  1. Thanks for the informative reply, Marc! Very interesting. If anyone has any recdomendations on any books on the subject, please let me know.
  2. My question relates to private owner wagons of the era 1920's through to 40's and how things worked with regard to say a coal or coke wagon with the owner's name on the side. Did the wagon carry coal for that particular wagons owner all of the time? Was the wagon leased from the owner to other wagon owners? Who was responsible for the maintenance of the wagons? DId these wagons stray far from the geographical area displayed on the side? Are there any parallels with regards to owners of today's modern wagon fleets like Naco etc?
  3. Yep, found it! Thanks for the heads up.
  4. What stockists have them? I'm having trouble finding any with the Sherman included.
  5. If anything, DCC is actually easier to build, opertate and maintain than DC on so many levels. I think that anyone stuck in the 1900's with DC operation is doing themselves out of a whole new world of opperational excitement and possibilities when it comes to running their trains. Having a 3 or 4 locomotive consist on a heavy freight and being able to separate the engines sound completely from its motion is a sight and sound to behold. Best investment I ever made. Each to their own I guess.

  8. Funnily enough, an 802 left Plymouth in the London direction just after dinner time on Thursday Ironically "escaping" all the tide and snow-related problems by just 3 or 4 hours!! Its as if it was saying "I gota get outa here!"

Here's another from the same seller that gave me chuckle. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-STEAM-LOCOMOTIVE-00-GUAGE-BA-32-202A-CLASS-8750-PANNIER-9753-MINT/273084987420?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D43781%26meid%3D03b395fd964242a48cb0274eae2171b8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D273082194730%26itm%3D273084987420&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 He did manage to get one of them in some sort of focus though.

You have to hand it to these EE folk. Thousands of acres of Daffs and vegetable land in Cornwall near Hayle and Cambourne. I often see them bent over in fields cutting and picking in driving rain and wind and up to their ankles in mud. There was an experiment carried out recently when a dozen young UK students worked along side the EE's for the day, I'm not sure if it made national TV or not but it was covered locally. Suffice to say, the job nearly killed them and they all addmitted that they couidn't stick it after one day!

There's been a lot of bad PR lately on these so called "Fulfillment Centres". Undercover folk going in and recording their staff being treated like robots and generally like utter s*** Seems like the way of the world now, unfortunately.

Indeed, John. Certainly, the only 2 items in there that caught my eye! As you say, about a quid for the pair.

Isnt it nice to see this seller has gone to great lengths and taken their time to lay out all the items for sale in a tidy fashion. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOB-LOT-OF-TRIANG-Hornby-MODEL-RAILWAYS-TRACK-AND-BUILDING-TRAINS-ETC/112821658972?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D43781%26meid%3D85caf986861648cd91a5d3e0f2fc6439%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D152895446188%26itm%3D112821658972&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Ya know, I do get the feeling that the words "custom" and "weathered" are somewhat abused by a certain minority of ebay sellers lately! As soon as I see those 2 words in the description, I just know its going to be bad!
  18. IIRC, didn't Pelle Soeborg use ME switches and plain line on his layouts? Train Life in the U.S have just bought and imported his last layout, I'm sure they would gladly email you some pics, they're a very helpfull bunch of guys!! I have also seen some video's on his last build that are on YT, just before he took it down.
  19. You mentioned the single lamp iron on 421, Jim. If you use a flashing tail lamp, does it have to be on the driver's side as you look at the loco then? Or was it the issue of getting down onto the track to fit it? I notice there's not one grab rail on the nose either!!
  20. I sold my 081 today with a heavy heart but it just didn't fit in with an HO scale layout! It has gone to someone who will hopefully get some use from it. I fear however, resistance is futile, I will be back one day!
  21. When you say centre, is that the centre of each of the origonal headcode box's? I'm just wondering how you arrived at the spacing of the marker lights? Whatever method you used, it looks bang on!! Very nice and I m half tempted to do it myself if and when I get one.

Indeed. With qaurtering like that, I dont think it'll be running anywhere!
  23. I did get the impression that the whole MMA set up was run on a shoe string with much penny-pinching and a 'just about making do' management culture whilst the guys on the ground struggled with worn out, hand me down junk! Whilst I'm glad that the engineer and his immediate colleuges were not thrown under the bus, I do think the 'officers' of MMA should have been prosecuted in some way or another. In some ways it reminds me of the way Railtrack was run leading up to our own catastrophes here.
  24. A very nice touch i noticed is the scrap piece of rail on the sleeper ends along side the class 22. You've perfectly accented the different rust colour where its been sat in the chairs! Never seen that modelled before with regards to the colouring, most impressive. Sometimes its the little things that make a big difference to realism. One tip I picked up years ago, have you tried an HB pencil on buffer heads to replicate grease??
