  1. ZZYZX Rd? Well, in Kentucky, how about: "Lick" is another name for creek or stream.
  2. Thread drift, I love it! Insulators (vaguely related to smart meters): Telephones: And, of course, trains: O: HO:
  3. I am not sure. He did remove and replace the new meter several times, though. Bear in mind that it was a college student hired for the purpose and not a meter technician and probably did not know more than the basics of what he was doing. Anyway, he did let me have the old meter seal for my collection and "accidentally" dropped a new, unused one that he "forgot" to retrieve on his way to the next replacement. So far the new meter seems to be working well, my bills have remained consistent with the old meter's billing.
  4. Horses make the beer for Budweiser; why do you think that A-B has so many of those Clydedales?
  5. Back on 02nov16 Duke Energy replaced my mechanical meter with a smart meter. Honestly, I have seen absolutely no change in my bills during the past two and a half years. Here are a few photos of the process: Old meter: New meters arriving (note that they are about a quarter of the weight of the mechanical ones): The back side of a US (standardized throughout the US and Canada, btw) meter: Meter socket: Smart meter installed: Note that I collect electric meters and asked if I could have the old one; no soap as it had to be returned. A couple of my older ones, note that the Westinghouse OB (reads 20 KWH) on the left now shows a little over half a megawatt of consumption as I have several different seasonal items plugged into it. The GE I-14 (reads 60 KWH) on the right is a self-contained table lamp with no other connections. The 18watt LED bulb that is in the lamp sure does not smoke the bearings of the rotor! I do like to talk about my other hobbies but enough for now before I bore anyone to tears!
  6. I hope that he is able to receive it in person. A model railroad friend of mine (now deceased) was a survivor of the Bataan Death March; luckily for us, he was more that willing to talk to us about his experiences both on the March and his work in captivity at the copper mines in Ashio. He did make the statement that (at Ashio, anyway) the pows were not really maltreated as the commandant was wise enough to realize that weak/sick prisoners could not meet "production" levels. Because they met assigned "levels", they usually got better rations. Very interesting stories he told, we would sit there listening and completely forgetting the trains!.
  7. My answer to that" "None of your business!"
  8. For someone on the western shore of the Atlantic, what is/was the "Truck Act"? TIA
  9. It happened to me last night and, after mulling it over all night (sleep was hard to come by), I decided to uninstall Firefox and re-install it in the morning. It did not work (I could not download FF) at that time; about fifteen minutes later, I then saw the banner stating that fixes will be pushed out asap. GRRRR! I will wait until tomorrow and try to re-install FF. Note that I was on the beta test program and would get the "latest-and-greatest" updates before the regular release. I thought that the problem might have been related to the beta test and that was why I did the uninstall. Another note: I am (temporarily, anyway) using Internet Exploder until this mess gets straightened out. I much prefer Firefox!! The only reason that I noticed the problem at first was some ads showing up on a forum page where no ads ever did before; AdBlocker+ was one of the major casualties on my machine; that and Flagfox were the two main reasons that I noticed anything.
  10. Replace "VB" with "Anheuser-Busch" and you have described the U.S. beer market.
  11. The one above looks photo-manipulated, might not be but sure looks like it is. This one is real; it was removed a few years ago when the bridge in the backround was replaced.
  12. U. S. Naval Detachment Souda Bay, Crete 1972:
  13. I have seen it here; but, oh, those oil cans that they pack it in! Not for me. Now, for the worst beer that I have ever had, the Fitzgerald: Steam Whistle (from Toronto) on the other hand is one of the best that I have had.
  14. I am glad that it was a three-lane road!:
  15. Very nice work on the ex-Atlas WDT critter. While dredging in one of my sheds last week, I found nine! of them. I later remembered that I had bought a few for a conversion project. I had planned on using the drives to make a C+C boxcab electric similar to what the New Haven, Milwaukee, and others had but, like the plans of mice and men, my plans Gang aft a-gley! I hope that you soon get the driver quartering straightened out.
  16. Do you have those photos on your computer? If not, download them while/if you can to save them.
  17. Please post a few photos of the finished display at the show; a trip to the UK to see it is beyond my means!
  18. Odd timing, Yesterday I was just reading (Berlin Diary by William Shirer) about the "second signing" on June 21, 1940. The original car was moved to Berlin and later destroyed in an Allied bombing raid. Anyway, nice representation of the current memorial; the Germans destroyed some of the originals.
  19. Now I see what you meant by large buffers in answer to my previous comment. I had thought that they would have all been of a standard size.
