1. Don’t mean to linger off topic but it most certainly is worth pursuing Andy I received a warm welcome when I joined. Can’t remember now, did you have to finish joining by confirming yourself from an email I think they tend to go in your junk folder! As a newish modeller had some nice comments over there on. https://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/starting-out-in-pre-1971-kit-building.7101/page-2 And my other topic. You'll see familiar faces from here there, like. https://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/the-strawberry-line-in-p4.7715/ https://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/brinkly-works.7713/#post-183799 https://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/modelling-a-gwr-prototype-carrog-in-4mm-7mm.7488/ Cheers Back to Jinty’s exquisite modelling, don’t think he’s on WT by the way.
2. A lot heading to Western Thunder! a lot more modelling and less thread jamming as I call it! Great modelling there though Jinty top top class. Cheers
3. Lovely that, similar to No.5 WTW I’m building smaller I imagine. I live pretty close by so will have to pop along and enjoy it’s company. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers
4. EDM Models Newsletter Volume 9 Issue 5 17th April 2019 View this email in your browser Late Final........ After a fantastic, if exhausting, five days at The Great North Steam Fair at Beamish its been hard work getting motivated again and getting caught up with outstanding stuff to the extent I almost forgot this weekends show news. York Model Railway Exhibtion Phil Traxson & I will be there all weekend on stand 126 in the same area of the top floor as usual but opposite our normal spot. We'll both be doing some sort of modelling demo but advanced planning being what it is I have no idea what I'll be doing but you can expect some of our latest 3D printed examples to be on show We look forward to seeing many of you and having a chat. I will only have a very limited supply of stuff for sale (more limited than when i usually make this sort of announcement). If there is something you wish to collect its essential you let me know in advance so I can make sure it gets packed. Daft as it may sound, this is Phil and my chance to get some personal modelling done instead of doing customers models and what we do may just be what takes our fancy on the day Well, that was the important announcement that prompted this newsletter but I will follow it up with a few other quickie announcements. L&B Sound Decoders Thank you to all of you patiently waiting for these to fit into your Heljan 009 L&B locos. Paul & I have been working on these to get the sounds just how we want them with a lot of auto sounds included. *************************EDM Models - 7mm Kits********************************************** Work is now progressing on these kits with a view to having the first ones done by EXPONG and all pre-orders done by the year end I know its years late and that its going to cost more than the original forecast but I think it will be worth waiting for as the delay allows me to take full advantage of new technologies. I'll be able to show some actual development parts soon and I'll be intouch with subscribers as soon as I can. A final note - I really have winged it with this one going straight to the full list without a circuit round via the proof reader. If you spot something, have a chuckle but don't bother e-mailing to tell me I Karnt Spell Do please remember: - EDM Models is just me. I can't be by the phone all the time so if you get the machine do please leave a message. (There are some jobs where you just have to ignore the phone to get them done. Nowadays as EDM has become the `day' job you can call during the day between 10am & 6pm but just Monday to Fridays during the summer months please. 5. Thanks Tom, the old airfix are great, still stand up today I bought 3 from eBay having great fun building them. Cheers
6. Nice work Tom, the buffers are they your additions or did they come with the kits? im currently building a 50 year old airfix 16T and lost a plastic buffer so a source may be required! Cheers Ade.
7. Hi Al, I’ve seen traps done in the corners that lift out or hinge down/up and you crawl underneath to access them. but with your sloped ceiling being so close I don’t think it’s an option. Only thing I can think of is a lift out section but the senics on top would need profiling to miss the slope on getting it out. Then a method of actually getting to it and accessing hidden handles (screw in maybe) to pull it out for access. Not easy my 10 pennies worth probably better options out there! Cheers Ade
8. Easy when you know how! Thanks for the info it’s all looking spot on, coming along lovely. Cheers
9. Andy I’ve probably missed it but how do you do the puddles? look at post number ??? Coming up no doubt, though a search turned up nowt. Cheers
10. Cheers for the info Dave, that’s my concern melting what I have previously done. But I think a heat sink close by could do the trick or be super quick like you with a swear box! Thanks.
11. Moving on. Both crossheads done. Time to mount on the front of the cylinders. But first as I envisage 70 deg solder for the cover plate, valve guide and slide bars all in one hit, I needed to cut and fit the cylinder wrappers. First the cylinder assembly needed a fettle to fit the wrapper between the front and rear plates. One wrapper fitted rear for solder and taking stock it’s great to do something other than the motion! Question would you solder the slide bars etc. To the rear of the assembly in one hit with 70deg? The wrappers etc are/will be done with 145deg. Progress pics. Were getting there, one year in wow! Did think perhaps I ought to be finished by now, but I’ve not really invested a huge amount of time into it. My health was very poor at the beginning. I’ll keep plodding on and see how the next year goes with it. Until next time Cheers.
