  1. I know how you feel about the colour - I went through a few variations building my model 'inspired' by Sagunto. I had photos of Ontinyent in the colour I wanted, but matching it to the model too some time. My first choice just had too much purple...
  2. Hornby have put both 4 and 6 pin conductive couplers on some their Electrotren (and probably other Hornby Int'l brands) models, and that was ten years ago. Pretty much all the Hornby Int'l locos and multiple units now have 21 pin DCC sockets. I guess their market research tells them OO modellers don't want these things......
  3. Popped everything back in today and I must say, it went together much easier than expected.....though I found that the previous owner decided to keep the horns! They are in stock at Roco so will get a couple ordered up as spares. Its now got a Lenz Std+V2 and is running very well. Ready to take its turn on the uphill drag from Sagunto to Teruel......
  4. Its been a little while since the decals were ordered, but they arrived last week and today I finally got round to trying them out and then a coat of Railmatch matt. I am quite happy so far - just need to remember how to put it back together! The transfer film on the decals appears more noticeable in the photos than on my desk!
  5. Hornby added an electrically operated roof fan on their Electrotren ALCo 321 in 2008 replacing the band operated fan used in the similar 316 and 318 classes. HO not OO, which is more challenging given their smaller physical size. (The Electrotren HO 316/318/321 classes are mechanically very similar models to the Hornby OO BR Class 31.) I would suggested that very few DCC users will bother to the run it with the fan on once the initial novelty has worn off............DC users don't have a choice! Its much better than a band drive, but still pretty pointless. Hornby appear to have chosen not to offer this on OO models when it is technically feasible.
  6. Not too much difference since last time as I am still awaiting my decals. I have painted the under frame and bogies with Humbrol 85, replaced the handrails and varnished the body.
  7. I know the subject of axle bearings is so last year, but I have recently been working on a Roco EMD J26CW/AC from about 2003 and thought the bearing arrangement may be of some interest to some although I realise most of you will have sorted the problem by now. (Edit for presentation)
  8. I had my wife write the email to him in perfect Spanish............. Decals are printed twice a month from the orders he receives. Mine will be done towards the end of June. At that point I would expect a PP invoice and on payment for them to be posted. All the website catalogue prices and UK postage of €8.50 are correct. I have ordered 8 sets and whether I ever get round to using them I don't know, but I'm fairly happy with my progress on the 319 above so I may renumber some of my other ones just to make them special......I've now refitted handrails and grills/vents to the 319 and it has received a coat of Railmatch gloss varnish. I await the decals........
  9. I have now finished the sides with Xtracolor 802. The two greys, roof and sides, are the RAL numbers used by Renfe but I couldn't quite match the yellow. Importantly though, the match to a Roco model is much closer than I thought possible............yes the yellow isn't quite right, but its close enough for me. Decals are on order from http://www.trenmilitaria.com/ and hopefully I'll have them soon. Before then I need to get a coat of Railmatch Gloss Varnish on which shouldn't be a problem as I've a weeks holiday starting today.
  10. Well after my false start and a return to the IPA bath, things have been going fine and I am now at a point where I will have to order decals.............it'll be a real bummer if they don't post to the UK! The roof is Humbrol 126 which matches what the roof apparently should be. Roco's 319.232/320/406 - the original three models have too dark a roof. (Edited for presentation)
  11. I've done the same and ordered up spares for conversions I want to do, but I don't think its really Hornby's fault that you can't modify an item and don't think they should be expected to carry spares such as bogies which don't wear out, unlike traction tyres and brushes.
  12. Got to ask......how have you managed to wreck/damage/loose 3 sets of bogies so that you need 3 replacement pairs from Hornby?
  13. Hi, If you're going to repaint it the maybe the Mabar Renfe 030 might do. Ref: 82200, 82201, 82202, 82203, 82204 and probably others. Similar to the Rivarossi 030 but a much more modern model but you would probably need to look at a continental retailer.
  14. I have been using this list - http://ftp.fcaf.cat/foro/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26408 - as a guide. But like everything on the web it may or may not be right! For Taxi, I intend to use Humbrol 126 for the roof, Xtracolor 802 for the sides. These match the RAL colours. The yellow is open to debate - I am trying to match up against the Roco yellow and have tried Railmatch 210 (too eggy) and next will be Railmatch 304. (Railmatch 202 doesn't match either.) RENFE yellow should be Hataka C707 but its not easy to find and is an acrylic. The rest of my painting has been using enamels.
  15. I suspect this should be really placed in different section, but I suspect it will just get frowned upon and lost in a sea of BR blue................ I have just stripped a Roco AVE 319 and intend to respray it into Taxi livery. I'll order up decals from Spain shortly and keep you guys up to date with progress. Below is a picture of the starting point - I had progressed slightly further, but its just gone back into the IPA as my first choice of yellow wasn't quite right.................Doh!
  16. Hi Hayley, The RENFE had one EMD GL12. I don't know how similar to the G12 type it was but here are a couple of links that may be of use. https://trenesytiempos.blogspot.com/2018/06/las-tracciones-termica-y-electrica-en_20.html http://www.forotrenes.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=64247&hilit=renfe+1401 Both are in Spanish but Google can deal with that! If the GL12 was similar enough to the G12 then I'm sure a few Spanish modellers would be interested. There has been a brass model produced of this engine but I think that was a while ago. https://www.alejandromodelismoferroviario.com/catalogo/1401/140110.html I also noticed that there is a G12 on Shapeways. https://www.shapeways.com/product/K8M28CEJU/g-m-emd-g12-locomotive-ho-scale-1-87-allbody?optionId=64642322&li=marketplace I don't know how accurate it is and I would expect you would have already searched for existing ones. I look forward to seeing how you get on.
