    Just watched the bbc documentary on the old i player if anyone hasn't seen it o can heartily recommend it Sir John Betjeman prancing around on the tracks in a Gannex Mac priceless. (He is one of my dream dinner party guests ) Listening to some of his comments on the build up of traffic even when filmed.In 1963 never mind the level he predicted for the 70s the man was years ahead of his times . Only thing missing was some Ikea furniture

    There is a certain something about the old somerset and dorset lines having no connection with the area apart from caravan holidays in the area in the 80s. The books articles and videos pictures and rob and other's layouts certainly show an atmosphere thst pervades the line and its environs that i cannot find the words to dedcribe. It is certainly another destination for the time machine Apologies rob for prattling on on your thread

    On the Swindon to unwittingly joint line in the pontefract area there were street lights on the actual railway line on the approach to Baghill station i believe they were fitted due to.mining subsidence as far as I am aware the lighting columns are still there but not used i would go and have a look but I have to self shield at the moment

    Just stumbled on this thread it really captures Wakefield. Cant believe you managed this from Oz I live close to Pontefract monkhill station on the Wakefield to Goole line. Coincidentally John fairline wrote a couple of books with Peter Cookson who taught me maths back in the lste 80s early 90s

    What i have done is donated what i would have otherwise spent on diesel split between nymr and kvwr Its not much but i hope it helps it helps me feel a bit better too Spread the love not the virus
