  1. Others may be aware but I had no idea, the MOD got some rail by the look, a diesel loco and some vans and stuck them up on the plain. Where I don’t know but and article from a group I follow on the K&A canal on FB threw it up. Page 6 here https://issuu.com/mediaclash/docs/sl260_final Thought it may be of interest. Cheers
  2. Right nearly a month has gone by, not a lot to report but many things tried and abandoned. Now tonight I found the crucial piece of the jigsaw that I’ve not thought about until tonight means that plan A would of worked and still may do. Plan B could work and I’ve started plan C! What am I talking about is crossheads and slide bars! But before I bore you with that, folks above joined me in thinking the frames were not true and needed maybe major work. Surprisingly bang on. Dip in middle Bit of a fettle all is well. Then the crossheads, Dave's fine etches a 4 layer laminatons I thought way to tricky for me so I thought solid brass easier. An electrician who’s a modeller always keeps these kinda bits. Grinding flat Checking even thickness Then I realised I had no saw blade thin enough to make the slots for the slidebars to run in. So 0.5mm brass as used for the frames, 2 faces with filed rebates soldered together to make the H shape. Filing a shoulder, first by mini drill then by hand It buckled on thining so then clamped on top vice, now doing the other side. Lined up for size, with the right size rebates to fit between slide bars then cut in half for 2 halves. Then the moment of realisation as described in the opening paragraph. I needed the connecting rod to check the boss fits between the 2 halves, oh dear! Far to thin.... So abandoned that and started fetling Dave’s etches! With a view to making the few laminations im missing. So now a few hours later and reflecting I can see version A would work as the slot I can make for the connecting rod boss size all round 3 sides and my mini drill disc will do that. Version B would be ok probably as The solder in between the halves if applied plenty would more than likely give enough width for the boss. So there you have it many hours spent getting nowhere. But first I’m gonna have a go at those etches I was avoiding! I’ve Come full circle. Any comments advice warmly welcomed. Until next time. Cheers
  3. Had the notification from YouTube so popped straight over to take a look. Very nice I must say. Cheers Ade
  4. Interesting that, looks very good from the sneaky pic. First I thought a might have been Shepton Mallet the S&D passes very close to the old Hobbs Brothers tarpaulin works. https://www.rightpricediy.co.uk Scroll down to Industrious Shepton lovely history but no loco yard! Cheers for sharing.
  5. Interesting stuff Mike, nice to see the opposite side views and the fiddle yard. Hope those issues resolve themselves rapidly to. Cheers Ade
  6. Mike looking forward to an update missed seeing your fab layout pics. Cheers
  7. Tom here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/8440-telegraph-poles/ Also ready made but pricey https://www.expressmodels.co.uk/catalogue/4mm-scale-hand-made-telegraph-poles/3-bar-telegraph-pole-detail Cheers
  8. Having a session with a few of those myself, http://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/starting-out-in-pre-1971-kit-building.7101/#post-172222 still hold there own really, though can be updated. Like what you’ve done with the doors. The hinges will have to come off on mine. Thought I’d honour them as Airfix intended but don’t think I can live with them. Cheers Ade
  9. Brilliant modelling that Kevin a great upgrade. Also the pic where you didn’t infill the corner with the ruin barn has tone on of the best examples of modelling I’ve seen.Cheers Ade
  10. Not relevant to your request Chris but you may be interested in this. Tucker Street as you will no doubt know.
  11. Not spotted this in your signature until now Andrew excellent stuff. Another of my favourites. Cheers Ade
  12. Looks really really good. A lot of work that. I may of missed it but how many years has it taken to build so far? Cheers Ade
  13. “ I'm really interested in the cottage that lay on the north side between the stone loading shed and the goods shed. I've very few photos of that to go on”. Andrew it was knocked down before I got to play around there. What I do know is that the cottage was brick and we built a den in the left overs of it. Also our fire place at Maymead, Lower North Street was made from those bricks that dad rehomed! I”ll see what photos I have. Cheers Ade
  14. Nigel fab photos thanks for adding them to the topic great reference material that. Cheers Ade
  15. Kieth looking at my photo, Yours is different on the canopy supports this is Barnstaple Town and the link I put to the card kits is very much closer to this. Also there is a hidden station building on clicking on the ticket office that does show up in the menus. Cheers Ade
  16. Brian my vision is not actually based on the viaduct to Barnstaple Town, I know Keith didn’t actually say as much in post 32 but to put the topic back on course I’m planning a much bigger estuary crossing as in posts 6 & 15.Cheers Ade
  17. Cheers Kieth, one ref. I know for SR kits is here http://www.amodelrailway.co.uk/shop/ very cheap but only card, not used them myself but could make a base for a scratch build in something more substantial. But saying that plenty of card kits are 30 or more years old on layouts still giving good service.Cheers
  18. Ah whoops sorry I should’ve gone back and read your post properly! I remember you did say. I had forgotten that bit! Cheers

  22. Keith those are amazing not seen that done so well as that before the slide to compare thing. Thanks a bunch for those links. As for viaducts and tides, time will tell but I see what your saying. Cheers Ade
  23. Ah duff knowledge on my part! didn’t spot that link though thanks for pointing it out. So that answers my question Re, goods shed. Not relevant on signal diagram only the track plan. White text terrible choice of the website builder. Cheers Phil much obliged.
  24. That’s the track plan from Phil’s link rather nice. Funny the Goods Shed is not shown? 1892 1914 Scottish Library Map shows it plainly. Still existent today. The Barnstaple Junction LSWR Station, just plain Barnstaple Station today. Cheers
  25. Cheers Phil excellent info. There. The track plan I almost gave up on then I spotted it! White text bottom right of text on page if your looking and can’t see it.Cheers Ade
