  1. Cheers James, yes that article along with another 'certain' thread about Class 31's will be very useful!
  2. Works a treat Excellent nameplates by the way!
  3. Bore da With the 'worst' of the house move now over, and a sense of normality returning, while unpacking some boxes I came across these 3 locos which have been on my 'to-do' list for ages. First up is an old Lima Class 31, 31455 'Our Eli' in Regional Railways livery [one of my favourite liveries] which I'm tempted to detail and repaint to represent 31327. Second is Bachmann Class 37, 37678, which again I'd like to detail and weather [but leave in the factory applied Red Stripe livery]. I need to obtain suitable detailing parts from somewhere as I don't have the original Bachmann items. Third is my Bachmann 08 that I've already repainted and detailed once. I can't decide if I'm happy with the weathering and having read the 08 masterclass in the recent MR, I'm tempted to redo it completely. Now I've found these models, the next task is to negotiate a suitable modelling area and set things up - easier said than done!
  4. is packing up all his models - hope they don't get damaged

Layout is still in my parents house, it's never moved from there!

that makes life easier, sold or dismantled layouts before moving, tho we were going 330+miles

  5. Just by way of showing my progress, here's a photo of my Lima Class 33 so far although the glazing still hasn't been completed. Still needs some more weathering too. BTW this photo was also shown on my Talerddig thread so it's nothing new [sorry]. Can anyone recommend the best method for removing weathering powders from a loco body? Having seen the 08 article in MR I'm really tempted to revisit mine but I'd beed to strip it down first. Failing that, what's the best method for removing car aerosol paint?
  6. Managed to completely repaint two rooms this weekend - only another 5 to go...

  7. Painting models is more fun than painting rooms!

Nothing that you'd ever see on a train!

  8. Really interesting idea and looks great! I was tempted by the photo of King's Lynn depot myself but managed to resist temptation! It did inspire me to construct some depot style buildings so maybe I didn't totally resist! Looking forawrd to further progress.
  9. I'll be interested to see how your 'brickwork' turns out - it certainly looks good so far.

      can you afford a layout?

  11. Yeah I agree, the wheels look awful - I see why they are nicknamed pizza cutters! Having said that though, I have no plans to replace them at the moment - funds are running low and I can live with them for the time being.
  12. Hello Just a few progress shots of my Lima Class 33. As you can see I've made a start on glazing using clear plastic [taken from packaging] individually cut to shape. I've also made a start on applying a bit more weathering but it's not really that visible in the photos.
  13. Thanks James! I think the work done to the front windows was well worth the effort and was the biggest improvement I made to the model in terms of appearance - just got to do the boring bit now of actually glazing it!
  14. Hooray - it's Friday tomorrow

  15. Received the nameplates to complete my Critter today. They are by Narrow Planet and they are exquisite - I can't recommend them enough [no connection, just a very pleased customer]. After a quick spray of red aerosol and a light sanding with a fine sanding stick to reveal the lettering they are complete. While I had my camera out I also took a picture of my Class 33 with markings and a start on weathering. I always struggle when it comes to weathering locos - I just can't seem to get it quite right. If nothing else, I hope it shows that the Lima model can be ok with a bit of basic work.
  16. Looks good - I think the weathering is spot on, especially the underframe
  17. The 9F looks brilliant, the rusting looks spot on! Any more pics?
  18. Some progress finally with my Lima Class 33. I resprayed the ends using Halfords spray paint because I wasn't happy with the patchy finish I'd achieved first time around. The blue I mixed myself, like I've said before, it may not be 100% accurate but it's a shade I'm happier with.
  19. Why is work so boring?

    1. James

      James

My job's not boring - Saturday night saw scores of 'ravers' passing over the crossing and Police following them to move them on! Oh yeah, and plenty of trains going by! :D

  20. I know it's been said before but the interior of the shed is awesome! Are all the little details scratchbuilt?
  21. Looks great! Cambrian do make great kits - well worth the extra effort. The Cambrian 'Shark' brake van was one of the first kits I really wanted, still have it somewhere. Looking forward to seeing them weathered!
  22. Can't believe it's 14:43 already

  23. Hi Stu, sorry I missed this post and your questions - I haven't checked this thread for a while. All my wagons are/will be fitted with Smiths couplings, I just never seem to get round to fitting them for a while - usually way after I've built and painted the wagon! As to the Class 33, I haven't really decided where I'm going with it from the point it's at now. Not sure whether to add any more details or just get it painted!
  24. Lovely stuff. The weathering around the fuel point is particularly convincing. Out of interest, is the fuel point canopy scratchbuilt?
