  1. One more thing to add to Andy's message. Don't slice your thumb up with a scalpel whilst staying in!

  3. OK, now here's a mystery. What has happened to minced garlic on our supermarket shelves? You just can't find it anywhere these days. Just the inferior 'garlic granules', which are too small.

  4. Bachmann split chassis BR class 4 Driving wheels. Bought this mint looking, boxed, and second hand. had it for a good while now, in storge,ie not used, but once I got to testing, quartering was off by around 30 degrees, and three of the plastic centres were coned out, catching the rods, as is the norm with these. so she was badly limping. During wheel removal for curing the usual plastic insert problems,I've discovered destroyed motion mounting threads. It looks like the previous owner has replaced the axles in the wrong order, then forced the screws where they shouldn't fit, and it also looks like he's glued some of the others into badly sloppy holes. Otherwise she's fine !!!

It wasn't at all obvious until stripdown. I'd assumed bad quartering(The wheels twist in the hollow axles anyway) and once the plastic hubs were repaired she would be easily rectified. I now need a replacement driving wheel set, and probably new motion to wheelset mounting screws.Problem is -  where to get a set from. Can't seem to find any. Ideas guys?

  7. More than £100 later and we have now had the £1 charity shop CD extracted from the CD player in CTMK's car. I'm now playing it as I type this, some rather lovely Handel baroque music that I haven't heard before. But I wish it hadn't decided to bug*er up the car CD player.

  10. The BBC news website has an article on the Dyatlov Pass incident. Slow news day? God their reporters must be so bored if this is considered news. It happened 60 years ago!

  11. Hello there my name is Brian finn I'm know to some on YouTube as Finnerton Central, I've just found your web site in this month's BRM magazine and would like to give my thanks for winning the class 121 at warley as part of the raffle prize draw on the BRM stand.

Thanks again it was a big shock .

  12. Wasn't expecting a new Grandson today! Baby Arthur born a month early at 5lbs 1oz. Mum and baby doing well.

  13. Interviewer: Mr Simpson, you've promised to build a new layout. So let me ask you again: when are you going to deliver what you've promised?

Me: Well, I want to do it.  But let's get Brexit done first...

i can’t find the ‘make a gallery’ button

  15. Wondering why "view unread content"  will only show the last 32 minutes worth with no option to load more whilst on Firefox but can see lots of entries and the "load more" button whilst using IE11. Also, cannot enter any status info on Firefox but can on IE11. Weird!

  16. I  have two tender kits that I wish to sell but I can't advertise the kits on RMweb.

  17. There now follows a review of the lavatorial facilities on a Class 800 'Abominator':

The location of the lavatory paper dispenser is almost at floor level.  This is not satisfactory for a gentleman who wishes to urinate standing up.

The water outlet above the wash hand basin shows a marked disinclination to operate within acceptable timescales.

The adjacent 'hot air' outlet is weak, ineffectual except over unrealistically lengthy timescales and shows a poor standard of character.

The curved sliding door occasionally needs help from guests to fully close.

    Review ends.

For those that may have missed my original note, which only appeared as a response, I'll repeat my posting in respect of Mike Sharman, who sadly passed away on 12th September.

Mike was well-known for his astounding scratch built  models of early locomotives and as the maker of  an extensive range of fine-scale driving wheels, without which many model locomotives would never have been built .

I'll post a fuller obituary in the next few days. Any queries, please contact me via direct e-mail <iainarice@gmail.com> or phone 01837 861234
