  1. I had forgotten yes, but i also didn't really type it correctly, i should have been clearer, when i said Standards i meant the 75 standard.
  2. Surprised and confused...... dont worry, your not the only one.
  3. Well after the disappointment of the modern image range i was hoping to find better things on the steam thread.... No such luck. I got all excited when a friend told me on the phone that 34072 AND 34046 were being done.... and then i seen them, why do 34046 as an original version when as a rebuilt one it would appeal to not only steam era fans but modern image fans as well????? And why Malachite green on 34072, surely BR Green as preserved would have been a better bet? Add to this the lack of a rebuilt Merchant Navy, Battle of Britain, West Country or a Bulleid Q1 and no BR standards either and im afraid to say i'll be walking away empty handed and disappointed. I also like collecting the little 0-4-0 Pecketts..... None of them listed either!
  4. Im just gonna take your word for it that is the same location, looks totally different to me!
  5. Hmmm, im not left feeling that aroused by the announcements this year from Hornby... Good to see the 4VEP in SWT livery, i will get one of those as i rode on many of them.... The Southern livery one, probably one of those as well at some point. Class 50, 50042 yes, probably..... 50044, not a hope in hells chance that will sell, even if they sort the black windows there is still the issue of the white stripe, i think Hornby may well do better in picking a different loco, 50032 in the same livery with its blue 'Courageous' nameplates would no doubt go down well? .........im struggling to see anything else, i may buy more (such as 08604), but it will only be if the retailers drop the price and i happen to see something whilst having money burning a whole in my pocket... Once again, feeling 'meh' at Hornbys modern image offerings, so many open goals missed, i shall go and browse the steam era releases, see if anything take my fancy.
  6. Or RSS, they can be seen all over the UK working for GBRf and others. for a class that numbered nearly a thousand and carried god knows how many liveries im at a loss as to why Hornby make so few of them, especially as its a good model. They could literally churn them out in different liveries/numbers all year like Lima used to do.
  7. I was expecting (and hoping) for the new Freightliner G&W Orange on the 08 being as its a new livery. I might get 08604, i dunno, its not a must have and is expensive.
  8. So.... did a bit of an impulse buy..... well, its something ive always wanted, but resisted as it doesn't fit into my collection but gave in and purchased it while at the NRM and that is Rapidos/NRMs Dynamometer car, since i purchased it it has sat on my self with nothing appropriate to couple it to, so having given it some thought ive decided the logical thing to do is buy a model of Mallard to display it with, having had a quick trawl of Ebay there are many many versions of Mallard made to various standards during the years, my simple question is which one is the best? Id like Mallard as it stands today in the NRM, and it has to be a super detailed version to match the Rapido model. Ive seen one that is presented as 'The Great Gathering', a ltd edition model that seems to command a high price, is that the best one or are there others out there that ive missed. The gold plated one is nice, but doesn't really do it for me. Regards.
  9. Thats what im doing at the moment, ive got two Freightliner 66s (Hattons) to pull them with..... but i really want a 59..... actually no, i want lots of 59s to pull them with, lol. Ah well, tomorrow is Hornbys big reveal...... lets see if they surprise us with a super detail 59?
  10. I'm sure as everyone knows Revolution are doing a class 59 in N gauge, and bloody good it looks to, but Revolution said no when i asked if they would do it in 00 gauge. Over on the Hornby page, and in pic above, there have been noises about Hornby updating their class 59, i'm wondering if Hornby have got something planned? They shot Cavalex down in flames with the retooled class 91, could they do the same to Dapol with the 59. Are Dapol holding off putting the 59 in to production because they know Hornby have one coming? If Dapol produce theirs and then Hornby do one, which could be better, that will be a lot of models that Dapol get lumbered with that won't sell and that could financially be a big issue for them. With potentially both Hornby and Dapol having class 59 projects on the go that might also explain why Revolution have said a straight no! With a class comprising only 15 examples we don't really need duplicate models and i think it would be brave of Dapol to take on Hornby until they at least see what Hornby do. Hornby are doing there future plans/big reveal on Monday i believe, be interesting to see if a 59 is a surprise announcement. I can't help but think now that something is going on behind the scenes, Dapol make that rather brilliant O&K Hopper wagon, Accurascale the ARC & Yeoman tipplers, and Revolution the Mendip JNAs and the HOAs aren't far away either, there is a very good fleet of Mendip stone wagons to pull around screaming out for a high end class 59 to pull them ASAP but no one seems to want to take that step!
