  1. German made small streamlined clockwork locomotives by Bub, Distler and Dressler running in the garden Regards Fred
  2. Apparently in Australia the gauge/scale terminology is good, I would be happy to know how that is done in simple wording. Gauge/scale terminology is certainly is not only in the UK a mess. It is also a mess in Europe and the USA (see the EU MOROP and USA NMRA standards if you want to be confused). Regards Fred My e-book: http://sncf231e.nl/gauge-and-scale/
  3. Old controllers for the old trains and new controllers for the new trains: And this one of course: Regards Fred
  4. RivaRossi Royal Scot ( from set no 312) versus Hornby LMS compound (R355): RivaRossi never mentioned scale (for none of their models), they only mentioned gauge. Regards Fred
  5. Interesting question. The same question could be asked about British N, TT, 0 and 1 gauge. For some reason the correct scale/gauge combination seems not to be of interest in the UK. See my e-book on gauge and scale: http://sncf231e.nl/gauge-and-scale/ Regards Fred
  6. There were not many tinplate trains made for the Dutch market. BUB made in the fifties a clockwork trainset with a "model"of a Dutch electric locomotive and Dutch passenger cars. The locomotive has a long running clockwork mechanism: Regards Fred
  7. Cold and windy but the Stirling Single (made from an ASTER kit) with its train of four GNR 3-axle coaches (by J&M Models) had a good run this afternoon: Regards Fred
  8. As far as I know only parts for models made after 2005 are still available. BTW: The company name is RivaRossi. Regards Fred
  9. Nifty devices? Just a boiler with water and a burner: Regards Fred
  10. My Roundhouse Shay, that I built many many years ago, did not run when I recently tried. The Delrin part on the motorshaft was split, so I made a new part from brass. Now it runs again (sort of) and I made a video of the Shay and a RivaRossi Heisler: Regards Fred
  11. "K4 Pacific" from the album "The Age of Steam" by Gerry Mulligan Regards Fred
  12. I tried to do that myself and found out it is not very do-able, certainly not when trying to do this "Worldwide". My conclusions are layed down in my e-book on Gauge and Scale (free to download): http://sncf231e.nl/gauge-and-scale/ Regards Fred
  13. The overview was lost on RMWEB, so now I have put the overview on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/The-Night-Ferry-sleeper-modelled.pdf Regards Fred
  14. The "How much do you spend" was also much too low and I am not spending too much! Regards Fred
  15. As said, the consist Märklin/Trix announced for the CIWL Edelweiss train is wrong. But it is not ugly, I think, so I ran a train consist like they announced in 0 gauge in the garden today: Regards Fred
  16. Märklin added two blue CIWL "fourgon" (baggage cars). The real Edelweiss never had CIWL fourgons but green baggage cars of the NS (Dutch) and the AL (French) Railway. The number of Pullman cars was generally three, but if four it would not include a Cote d'Azur WP (7 window Pullman car without kitchen) but a Fleche d'Or type WP ( 8 window Pullman car without kitchen). A better (3 Pullman car) consist here: Regards Fred
  17. They look good, but the consist is wrong (Märklin/Trix is not very good in CIWL history). Regards Fred
  18. That is a standard method with this seller. He posts just a couple of pictures and no description, so it is a gamble. I today received from him a Märklin H0 clockwork train and it turns out to run very well. Regards Fred
  19. Be patient, it is a large .pdf. https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:da387ca8-2210-3100-99dd-fff374257bb0 Regards Fred
  20. The Streamlined New York Central Commodore Vanderbilt locomotive, known as CV, was an inspiration for many toy and model makers. This video shows some Commodore Vanderbilt locomotives from my collection Regards Fred
  21. Less detail is no problem as long as there is more color Regards Fred
