  1. pretty much the whole of that side of the main road from the hotel up was all railway ground, i remember that side was a big thorn hedge all the way from the hotel up to where the old laundry stood just beford station drive, and behind was all pretty derelict. CADMRC built a layout of Craven Arms, as it was in its heyday.
  2. Years ago when we were members of Craven Arms and district model railway circle the club house was at the back of the old cattle market . Access was from the dead end of market street where the Fryer Freemans the chippy was which was as much part of club night as building railways!! The club is still happily going but the old market area has long since gone. It used to be opposite the end of Clun road however it has all changed beyond recognition now
  3. From Fryer Freeman’s ! ( more Craven Arms history)
  4. That was also a factor yes. I believe the rebalance was necessary which ever way led!!
  5. Was going to tin first , thanks for the confirmation of my thoughts.
  6. Thanks @Andy Keane, that’s what my thoughts were.
  7. Tha Cambrian had their Jones Goods class all built as left hand lead rather than the conventional Right handed. Apparently they used to be prone to derailment and several accidents occurred. After the grouping Swindon made the all RH lead and they proved to be very competent locos with a bit more power than the Dean Goods.
  8. I’m just finishing off the chassis to an old Cotswold 4700, I need to solder lost wax castings in brass to white metal, assuming it’s best to clean and tin the brass plenty then heat the brass with the iron until the joint fuses.
  9. As @Neal Ball found, once assembled thus ,his chassis rolled easily. So there is a reason for assembly as per prototype.
  10. I’d also be interested in the wooden coaches to go with the ones I have.
  11. @MrWolf Thanks, Commers i know about and Transits, The BMCs of this period i always found a bit confusing, Yes back to trains now, the517 is looking good.
  12. indeed the Roxey Kit is miles ahead of the old Wills version, the loco id decided on will be too much hassle to build from the Wills kit whereas the Roxey gives the round top firebox and Wolverhampton Bunker! Hmm till need to identify which loco to build from the Wills Kit. No 1500 is a possibility.
  13. Looks like a duplicate of the Wills Medium Metro kit. That’s a pity as the larger Metro looks a bit of a beast.
  14. @Andy KeaneThat was a good buy I should think. I have an unbuilt one in the tuit pile. I also have an agnoria GWR 813 to build some time too, that would be of interest to some on here I’m sure.
  15. Weren’t these sold as the 250 JU later alongside the J4 etc all swept away in about 1974 when the Sherpa was launched.
  16. Sorry for taking the subject off topic but it seems there is plenty of interest in these odd locos from the period. If that is a Roxey large Mero then 3593 could be built from it as it is the same up to the front of the cab. Extend the footplate, new Cab and bunker. Hmmm another project after the 3521 . The Jackson Evans 3900s come up occasionally on that auction site but fetch silly money.
  17. I think I’ve decided that I’m going to build mine as no 617 as I’ve a couple of photos of it in mid 20s condition and it was the only metro allocated to the central wales division. According to RCTS it was an Aber loco.
  18. Do Roxley do a large Metro Kit ?? That is what 3593 started out as?

  20. That’s the one, I’ve found the photos I was looking for but left the phone camera at work last night . Doh!!!
  21. Loco was metro no 3593 , I’m sure you will find something on the net!
  22. I will look it up later and screenshot it. Can’t even remember the number now. It might have been in one of the Great Western albums published by Ian Allan or the GW miscellany books by Bradford Barton. you will have to look on eBay for Craftsman 3600 , they do come up occasionally.
  23. I was looking at a photo of the unique 2-4-2 metro tank in one of my books and the photo was taken at Twyford with the train headed to Henley. There’s a scratch build for you after the Wills Metro! Could use the SEF chassis to get you started!!