  11. Some great ideas on this thread and some interesting discussions..... Hornby do make another very good diesel loco which im surprised gets little mention on this thread, and they could churn out 100s of different numbers and liveries, that being of course the 08 shunter, a model that if Hornby were to learn carried more liveries than BR Blue & Green, they would sell loads of.... I personally am expecting (and hoping) they produce either 08785 or 08891 in the new Freightliner/G&W Orange livery, its a bright new livery which i think Hornby might go for. I could run off a monumental list of other liveries they could do that would appeal, as im sure everyone could. RSS livery is another that springs to mind. Going back to (squint a bit) Freightliner, ive been getting very frustrated with Dapol and waiting for their class 59 to appear, there being as far as i can tell no real reason for its continued delay....... until someone mentioned on here that a Hornby class 59 EP sample was spied on the tele????? Im wondering now if Dapol know Hornby (or are suspecting) Hornby is doing a version and avoiding putting theirs into production to avoid duplication of what is a class of only 15 locos? Revolution are producing a cracking looking model of the 59 in N gauge and when ive asked if they will do it in 00, the answer was a very simple No! Do they know that Hornby & Dapol are both or one or the other potentially about to bring one out, are Hornby doing the same with the 59 as they done with the 91 and stopping someone else from stealing 'their' model?????? As a class 59 fan, and someone who will be buying plenty of them, this has got very interesting. And lastly, several people have been suggesting reliveries on the class 43, but so far everyone (including Hornby) are missing an open goal and obvious choice.... That being the EMR/EMT/LNER class 43s with Colas branding, no need to buy 7, 8, or 9 mk3s to go inbetween those, Hornby already make plenty of Network Rail vehicles to go between them!
  12. Im getting annoyed at how long its taking to get this class 59 produced, it wouldnt be so bad if Dapol were to give an update or something, but nothing, they may as well have not announced it, to me its like they just dont care about either the model or the waiting customers. I asked Revolution if they would upscale their N gauge class 59 (which looks brilliant) to OO gauge and they said 'no', as it would be a kick in the teeth to their friends in Wales, well if Revolution manage to get their N gauge version designed, built and onto shop shelves before we hear anything on the Dapol model then its a kick i think they ought to give.
  13. Instead of doing 33208 in 'Railtour' Dutch (whatever that is, its the railtour bit im confused with) im wondering if doing it in BR Green with headlight as per its preserved mainline operating days might produce more sales??? Not that it matters, if its in Dutch i'll buy it anyway!
  14. I just had to have a look.... my instruction manual is the same, says class 60 on the front but when you open it all the illustrations are for the class 31! Its a poor show from Hornby i feel, the class 60 was once without doubt the best ready to run diesel out there, given how good RTR diesels are from manufactures these days im surprised Hornby are letting stadards drop on the 60 as it still could be classed as one of the best.
  15. I was a bit irritated tbh, but as i said in my original post, buying some off Ebay was the quickest, easiest and cheapest way of getting some. The cost of buying it was a hard pill to swallow if im honest, i remember the first one i purchased many years ago when Hornby first made the class 60, 60026 in EW&S livery (i also went on to buy the Mainline & Loadhaul releases), i paid less than £100 for each, this one was £190!!!!!
