  1. I don’t think they’re meant to be that way up...
  2. i might have to go find that now ah yes I remember seeing this one on TV. I prefer the red and black colour scheme the TCDD did with them, like the two surviving examples still in Turkey. yeah 48305 is still there. So is 45305, which I still find funny.
  3. Where would the railways be without good old 08s?
  4. That layout is massive! Such craftsmanship. I wish I had the space for that looking forward to the video of it.
  5. An actual Kreigslok in Britain? Wow that must have looked Awesome. i know of the TCDD 8Fs that came back home. One living near me is at Ruddington in LMS livery (and a rather out of place looking speedometer, might I add)
  6. The main colours of Castle Rock Colliery are mainly red with yellow lining. Locomotives often wore Wasp Stripes too. The colliery was never absorbed by the NCB and ran until the 1940s. A W4 Peckett loco was abandoned in the engine sheds since nobody bought it when the colliery closed down. The little 0-4-0 was eventually barricaded inside the shed by a fallen tree until volunteers came to restore the colliery. The loco wasn’t in too bad shape despite where it was left and was returned to steam only four years later. The loco has never left the colliery’s boundaries since it was brought there fresh from the works in 1890. Heres a coloured in outline I found of a W4 as a basis when I model the loco. I hope the creator of this outline is ok with me using it.
  7. The ground level photos of this layout are stunning. I could only dream of having a layout that could create such an atmosphere!
  8. I tried to give my 4F the look of a loco that’s been sat in the corner for years.
  9. The layout is looking great! I can almost smell the diesel fumes
  10. Going to a model exhibition next weekend, bringing a wheelbarrow in case there’s second hand stuff to buy. I can also get the Southern coaches up too and see what has to be done to restore them. They’re the same coaches from my childhood and, as some of the models can show, I was not very careful with them. I don’t think they’ll ever get a long layout to run on and my sidings layout is too small, therefore they will probably be stuck to living on a shelf for years. But that’s got to be better than having spent probably a decade in their boxes hidden away under other model kits.
  11. Much like what Mattc6911 said; do what must be done to fit the Sidings in place. Take over the next door’s garage if you must, I’m sure they won’t mind
  12. That engine looks so scary I’ve been trying to make a BR 52 in 7mm for my railway gun
  13. Once, this Lima engine had wheels and even a tender but now it is just a plastic shell... So I decided that, given it will never work as a locomotive again, I could use it as scenery for my layout project. I also used it as a good base to practice weathering. I’ve added rust and moss to the locomotive, but it needs a little bit more rust. At some point I’ll make new frames for it and prop it up on some sleepers to make it look like it had been stripped for parts in the past, before being forgotten in the corner of the sidings. Since Castle Rock has so many running locomotives this sad fate is more common than you’d think, with several tank engines and diesels left lying around the whole railway.
  14. Thanks very much for the help. I’ll get round to rusting it up some more ASAP
  15. Just gunna pop up here three years after the last guy... You’re a great painter, so I was wondering if you had any advice for a derelict or rusty look to a wagon/locomotive? I’ve experimented with a moss texture for my Lima 4F, which I think went pretty well but I’m not a very good painter. Here’s the loco as it is now, could you please advise anything that I could do with it? Thanks -PT14
  16. That top photo deserves to be put in a frame! especially if it’s a frame in an art gallery!
  17. HA!

i’ve figured out how to use the RMweb emotes!

    Now ‘XD’ is

      Fair enough.

i used to just use the classic XD whenever something was funny

  18. A locomotive in a sad condition but still better than the Avon Valley’s one! I experimented on moss textures that usually can be found on locos that stay still for very long periods of time. To the eye it doesn’t look as green as to the camera but I still think it looks ok. It’s based of memory, like most of my weathering examples are. I’ll make a new set of frames for it and maybe some dummy wheels (unless I can find an actual Lima 4F frame). Once my Castle Rock sidings layout is finished and attends its first event, this 4F will be set up on some sleepers and positioned at the right hand far corner of the sidings. Let me know what you think. Feedback is certainly something that I would like, since this is a first try so there is always room to improve! (And also most if not all of you are w a y more experienced at modelling and detailing than I am...) As I gain more second hand models, many will be condemned to the same fate as this 4F...
  19. I’d be happy on the footplate of a loco whatever the weather!
  20. Very artistic! The whole layout is brilliant too!
  21. Progress continues! Here’s a rough sketch of the internal frame and backboard, with words on it. It’s so rough that it’s just ramblings so far, with actual measurements not yet concluded. The materials needed are now here and work can begin. H O P E F U L L Y it will be done before christmas so that I can make a start on the shell of the building during the holidays, which hopefully means that I’ll get the diorama done by the start of next year.
