  1. Yes I did the J70 as I wanted my own yet didn’t want to pay £100+ for a RTR one, it’s a decent enough model for my needs so should work for TT. OO version above, will be printed in the best Shapeways quality given the size difference. I don’t want to commit to anything yet, but obviously if a GWR Pannier came as the first release I’d be looking to produce suitable stock for it, likewise a LMS Jinty would push me to LMS stock. Don’t have a set plan on what I want to model in TT so I guess I’ll do a oval of sorts for now to try the scale out and see how it develops for me. Glad to have Peco supporting the scale and look forward to getting involved too.
  2. https://www.modellbahnunion.com/Narrow-gauge/Universal-drive-bogie-with-motor-Next18-interface-12V-H0m.htm?shop=modellbahn-union-en&a=article&ProdNr=Rietze-70823&p=835 Going to order one of these, as soon as it arrives I’ll measure it up and adapt the body mesh to suit this chassis so it’s a direct fit. Didn’t realise the J70 is available for everyone to buy so will amend that. Planning on doing some basic wagons to supplement the Peco offering, and will probably end up using OOn3 9mm wheels as they seem to look like a good work around for British modellers.
  3. I’ve ordered myself one to test the water (Peco haven’t yet announced a loco) and there are suitable chassis out there that hide skirts easily. It’ll fit nicely with a 7 plank unlike a 66. Support for the scale is beneficial to new modellers and Peco, Gaugemaster etc. We already have scratch aids from Worsley Works on the market, perhaps more and more people getting on board will do the scale good? I’m toying with looking at what is available on the continental market and looking at bodies that could work with existing chassis. I’m surprised there is no kit for the NS 500/600/700 and given it’s similar to locos we have here I think we will see one shortly if the scale does get further support.
  4. I'm wondering if some of the 3mm Society items could be adapted for 1/120 as the British HO Society do with some items. A Terrier to E1 was my first thought.
  5. I'm certain it will all follow NEM standards, looking at what Peco have shown and the NEM coupling on the 7 plank wagon. I'm glad it isn't a tension lock!
  6. Nothing is wrong with modelling in 1:120, it gives a good scale to work in. There are items available all over the place, I noticed earlier some Hong Kong trams are available along with other vehicles. Personally I find it funny to see the “rage” from those modelling in 3mm to the foot. It’s basically a reboot away from Triang and closer towards what everyone else is doing in the world, if only Triang had done that when they knocked Dublo from the top spot. British RTR models in HO instead of OO would be far superior.
  7. Consider me a convert, at least to dabble in it at least. Always fancied British HO but I’m set in OO, so European TT is a good way of getting accurate models for me in limited space. Looking forward to getting a wagon or two, nice to know there will be some RTR stock of use.

Makes sense for my memory then, I’d have been 10 with no idea of narrow gauge models other than LGB

Peco has offered HOm trackwork (suitable for OOn3) for as long as I can remember?

It's almost like Peco have looked at what modern TT modellers use in other countries, and decided to follow those standards. British OO is too far gone for modellers to shift to HO sadly, but I'm glad to see 1:120 being established. Perhaps it's time to leave the Triang items on the museum shelf and create modern items for modern modellers? It's a shame about the kits but I see a bigger range than track, buildings and a wagon coming from Peco and other parties. If it takes off, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bachmann or Dapol enter the market too.
  12. I remember about 10 years or so ago being in the Signal Box at Ansty where two grandparents were buying some items for their grandsons model railway, advice was given towards second hand or lower priced items but they were set on two Hornby A3 locomotives at near enough current RRP prices for the time. Neither were modellers, just because it is the general public doesn't mean they won't buy items at RRP or thereabouts.
  13. Parts being used with a Triang TT Jinty body to produce a O9 0-6-4T, doing these bashes to reduce my own dependency on 3D printing and to build up scratch building skills again. Smokebox door is obvious but a sprue is being adapted into a new chimney.
  14. Hi, Do you still have the baseboard? If so could I collect it?
  15. A fireless Pugbash being worked on tonight, the leftover parts will be used to build a O9 locomotive
  16. More slow progress, I think I have managed to order all of the mechanical parts, so once they are here I can alter the CAD files to suit and then proceed with printing the model parts.
  17. I’ve started a blog to showcase some of my own STL files, done this as I find the search function on thingiverse to be dreadful. It’s still being updated with links and files so please note that as I’m working on it when I can https://johnnyspanners.blogspot.com/
  18. Basic shape is getting there, once all of the non 3D printed parts arrive I can start to work out how to do the chassis and get it running. Think at this stage I will do the locomotive first, and then create the tender afterwards.
  19. Looking at using a N20 motor, which should be sufficient for the size of the model.
  20. I say they would be fine as this is what they have done to Rapido, if they kick up a fuss surely it’s exactly as they have done to Rapido. It’s not like Bachmann as a company haven’t already kind of done this, look at the North Pole Set the US arm have produced and tell me it isn’t a rip off to The Polar Express, even down to livery and execution. Bachmann have tooling for the locomotive but I guess that’s cutting it too close. https://www.Bachmann.co.uk/product/north-pole-express-train-set/00751 Given Lionel hold the rights to producing the HO scale Polar Express, I wonder what their views were to this set? Clearly inspired by but not quite infringing? I note here locomotive livery application, number on locomotive, coach livery, observation coach on rear of train, name on tender (North Pole Express/Polar Express)
  21. Hornby would likely be fine, but I am sure Warner Bros would do what we think StudioCanal will likely do in regard to Hornby and Rapido.
  22. Little bit of further work tonight, I've ordered the donor driving wheels and motor so will await them before continuing with the chassis design. Files will be available from this page when complete: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5197614
  23. Perhaps Titchfield is a way of getting around the StudioCanal/Rapido rights issue
  24. Having decided I want to have a model of Lion, yet have no real interest in modelling Era 1 or wanting to spend a decent sum of money on a model that I will not really use, I’ve gone ahead with creating a model that will use common parts. So far it looks like this, and when it produces a working model I’ll put the files on Thingiverse so that others can download it and make their own. I may end up altering the model to represent Lion as it probably would have looked, and then adapt it further into a representation of similar locomotives of the time and type. I won’t lie, it will not be to the same standards as a ready to run model but for my needs it is good. Having worked from a set of scale drawings here is the model so far:
  25. Wasn’t it shown on BBC Four though? Great for classic forgotten or lesser movies but not exactly Sky Cinema or Netflix for a modern audience, is it? I doubt the average person would have a clue about the movie, it’s got an audience with film and railway enthusiasts, and that’s about it.