12. Oh dear sorry about that missed the important Lodge bit I see now! Educated now. i guess there is a map in the topic somewhere I’ll have have a peruse. Cheers
13. I see a Kettle is heading through Heaton Jn 12.05 today. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55047/2019/03/03/advanced A1 Tornado Doncaster to Edinburgh. Presume it where this ace model is based on? https://www.a1steam.com/2018/03/23/the-auld-reekie/ See from FB it left a little late. Hope you don’t mind me putting this here? Cheers Ade
14. I posted this in James (Edwardian) Topic but worth keeping for info here. Also of note Phil I think it was put me on to the Network Rail Media House where they hold a lot of archives, I’ve been in email contact with them as initially there was nothing they had uploaded of Barnstaple Town . The kind people there found some plans and kindly uploaded them for me, well everyone as it’s a pay for service to get copies of said plans, link below. https://nr.mediastorehouse.com/non-operational-railway/barnstaple-town-station https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/141481-barnstaple-town/&do=findComment&comment=3479217
15. Um last post October 2018, I thought hope Damian is ok! Of course he is you just have to track him down. A great read these 34 pages as all your builds are. Found you have taken on BCB and been over there reading that. Hope to see this completed one day. Good stuff as always. Cheers Ade
16. So after following your topic Highland Sulzers, I thought I,d see where you are now! Your a busy man Damian nope that came to a stop I checked your activity which led me to BCB. Which we can see grandly sits in your ownership now, well done on that. I’ve started reading that since you took it on. But the point of order here is, this one is Abandoned! Shock and a horror! shame really. Proof here https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56607-black-country-blues/&do=findComment&comment=3216745 Base boards being used on BCB this was a great start. I did email Paul Martin at NG Trains before I knew you abandoned this to see where he was on it, paste of email below. Adrian The kits got back burnered and are only now making progress to release. The plus of this is that they are taking advantage of new technologies I learnt my lesson with the earache I've had from the 100 for the years of delay so I am not taking reservations. When they are available they will be a stock item Availability will be first announced in my newsletter Paul -----Original Message----- From: Ade Moore <adriank> Sent: 04 February 2019 02:07 To: paul@ngtrains.com Subject: 7mm L&B kits, Yeo Taw etc. Hi Paul, Just came across your website for the above latest 2010. No orders being taken? Have you done the first 100? Is there a register of interest for another batch? Looking forward to hearing from you. Adrian Moore So maybe my own 4mm version of Barnstable Town will be my next fix of the L&B, but the rate I model that will be 10 years away! Wish I had your skill and devotion, you turn them out like buses coming along! Perhaps you should edit the title from Paused to abandoned? Cheers for a great 75 pages anyway. Ade
17. My thoughts exactly with my scratch build! looking good this build. Cheers
18. Cheers Chris I’ll take a look tomorrow. As for the box it’s on the back burner at the moment as I’m currently back on making the motion for Jane. i looked at Mike Meg’s technique for making model bricks with Yorkshire Tea box card here https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/12664-hessle-haven/&do=findComment&comment=394354 I just couldn’t master the scribing after half a dozen attempts. So Scale Model Scenery English Garden Wall Bond wrap I think I’ll try next. Your link is pretty bang on, but I’m sure I can change it to match the Barnstaple Town Box. Thanks for the post. Cheers Ade
19. Thanks for this James, I have seen this book referred to lots of times particularly on Damian’s topic 7mm Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Project; Currently Paused. I assumed from that it was all L&B, with Town being mixed I didn’t think it would of covered it. So thanks for the heads up on the book trying to find one 2nd hand reasonably priced Is going to be a task by the look of it. Second hand ones up for £65.00 when from the author direct New they are £65.00 mad. Anyway I’m in no rush so I will keep my eyes peeled. Thanks once again for the tip. Cheers Ade
20. James not sure whether that’s aimed at my duff link of the Taw bridge discussion (now amended) or the £15.00. I’m guessing the later. I wouldn’t go for them all just one I think, the one of the Station I screenshot. Its almost good enough to see zoomed in but not quite obviously I suppose. Cheers Ade
21. Oh forgot to add you can get those plans as a download for £15 maybe I’ll do that 15mb so decent it would seem.
22. Thanks for the kind words James. I have not located any plans for Taw Bridge yet but a discussion here , https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/140979-girder-plate-viaduct-but-curved/ I will take the time to read through Castle Aching looks amazing from the 1st few pages I’ve read. cheers Ade edited as wrong link inserted.
23. Stephen Lea put me on to this excellent topic, So you may see from my signature I’m planning a later edition of the very same station to include the Taw viaduct. Nothing like the detailed level of modelling I see from your Castle Aching topic! Great research here so far. In answer to the quoted text above from my recent trip there the sign outside says, 6th Form Town Station Pathfield School Inspiring Interaction. So no longer a pre School I suggest. Here is a link to my saved photos, some in there of your era https://photos.app.goo.gl/s9qkHsAxGQyeWwk7A Just to say my working was/is Barnstaple Quay but funny thing is I called it that not to be prototypical. I had no idea there once was a station there called that! Also of note Phil I think it was put me on to the Network Rail Media House where they hold a lot of archives, I’ve been in email contact with them as initially there was nothing they had uploaded of Barnstaple Town . The kind people there found some plans and kindly uploaded them for me, well everyone as it’s a pay for service to get copies of said plans, link below. https://nr.mediastorehouse.com/non-operational-railway/barnstaple-town-station Hope that may be of interest Edwardian (do you have a name? Will be following this and Castle Aching with interest. Cheers Ade
24. Perfect Stephen thanks for the link will watch with interest. Cheers Ade
