  1. Wow the brake gear under the real loco must have been complicated, to get a decent pull on the middle driver would have required a number of levers.
  2. After nearly a year of doing anything and 10 months of posting anything I have bought the wheels, gearbox and motor for the DMR Z class that is waiting in the wings. Haven't tried building a etched kit for a few years (I built a Mallard Models 517 class in the 70's) it maybe a bit of a learning curve: -
  3. I recently phoned in an order, was really pleased that Markits knew when I last ordered (been a couple of years); we then had a chat about heritage steam and finalised the order. Products arrived well packaged and are always of the highest quality.
  4. Good to see you and the layout yesterday. 😁 Here are a couple of pictures I took: -
  5. Jason I saw Bacup pop up in my "following list" and got excited that the layout had been resurrected; I remember you saying you had saved the majority of the buildings and hoped. Sadly they are only historic photos of this magnificent layout and it is still no more! 😪
  6. Thanks Dave for sharing your experience and knowledge, I'm sure I'm not the only one that find your posts inspiring. I must get my bum into gear and finish off the three kits I am the process of building.
  7. That is really nice Michael, it would work nicely on my little shunting layout. 😉
  8. Micheal I couldn't find a mention of it, is the C14 built from a kit or scratch built?
  9. I'm a poor pensioner with an old screen, little money and bad eyesight, what can I say!😵😪😉
  10. I am using Firefox running under Windows 10, screen resolution is 1280x1024: - This is how the screen looks like this: - I am guessing if I used a different resolution the video might encroach more or less into the forum display.
  11. I am considering dumping RMWeb as I do not mind ads, but since you included the ad-blocker check I keep getting this annoying Digitrains video in the bottom right-hand side of the screen which is distracting from the use of the site, it isn't even limited to the gutter on the right-hand side set aside for adverts. It covers navigation links and buttons making the site difficult to use.
  12. Hi Jack, I hope you're keeping well, I have been quiet on the forum for sometime but had to comment on this. The workshop is coming along well, hope the spring rain keeps off long enough for you to finish it. You're L class looks in good shape, did you move the chassis mounting backwards or did it not need it (mine was 2mm too far forward)?

Hi John, I always used to call it a vacuum pump, but I have been told by my betters that you cannot pump a vacuum, you pump air out of a vessel to create a vacuum. So I guess it is only semantics really. Kevin, I have been looking for a close-up photo of the pump on a 28xx and have come up with the section of a photo of 2807. The pump is bolted to the back of the strengthened footstep and is driven by the cross-head with a triangular bracket. Sorry it isn't the best, but hopefully you will get the idea.

Kevin, 2844 seems to have lost its air pump from behind the footstep?
  15. Steve It's good to hear that your starting on the road to recovery, it must be hard to come back from such a blow. I know I was really dismayed to hear the news of the theft, I hope more comes from the search and recovery of some of the original stock. I have missed seeing updates on this wonderful layout, keep the faith. 👍😁
  16. The system has been relocated to Ireland and is no longer available.
  17. Dear All My friend is clearing out a relations model railway equipment and has a boxed Airfix Multiple Train Control System, it is complete with 4 controllers and multiple locomotive units (in DCC terms, loco decoders). It will be free to a good home, please PM me.
  18. Steve I am still absolutely stunned by your artistry, these signals are works of art. Keep up the good work. 😁
  19. Hi Jack Looking really good, I like the pipework attached to the chassis, I have attached the sand pipes to the chassis on a couple of builds. How is the motor support attached to the chassis?
  20. Jack, I have re-uploaded some of the pictures on the recent posts so you should be able to see some of the recent work (although most of this is over a year old as I have had a bit of a hiatus due to lack of mojo). Jack, I have re-uploaded some photos (I may do more as time and mojo allows), I have created a plasti-kard box to represent the ashpan which, once black, I am hoping will fill the gap.
  21. Hi Andy Which way up do you put the magnets for the uncouplers? You've amazed me again, another layout and change of time period, do you sell off all the rolling stock or keep it for a possible later project?
  22. Hi Jack Not sure but your L class it may be suffering from the same issue mine was, the chassis is around 2mm (scale 6") too far forwards. The vertical centre line rear driving wheels should be 16mm (4') from the rear buffer plank. There is a general arrangement drawing around somewhere that shows this dimension. I am not generally someone who compares my builds to the original drawings, but I do find that the kit looks the part and other than the position of the chassis I do not find it too bad. I am going to see if I can find some of the photos from the posts above that seem to have been lost as part of the recent forum issue.
  23. Not posted anything since this time last year, I haven't really done any modelling in that time although I have bought and been gifted some bits and pieces. The biggest of which is a Ortur Laser Master 2 laser cutter, hopefully when I get the urge to go modelling again I'm going to start laser cutting building base sections to use with textures from the likes of Scalescenes. Still monitoring the site on a daily basis so watching and enjoying everybody's progress.

Tim I believe they were known as "Baby Castles", not sure why.
  25. Hi Jack I must have missed something over this thread, is your layout EM already or are you branching out to the gauge? The W is looking good, not sure the rods look chunky, but that may my eyesight! As far as the H is concerned, unless you have already catered for this, are the two coupling rods the same, have they inadvertently swapped sides perhaps?