  17. I have read reports on the Spanish forum, Forotrenes, that the last release of Roco's Renfe 333 has had both colour and assembly issues though Roco's website states the same QC process is in place in Austria, Slovakia, Romania and Vietnam. Mabar's Renfe 1900 and Sudexpressmodels Euro 4000 are also reported to have variations in quality. I doubt Hornby's QC is any worse than anyone else.
  18. Stroudley's HR improved engine green would be excellent on the P2, reflecting the heritage of a locomotive designed to work to the NE of Scotland. It would also produce a much brighter and happier looking locomotive...........
  19. Just watched drama Hinterland on Netflix and the detective identifies a loco as a Bachmann City Class and mentions his brother in law in into model railways................. There is also a layout involved and much of it is shot around a station in Wales......can't say much more as it will spoil the story, but the layout does have some quite intricate details that would have required scratch building! S1E4 for those with Netflix and 90 minutes to spare.
  20. Just placed a pre-order for a couple of Hornby Int'l models with no issues - just need to wait until Novemberish or later.......... Have noticed that a couple of models have gone straight from pre-order to OOS status overnight as the website changed..........hopefully a mistake for models not due until August!
  21. I know this is an old thread I have dug up but it came up on a google search and has provided valuable inspiration and assistance while I repainted one of my Triang 37s. I recently decided that I was going to repaint a Mehano Class 66 in GBRf 66789 - see 3.5mm British HO section of this forum - and thought I would use an old 37 as a test bed and respray it into LL blue. As it (appeared) to go well, I ordered up some Railtec decals and finished it off as 37403. I have only really changed the buffers - one day it might get the headcode blanking plates............there will be other parts that are inaccurate but I don't really care. I enjoyed the repainting process and I am happy with the result and an old loco that I have shown no interest in for over 30 years has provided a couple of hours of entertainment. A big thanks to carl1967 and everyone else who have shared their efforts,
  22. Whilst following the above link I saw this one............... https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005001568726673.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000014.15.482f3b65KJsQEs&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.14976.202008.0&scm_id=1007.14976.202008.0&scm-url=1007.14976.202008.0&pvid=4edb6f51-9be2-4cdd-921a-8bdaf1ea15f2&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.14976.202008.0,pvid:4edb6f51-9be2-4cdd-921a-8bdaf1ea15f2,tpp_buckets:668%230%23131923%230_668%23808%234094%23135_668%23888%233325%235_4976%230%23202008%236_4976%232711%237538%2386_4976%233104%239653%233_4976%234052%2318550%2347_4976%233141%239887%235_668%232846%238109%23253_668%232717%237565%23744_668%231000022185%231000066058%230_668%233422%2315392%23302_4452%230%23189847%230_4452%233474%2316498%23910_4452%233098%239599%2342_4452%233564%2316062%23939 I don't know if its actually 1/87 - Southern Steam isn't my scene but it might be of interest to others. Of course this model may be widely known already. If appropriate it might make a suitable candidate for motorisation.
  23. Has anyone built the Acorn/Mercian LMS Dock Tank?? I bought the model probably around 98/99 and ordered up wheels and motor shortly afterwards. I have never built a brass kit before and for the last 22ish years it has appeared too complicated, but now I feel a bit more confident and more important - I don't really care if I fail......... If anyone has built one it would be great if I have a place to ask for advice? Thanks.
  24. After several months I reckon 66789 is now ready for service......its been an adventure but I am really pleased with how its turned out. My original model was HGK 64, Mehano 6360 and although I am aware there are some differences between the UK and Continental locos I have ignored most of these! The Mehano model had antenna above each cab, one of which was broken when I got the loco, the second came off in my hands. Fortunately the UK locos don't appear to have these. I also removed what I think are called indusi shoes from each bogie as these are for German signalling. I used a Railmatch paints - blue, yellow, grey and varnish and Humbrol - black, orange and grey (undercoat). The Railtec decals were great and easy to use. I was working from pictures on the web so the actual decal positioning my be slightly out but it works for me! The cantrail stripe could be straighter........... This has been my first attempt at a respray and I had to teach myself to spray first. At the same time I worked on a Triang 37 again into large logo so I could see how it all went. I'm really happy with the outcome and enjoyed doing it. I'll get Christmas out the way (I work in retail) and then think on what I'll be doing next.
  25. I've ordered a few things from eBay.es with no issues. Some of these have come from model shops selling via eBay. I have also had three deliveries from Basar Valira, probably around ten years ago and there was no method on their website for paying with a UK card. I called them and explained they problem - the girl spoke English - and I just emailed my credit card details. Not these wisest move, but I did want the ALCo on my avatar......I had no problems. I got a 333.3 from Rocafort in Barcelona, but had to get my wife to call and give card details over the phone...... Postage can be steep. I paid €30 postage on the orders from Rocafort and Basar Valira, but more recently it has been cheaper from eBay and I even had a 333.3 free postage! I have also had Renfe models from Germany and Slovenia via eBay and old Electrotren catalogues from Italy. All the items I have bought have been tracked deliveries, arrived in good condition and matched the description of what I wanted.
