says 0.8/1 amp - what does this mean? There's also a 1amp one here that is slightly cheaper. I guess if the above one is suitable, this will be too? Capacitor: While quite over what I may need, this 16v 2200uf version should be okay to use? this 25v 2200uf version seems to fit the bill. Cheers.
  21. This is stupid! I have a 3 hour shift at work tomorrow. By the time I get in and started, I'll be closing everything down! However, then a day off, then on Friday, assessment day. I hope I pass!
  22. So in the midst of all this madness, I've worked out a time saving method in life. I only wear black socks. It's been a habit to turn the tops together when putting them in the wash backer, then again when putting them away. Why? So I stopped doing it and just shove them in any old how. When getting some to wear, just grab any old two and I'm away. Why I didn't think of this years ago, I'll never know!
  23. Thanks. These are similar to the ones I already have, but mine are painted differently. Maybe purchasing these will give variety. Cheers!
  24. In his account. Not accounts from other people he knows or cash under his mattress...