  16. Wow...... how the hell has this layout/topic avoided me, i'll be following this with interest. I'll also be looking forward to seeing it at an exibition one day. I go in and out of Whatley quarry on a regular basis so this is all very interesting, its interesting to see how somethings have changed yet others are still the same to this day. I notice in some of the pics that mainline locos are going under the road bridge and into the main quarry..... ive only been going into Whatley for the last 18 months-2 years and ive never seen this happen, the closest i have seen is a Freightliner class 66 go under the bridge and venture as far as the HGV weighbridge, but it quickly went back to the depot side, the 08s were regulars when the US Switcher 120 was out of use, but No120 is pretty much all i see in the quarry these days, which is fine, the shear size of the thing and the noise it makes is always a pleasure. (same applies for No44 at Torr Works) Were mainline locos regular into the quarry? And what is with the class 25 in some of the pics, ive never seen or heard of one visiting the line before? I doubt todays scene in the quarry is of any use to you but if they are let me know, i have plenty of photos. Oddly ive never made the time to walk out to the road bridge and view the depot, i must put that wrong to rights one day.
  17. Ive just purchased Hornbys CAPPAGH liveried class 60 60028. My model hasn't got the snow ploughs/air dams fitted to it, nor are they in the detailing bag, however the ploughs that have the slot for the coupling are in the pack. Just wondered if ive been given an incomplete model or detailing pack or if anyone else has had this issue? The loco came unopened, still in its cardboard box with plastic bubble wrapping etc. Having thought it through i decided to go on Ebay and buy some, they only cost a few pounds, far less than the fuel i would use taking it back to my local model shop, which i cant do until next weekend anyway, the ones from ebay will arrive during the week. Just thought id ask the question out of curiosity, see if anyone else has had the issue, and if anyone else is buying one, might be worth checking before leaving the shop.
  18. Don't forget that some of the euro 66s used to have aircon units mounted on the roofs, these would have been removed before coming to the UK, so some cab roofs may well look slightly diffrent depending on what work has been done to them.
  19. Having got 'the first pic' of 66623 on my 40th birthday as it came out of Eastleigh works after its repaint into orange (the photo was published on WNXX) i would without a shadow of doubt of purchased one. I was gutted when i seen the completely wrong shade of orange on the model and ruled it out straight away.
  20. Id rather Accurascale upscaled their rather brilliant looking N gauge version to 00 gauge to be honest, fed up with waiting for Dapol.
  21. Fareham is also a good terminal to get inspiration from, a very small terminal around the back of the station car park, one siding that is reversed into and unloaded by mechanical grab, you can (and i speak from experiance) just about do a U turn in an articulated tipper in there, just to give you some idea how compact it is. As for the model 59, Revolution please im begging you upscale it to OO gauge, my patience with Dapol has pretty much expired, i have a rake of 18 of your Mendip Rail JNAs sat here, a rake of 15 of Accurascale ARC tipplers and when your Mendip HOAs finally materialise (any news on them?) i will also buy a rake...... but i have sweet FA 59 shaped to put on the front, at the moment they just see use behind a Hattons FL 66 and Hornby class 60. Please make a OO gauge version!!!!!
  22. Yes, same here..... On my 40th birthday on my way to a friends for a drink (or several) i got the word 66623 was emerging from Eastleigh in its new coat of orange paint, so off i went to the station to see it, very few enthusiasts about and im fairly sure i got the first photo of it on the mainline returning to Southampton Maritime, which i then sent to WNXX who used the pic on their news page. A nice little 40th treat for myself, Hattons 66623 would have been my first purchase had they got the colour right. As it stands i only have the one so far (66957), if Hattons done some more, id certainly be in the que to purchase, especially Freightliner examples.
  23. Tanks aside what is the model like, is it identical to the version Heljan themselves done not that long ago or have they corrected the livery errors, namely changed the white stripe and window surrounds to cream?
  24. Ive had posts popping up on my Facebook this week from Hattons advertising two new class 33s from Olivias Trains. One being 33012 'as preserved' as D6515 in BR Green. The other as 33035 in NSE livery. Both of these have been done by Heljan before, i already have 33035, but i missed out on D6515 as i wasnt happy about the the shade of 'white' around the windows etc which as we all know should be cream. So my question is, are these Olivia trains models just repeats of what Heljan done, or are they all new? From the pics ive seen, they look exactly the same?
