  1. About two days ago, I had spent much of the day having fun in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Here's two pictures of a TriMet Westside Express Service(WES) commuter rail train in suburban Beaverton, Oregon taken from my smartphone. The train does street running for about two blocks along Southwest(SW) Lombard Avenue. In these pictures, I am standing at the intersection of Southwest Lombard Avenue and Southwest Broadway Street. I had ridden down this commuter route to Wilsonville, Oregon and back to Beaverton. Tammie's Hobbies model train store is about 200 feet from where I am standing. I had bought some N scale cars at Tammie's Hobbies and at The Hobby Smith model train store in Portland. Wendell Idaho, USA

  3. Here's a new picture of a Union Pacific Railroad train in Joso, Washington. The train is crossing the giant Joso Bridge over the Snake River. Joso is about 110 road-miles(176 road-kilometers) southwest of Spokane. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/771039/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  4. The City of Prineville Railway is still owned by its namesake city today. http://www.trainweb.org/highdesertrails/cop.html https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Prineville_Railway Wendell Idaho, USA
  5. Oh, okay. I didn't know that the OP was listing only the shortline railroads he has seen or visited. I thought he was putting together a big list of shortlines whether seen or not. I was trying to help him out. There are over 500 shortline railroads here in North America. Here's a Wikipedia link to many shortline railroads: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shortline_railroad Wendell Idaho, USA
  6. Mike Walker, are you going to add more railroads that begin with the letter C? I know of at least two more "C" shortline railroads. Wendell Idaho, USA
  7. Boise Valley Railroad The Boise Valley Railroad(BVRR) is a shortline railroad that operates in the Boise, Idaho area. The BVRR is headquartered in suburban Nampa, Idaho and is owned by Watco Companies. Many of the BVRR locomotives are painted in blue and orange to match the school colors of Boise State University. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boise_Valley_Railroad https://www.railpictures.net/photo/351584/ https://www.railpictures.net/photo/768819/ https://www.railpictures.net/photo/334279/ Wendell Idaho, USA

  11. Here's a little sidenote about the Arizona and California Railroad: The ARZC(reporting mark) also has trackage rights on the BNSF Railway for 57 miles(91.2 kilometers) from Matthie, Arizona to Downtown Phoenix. The ARZC interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad in Phoenix. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona_and_California_Railroad Wendell Idaho, USA
  12. Here's a picture of a Ferrocarril Mexicano(Ferromex; "Mexican Railway" in Spanish) train in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico with a desert mountain in the background. Lerdo is a suburb of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. 74% of Ferromex is owned by Grupo Mexico which also owns all of the Florida East Coast Railway here in The States. The other 26% of Ferromex is owned by the Union Pacific Railroad. I sometimes see Ferromex locomotives on Union Pacific trains over here Stateside. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/233507/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  13. Nice picture and long live the Espee! Wendell Idaho, USA
  14. Here's another beautiful picture of a Union Pacific Railroad train near Moab, Utah on the Cane Creek Branch. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/770408/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  15. I have an idea for what a combined Canadian Pacific/Kansas City Southern system should be named: The CPKC Railway. The initials "CP" is well known in the railroad industry as the Canadian Pacific Railway. The initials "KC" is the shorter abbreviation for the City of Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas. 16. Here's a picture of a Union Pacific Railroad train in Mountain Home, Idaho. The train is heading westbound towards the beautiful sunset. Mountain Home is about 45 miles(72 kilometers) southeast of Boise via the Interstate 84(I-84) freeway. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/579489/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  17. Here's a picture of a Canadian Pacific Railway train in Crestwynd, Saskatchewan, Canada. All 201 cars on this train is traversing through wheat fields in serpentine curves. Crestwynd is about 70 miles(112 kilometers) southwest of Regina. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/375901/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  18. Here's a black & white picture of a Union Pacific Railroad train in Cima, California. The train is traversing through the open Mojave Desert in the midst of Joshua trees. Cima is near the Nevada border; about 220 road-miles(352 road-kilometers) northeast of Los Angeles and about 75 miles(120 kilometers) south of Las Vegas, Nevada(both via the Interstate 15 freeway). https://www.railpictures.net/photo/183593/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  19. Here's a pair of examples of a small 2-rail O scale layout built here in The States(Chicagoland): https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/15624 https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/31878 Wendell Idaho, USA
  20. In my opinion, the top four former railroads that sell locomotives really well in HO scale is the Southern Pacific Railroad, Santa Fe Railway, Burlington Northern Railroad, and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Number five would be either the Chicago & North Western Railway, Consolidated Rail Corporation(Conrail), or the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. Think about it. All of these aforementioned former railroads had nice and timeless paint schemes on their locomotives. Wendell Idaho, USA
  21. Here's a couple of beautiful pictures of the Canadian Pacific Railway train in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. The train is rounding Morant's Curve in both pictures. Lake Louise is near the British Columbia border; about 110 miles(176 kilometers) west of Calgary on Trans-Canada Highway 1(TCH-1). https://www.railpictures.net/photo/281564/ https://www.railpictures.net/photo/682942/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  22. Most of the locomotives in the Trona Railway are former Southern Pacific and Union Pacific locomotives. Wendell Idaho, USA
  23. I had thought that Trains magazine had mentioned the part about the different railroads' comparison of their lines to the Milwaukee Road's. Thank you for the information. Wendell Idaho, USA
  24. The main reason why the Soo Line was allowed to purchase the Milwaukee Road was because the Soo had less overlapping or duplicate lines compared to the Milwaukee. If the Chicago & North Western had bought the Milwaukee Road, railroad competition would have been decreased. The reason why the SPSF merger was denied was because the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway had way too many miles of mainline track in the American Southwest(California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) combined.
