  1. US Navy pilots (the US Navy being the second largest air force in the world, after the US Air Force)
  2. aye (and a quick check shows it's a sandpit and not a quarry)
  3. when the lorry three vehicles ahead decides to jump the red temporary traffic light as the quarry he's driving to is halfway through the roadworks... but hasn't spotted that the car two vehicles ahead was a police car...
  4. Apart from the variations which mean SunCalc suggests that it was April 5th this year... people seem to forget that it actually lines up with the rising sun TWICE a year... what if there's something significant about Sept 8th (for 2017)??
  5. monorail!! and because you can't have a monorail without this... so, we've had two rails, one rail... how about something third rail??
  6. So, a ferry in Sydney being named 'Ferry McFerryface' in a public poll.... wonder if the guy who came up with the Boaty name in the first place had any idea at what he would unleash... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-41977459
  7. The KiwiRail EF class is another Bo-Bo-Bo locomotive, though only maxes out at 105kph, it is 20m long and manages the 151m radius horseshoe bend on the Raurmu Spiral on the North Island Trunk Line.
  8. reminded me of a video I saw earlier this week on another forum of drone action around a train in the US...
  9. though I can't find the article online, so can't be 100% on the story... but I did remember that line
  10. My paper today had a story where the passenger was held to be at fault after sticking her hand in closing doors expecting them to open (as lift doors do), and then got dragged ~15m by the train.
  11. I misread that the first time round and thought you meant the HST was also pulling MGR hoppers and was about to ask if there were any photos of that, if only for the 'Prototype For Everything' thread... and then I put my reading glasses on properly!
  12. a view familiar to many I suspect... how about something from somewhere at the end of the line, in Cumbria??
  13. Thinks of the large automated model railways (such as Minitur Wunderland in Hamburg) where all the trains (and indeed cars, boats & planes) are run automatically with minimal manual input from "real" people...
  14. ha!! if only I hadn't already used this photo earlier!!
  15. finished in the 2000s how about something else in blue... or you know, 2010s because people for some reason seem to like the consecutive themes... both if you have one.
  16. The Makatote Viaduct on the North Island trunk route in New Zealand
  17. Duchess of Sutherland climbing Shap how about a LMS loco, but in an LMS livery?
  18. how about former 4 rail stock, now converted to 3 rail?? as we've not had an electric locomotive, how about one of those?
  19. green coaches (plus trees), on 'Die Dreimuhletalbahn' at the 2006 Warley show (I think) I will admit, I have always been fascinated by fiddle yards... so may we have one of those next?
  20. Train and car - Red Hook Bay how about a train & a bus... but no bridges!
  21. a few red locos (and some case full trains) 66185 about to cut through York Station, from the observation balcony at the NRM 325007 at Crewe awaiting a green light to continue southwards still at Crewe, 45699 Galatea, having stopped for water on her way back to Carnforth
  22. a SWT 450 in their blue livery at Pirbright Junction
  23. I did put an adverse camber on my big helix. I did have an issue with my class 103 electric (a CoCo), that despite being heavy, and with a good pulling power, it couldn't haul anything (literally, nothing) up the helix. I think the adverse camber was causing the loco to just rise up onto only the middle axles of the two bogies, causing a loss of pulling power. But on the shorter spiral I didn't put any shims in leaving the track flat and it has no problems going up. I am as yet undecided whether to only run the 103 in one direction, or to try to pull out all the glued shims over 4 1/2 loops of helix so I can run it in both directions. We live and learn!
  24. I wonder if Colas Rail pulling Network Rail test train counts?? 'Charlotte' (with 'Stella' on the other end) in Sheffield and whilst waiting for 'Duchess of Sutherland' on Shap, DRS' 'Lady Penelope' headed south with the Northern Belle stock
