  1. Well, it was a design that they had requested, and the team who'd built it were several miles away by then, busy laying track. Yeah, I also though a man in a canoe would have been a useful addition, or even an open canoe so Dick could have travelled by water as well... staying in contact with the boat and making use of his life jacket. Something that Jenny (or any of the other volunteers might be able to answer), I did wonder how much practice/preparation the crews got in laying the track before hand, or what detailed planning of the route was done before hand.
  2. Well, I've greatly enjoyed the shows so far... certainly the greatest Biggest Littlest Railway... loved the 60m viaduct!
  3. technically I model the eras late crest/pre TOPS, though being German it's more Epoch III with occasional Epoch IV...
  4. The BBC are now reporting that the fire is being treated as arson.
  5. I was just thinking Rhazuns looked pretty so had a look at it on google maps... discovered they'd sent a Google Train through there...
  6. According to sciencing.com However, also being a potent greenhouse gas means that it is a major factor in climate change...
  7. Apparently they were easier to include, than to remove the puffins that cover the islands where they were filming, digitally.
  8. anyhow, it's been 24hrs so it's a Wildcard time! Here's one from my 'being built' layout can we have one of your layout, being built?
  9. as the white square goes on the player's near, right corner, I'm amused to see they failed to the draughts/chess board in the right way...
  10. I think the problem was you didn't give what topic you'd like the next photo to be... and as the previous one had been a 'wildcard' this was carried over (as has been the case in the 'and the next photo will have (real railway)' thread. Hence newbryford asking you what you wanted "next?", but NorthBrit assuming he was asking for the next photo.
  11. The Ashland camera is a favourite of mine, though I do recall one morning where there was a derailment in the yard to the south and a +100 coal hopper slowly rolled into town, and instead of stopping short of the town, or even at the station, rolled into the town, bisected the town blocking the two main crossings in town. It then sat there for nearly 2 1/2hrs.
  12. Well, if we're still doing night time, this is an early visit to Woking for Tornado
  13. 66754 spending a few hours in the wee small hours of the morning sat at High Wycombe station. some more nighttime shot please
  14. though with such low numbers in use, a single unit will give a large percentage. I own two identical cameras. One broke recently, which left me with a 50% unavailability... a terrible statistic... what is it they say about statistics...
  15. The World's End how about an express passenger, preferably at full chat?
  16. Last time I drove through the Peaks I was high impressed/terrified at the speed some of the Lomas Distribution hgvs were driving... honestly felt like I was holding them up...
  17. Clan Line pulling the VSOE through Woking, Jan 2013
  18. There was a photo from Wales on the BBC website today with the caption "a snow stick shows 20cm of fall in the Brecon Beacons"... though if you looked at the photo, the snow stick was obviously in inches and was showing 8" of fall!

    WTF

Can you return unused paint?? Buy the two, take them to the car, then return one and see if they refund you the £18 for one tin of paint...

    WTF

I can't think of any situation where an extra packet of biscuits is ever a bad thing...
  21. They don't even make a Haynes manual for my car... working on my first two cars (Hyundai Pony/Ford Focus) was a bit more reassuring when I had a book telling me how to put bits back together again...
  22. wasn't there a thing on Watch Dog years ago where they found it was cheaper to buy a new car over in the Netherlands, even ordering it in right hand drive, and then bringing it back?
  23. So basically the SWMBO has given you permission to build a layout... and once the inevitable complaints about the (apparent) waste of time/space/money you can just point to the gifted "trainset" and say, 'but I thought you wanted me to do this...'
  24. remembers that Top Gear episode where they moved Hammond's Dodge Challenger from the carpark into the street whilst he was having breakfast thanks to keyless technology... that was 2008...
  25. good =/= indestructible... I wear similar boots and I tend to wear the sole away* long before the uppers get worn. Does remind me that I'm needing to replace the ones I'm wearing now have almost no lugs left. * - over about a year of daily wear
