  1. Pedantic mode on, (sorry) American loco's don't have 'buckeye's' in the UK sense, they have knuckle couplers.
  2. S2 is turbo charged Pete, to give 1000 HP. S1 is naturally aspirated.
  3. And at 90 ton on 4 axles, it'll give their bullhead fishplates some grief aswel I'd imagine!
  4. I cant for the life of me work out what's going on there either! That looks like a 20 mph ladder from where im sitting. I believe what its actually saying is that IF you are joining the road in the centre of the picture via the crossover, you are between the commencement and termination of the ESR on that road. Its a grey area though. Ive put up a few ESR boards in my career but that one has me scratching my head! Thinking about it another way, if a train was to join that line (second from left) via the 20 mph crossover, how else could it be signed to tell the driver he was entering an ESR of 30 over 50??

    EBay madness

Thing is, whilst there will always be muppets out there willing to pay that amount for rubbish, these rip-off merchants will continue to sell it for such amounts!
  6. How much time in the chair is that round trip Jim? landor st-ratcliffe-landor st
  7. That's the Ivory towers! Was gona say something else.
  8. The horns are certainly on a par with QSI Jordan, Oh yeah, I forgot you do 0 scale, could be expensive
  9. A version 4 Loksound will totally blow you away. If you thought Tsunami's had good engine sounds, your really in for a treat with a Loksound. My first ESU was an Intermountain SD40-2 with factory fitted ESU Loksound and Ive just got (well about 3 months ago now) an Atlas S2 switcher, again with factory fitted ESU Loksound. It is just fantastic and probably the most realistic model engine sound Ive ever heard and believe me, Ive heard a few! I also read a lot of how an ESU decoder controls the motor and again it impresses in that aspect as well. There is a delay of movement when speed step 1 is selected, the engine note rises before the model starts to move just like the real thing, they are simply gorgeous!! All of the above was seen 'out of the box' without messing with any CV's except for the address! Would I change out about a dozen Tsunami's for Loksound decoders? If I could afford to, yes, I'd do it tomorrow. Don't take much notice of video's on these sound decoders on youtube and the like as they just don't do them justice, you have to be there to appreciate how good they sound.
  10. Try not to let it bother you to much, I have weeks and weeks like that! Infact, after having a total model railroad no can do attitude all summer and most of last winter, ive only just managed to make some progress and actually 'want' to be there in the last couple of days! Happens to us all at some stage I think.
  11. No, I meant the 60 versus the 70 Mike. A class 60 would knock a 66 into a cocked hat any day of the week as we well know! But its an unfair comparison anyway. I think a 59 would be another interesting test over the same grade aswel! Ive heard it said a few times from engineman in the U.S that "a GE will surprise you with what it will pull" and I suspect they moved that technology over to the 70 in some aspects where they could cram it in- AC traction motors being one big plus for low down grunt!
  12. Holy smokes!! That is some difference and a very interesting post Jim. As you say, I reckon the ultimate comparison would be with a 60 but although it has high starting TE, the higher HP of the 70 should make it easily superior again. Hatton bank is 1:110 apparently so not to be sniffed at with a heavy drag. http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/hattonbank.htm
  13. I was next door to that compound in the wee small hours of Thursday morning to drop off pallets of new "Holdfast" rubber crossing units. These will make up a new road railer on and off tracking point at the top of that ramp by the footbridge apparently.
  14. Just idle curiosity Jim, any idea how many sleepers they get on one of those flats??
  15. Ah right, I thought it was a single jib crane like this one- http://www.ontrackplant.com/otp/81517 Bit far away to see properly. We always slanged them as 'Tram's' down this way.
  16. I think its a good thing that the trams seem to be making a comeback!! Bit of a pain to be restricted to 45 MPH though, being harder to path etc.
  17. Always a pleasure to see your photo's on the forum! Excellent stuff Kevin!
  18. The driver in the DVT looks be thinking, ""is that driver taking a pic of my train!??"" Good pictures Jim, as usual.
  19. If you squint really hard, it could be GW green Mike!!
  20. The only two tone green one was 50044 which was painted whilst its been preserved as a 'fictitious' one off, about 7 years ago I think. Not 100% certain about the date it was painted as I don't have much interest in fictitious livery's myself. They were all delivered from EE in all over BR blue and full yellow ends and D numbers.
  21. Its the complete opposite for me, but probably because the first time I saw one was at Castle Cary in 1978.
