    “O gauge”

Is that not the HO one? The O gauge model was loco driven, HO being tender drive.

Was that painted by KR models?

  2. When we bought the intellectual property of a competitor that had gone bust, it came with the customer database. However -

As explained above, GDPR makes very clear that, in order for a purchaser to rely on consent to use personal data in an acquired customer database for marketing purposes, the purchaser must have been specifically named at the time that data subjects gave their consent.

We kept it as with the nature of our work data has to be retained for a minimum of 40 years, and in some cases permanently - so we are continuing the extinct company's duties as it were. We have had a few of their clients contact us with regard the work that was done for them, in which case we then request a new agreement, but we are very careful not to use any of it for marketing purposes.

Yeh I can see it's very well used. Mine's a new one. I had a proper wedge shaped one before but I used it to death it literarily fell apart.

This is the new one when it was brand new

It's a bit battered now of course.

I wouldn't be without one I can't see how anyone can work without one either.

    Regards Lez.

Interesting. Not a tool I am familiar with - what is its purpose please and do you have some more photos of it in use so i can get my head round it?

    thanks :)

So does this mean that all decoders should work in the range 8.5v to 22v despite being informed by Accurascale that ESU v5 decoders require a minimum of 14v?

The spec I linked to says a decoder should be able to interpret (so by omission, not actually work) a packet received at the minimum voltage, and it should be able to operate without any damage when the max voltage is received, so no.

All I can add to this topic, is that I had an issue with my AS (sound fitted) Manor’s keep alive not working. After some very quick and attentive email exchanges with AS tech support to try altering various CVs, it was agreed I should return the loco to them for inspection. Got it back a few weeks later with no difference in keep alive performance. AS tech support suggested that my DCC controller was not kicking out enough volts. Apparently ESU v5 decoders require a minimum of 14v preferably 15v. My Gaugemaster Prodigy Express shows 13.1v at the rails (DCC Concepts Alpha meter). Therefore the capacitors are not charging. Curiously though, the stay alive on my SF AS37 seems to work fine with the Prodigy Express.

I discussed this with a respected DCC systems retailer who opined that 14v minimum reason for the Manor’s keep alive not working stated by AS tech support was, er, not correct.

My knowledge on the subject is limited, so happy to be corrected.

NMRA says nominal voltage for HO is 15v.

Thanks again for reporting the problematic content you found.

We looked into your report and removed the content. It may take up to 24 hours for it to reflect on the site.  This determination was made by a customer service agent.

It wasn't model railway related but automotive - the old chestnut of "If you bid you will receive a wheelnut" - with the rest of the ad saying they want to buy wrecks.

Depends on the buffer type to be honest. The OLEO ones are still somewhat current on the network so can be overhauled, but at a somewhat exorbitant cost. Unfortunately we are finding that some types can not be overhauled now.  Wheel sets if a suitable size can be machined down to a good profile, but obviosuly there comes a point where the wheelset becomes scrap. They can however can be overhauled, but the cost of it is eye watering. One of our brake vans sustained damage to its wheel sets, and the overhauller had to change the wheelset to be monobloc (all one piece of metal including the tyre) to a tyred wheelset! The tyres I think ended up coming from South Africa!

    Thank you :)

I have heard South Africa mentioned previously as one of the few sources of tyres.

Does anyone know a good source of turned buffer heads 13 inch?

Wsnt to get a few to detail moulded buffer body kits.

    MJT out of stock.

    Need 8 at moment

Give Dart (MJT) a shout - I believe they DO have them but have a manufacturing issue where the shoulder should be 90 degrees but have been made with a slight taper.

  9. I am slowly building up stocks of new old stock electrofrog Peco code 75 streamline points and crossings for fiddle yard use. Like you I also intend to use bullhead for the scenic section.

I've gone with electrofrog as they crop up regularly for a good price and whilst are a little more complex to install, *should* be more reliable when used with a reliable point motor/switch. At the moment I am considering the current version of DCC Concepts one (the early batch has some issues which I understand have been resolved).

Have you listened to the conversation they are having from where ive set the video? its 90% about Accurascales model current usage and only at the end does Pete conclude the other manufactures will head down the same route, its coming up time and time again that track voltage and current are crucial to good running, thats why its here.

Ok watched it for longer this time. The first while is them going on about men of their age not going away for too long.

    £8000?!

I do like that - not surprised it is in Bath as that was the first area that came to mind seeing it.

Is it worth £8k? Nope. £1k maybe for someone who REALLY wants it.

I need to get some solder paste or paint, for two types of jobs, laminating, and detail adding, such as lamp irons and foot steps.

Any recommendations please, just spent  an hour cleaning my 0-4-4T

Carrs 179 works well for me. I predominantly use paste with my  RSU but I do also use it for the purposes you are looking for with a normal iron. Available from Phoenix who I believe own the brand, and Hobby Holidays. Probably others as well.
