  1. Yeah, although I usually browse on a much older browser, which is getting less and less supported. Some forums I find easier to use a mobile version - but not an option here any more. In the browser I use, I can't even highlight text... I appreciate old browsers can't be supported forever, hence an option to turn some of the "helpful" features off would perhaps help even those on modern browsers.
  2. I wonder if this "not wow" is because the 90 is older tooling now? The Accurascale 92 for example seems to have been designed in the last 6 months and it's already into engineering prototype production. Wasn't the 90 announced years ago (and I assume CAD drawn back then?). As technology is pushed further, quicker, even something that was done 5 years ago could be classed as "old" now.
  3. I wonder if the cogs were fixed good, whether I could just opt for any old modern wheel set that would fit if I can sort out the wipers on the back...
  4. Thanks for the input so far. I thought about adding some flatter, more modern swipers to the current wires (which are pretty stiff) but it's a bit of a tight space without taking the whole bogie off. I wonder if I could bend the wires slightly so they're always touching the rear of the wheel instead of being in the little lip holder for them? I guess a mini repair on the cogs might work (I could always just hold it with pliers and watch an episode of TV!) - nothing to particularly lose I guess. Have looked at the Peter's Spares thread, but not sure if these wheels have a particular name. Will enquire with him/them about replacements. I have another loco I want to look at wheelsets for too!
  5. You're right. I always thought it was much more robust than that. Although I'd feel a lot safer pledging via a 3rd party rather than just essentially giving someone money.
  6. That's just misleading. Kickstarter is a "pure crowdfunding venture" with a guarantee of return (or a refund). - incorrect info. Tarting all projects with the same brush isn't great.
  7. Is there a way to turn off the rich text editor when posting? I am finding it more of a hindrance than help. For example, I have yet to find a way to nest a quote from one person within another persons quote. Quoting either one alone won't quite make sense - especially as they're from two different topics.
  8. Currently reading through the thread but one thing that has struck me up to page 16 is thus: Communication from DJM has been very poor. There's mis-leading all over the statement. Some have come away thinking he owns the rights to certain locos, others think it's just the CAD work. Either way, it's poorly written. That simple fact alone is enough to turn me off. My ellocution isn't great but if I was running a company, I'd be asking others how it reads before posting.
  9. I guess nobody signed any contractual agreement they'd pay the whole amount for something like the APT? I wonder what will happen if 80% of people didn't pay any more money towards the model... surely the project couldn't go ahead as there simply won't be enough funds? Does that mean investors will get a refund of their payment? Because if not, would that be inviting court action? Because it's not your problem if not enough people pay the next installments.
  10. Sorry to go a little OT - could someone point me in the direction (or PM, or just reply) a little more about the tooling section? I don't understand how you can own tooling but not be able to produce anything else from it? If it were me, I'd be looking to ship that tooling (assuming it's a half sensible size) to my house.
  11. This is what I don't get about this style of "crowd funding". It's rare, but through Kickstarter you can get a refund if you decide you don't want the product, even after you've been charged. Are people seriously just giving money away for free with very little protection? If you paid by credit card, I'd section 75 the payment through genuine concerns the product won't be as promised (due to the competition) and concern over mis-use of funds (IE, has he used your money to fund this IP venture? Can he prove he hasn't?).
  12. Thanks for reporting back! Great for looking back and helping others in the future
  13. Sorry, I wouldn't call that crowdfunding method "normal". If something goes wrong, the ownus is on the person giving their money away to try and get it back then, which can be quite difficult. If I support a crowdfunding venture on something a bit more established, like Kickstarter, then they add their own layer of protection and it's them I go to for my money if something goes wrong. So this really is just paying someone money in the hope they'll come true of their word... with no real timeline of events or any regulations from the producer side of the agreement. Thanks for clearing up!
  14. Also, can someone just clarify the "crowdfunding" method DJM uses? Am I correct in thinking people just pay sums of money and hope something will come of it? I wouldn't say that's crowdfunding.
  15. The first bit seems to show how foolish he is/was. The next bit reads like a threat of "only I can authorise certain models to be produced". Does he think this will halt the development of the Accurascale 92? It also reads that it'll stop duplication of models. Isn't this a backhanded method of collusion? Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer models not be duplicated (unless one is very, very old tooling), so I am all for collusion but he can't moan about it earlier in the release, then trumpet what will happen. Just don't understand it.
  16. Here's a video: The loco from above looks a bit like this: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_2019_04/02.jpg.a54bed3b86cb9d1e44f8ce21a688c598.jpg/img] The wheels look like this: I have found a crack in the cog on the wheel: After taking both wheel sets off, the bumping seems to have been cured. The wheels are 1.2cm in diameter. Is there somewhere I can get replacement wheels (without traction tyres) or plastic cogs? I guess at a push, I could glue the cogs and perhaps file off the lip keeping the traction tyre in place? The only service sheet I found might not even be for the model I have (although it does look very similar). Thanks
  17. Is this the same with all 57xx? I think I have a 64xx, which runs okay but if changing to a 57xx means better reliability for only a few pounds difference, I might look at that.
  18. Kickstarter is pretty good. If the money required to fund the product isn't pledged, nobody is charged. If it gets funded, while you'll find it hard to get a refund, the 4 or 5 projects I've supported so far have been good. No way would I blindly pay money with no guarantee of a suitable product in return, nor refund. Maybe this is why DJM seems to get more flak than others?
  19. Thought this was worth quoting for future use. I saw loads of different versions and was confused on the differences for a moment!
  20. Interestingly, I listed an item yesterday that said I might be charged 35p if I didn't include "or best offer". Although it didn't say either way, whether I would or would not be charged, so I added it but set it to automatically reject offers that were more than 50p less the auction start price. Stupid. I completely lothe ebay but I only use it for the reach of people. Yet I'm finding more and more people will buy through Facebook, which is less complicated and has less restrictions.
  21. It seems Roco are re-releasing the DVT/Coach set. I've asked if anything has changed from the current, but low stock verson and this re-release. Luckily, I've been busy selling this week and now have about £200 - so half way there!
  22. And this is where an error has perhaps occurred. You did not watch and try and learn what he was doing, so if the problem occurs again, you will be back where you started. I understand if you don't think you can learn though. But did you try? Did you write things down as he was doing it? I haven't got a clue about cars and can barely understand the basics of electric and model motors. I just don't think my mind can understand it so haven't ever tried to learn it properly. However, computers - I am right up there
  23. If you "sleep" your PC, if you've allowed it to, the PC will turn on, download updates, then sleep again. Default settings allow this.
  24. Legomanbiffo sound here with a Zimo LS 55x22x09 speaker. I haven't been able to compare it with anything else in the real world, but it sounds fine. I would have looked at an EM2 but didn't fancy milling the loco. The Zimo speaker I have fits in very nicely.
  25. Not sure why the poll is closed (I've checked the end date - should end in July). Asked a Mod to take a look.
