  1. I am building a model of Welshpool Station as it was in 1950s, the main layout is under construction using Peco Bullhead track in OO gauge. Im hoping to include the terminus of the W&LLR coming across Smithfield Road into the cattle Dock and also into the goods yard. My Question is regarding the dual gauge track in the cattle dock. Does anyone have an easy way to make 3 rail track? If not i guess it will be copper clad sleepers and rail, some of it will be buried under the concrete drainage channels. I have 2 Golden Arrow loco kits to build to provide the motive power, all the OO gauge motive power will be predominantly kit built, i also have a Cattle wagon kit i think by ninelines, are they or any W&LLR rolling stock available? As long as i keep my curves reasonably gentle i'm hoping to run my old N gauge diesels , mainly Lima and Farish, im assuming they will be ok on Peco OO9 track, just to allow them to run occasionally. I also have from years ago a GEM Dolgoch body kit, ideally i need a chassis for it, but not sure what it should even be, If someone could tell me what it should be i will see what is around on Ebay or source a more modern alternative. New to OO9 but looking forward to the challenges! I suspect the Earl and the Countess will be somewhat more fiddly than a mainline loco, currently got a DJH 8F in the works however the OO9 kits look interesting. I picked up on Ebay a couple of years ago a freelance 0 4 0 brass kitbuild that looked close enough to the Earl/Countess to pass, until i found the Golden Arrow kits. It has an XT60 motor but wondered what its provenance was. Will try and add a picture later. Thanks in advance Russell
  2. Haven't been on here lately, a lot has happened in that Welshpool is now going to be housed in a insulated shed built to house the layout, giving a station area of up to 24 foot, so it is based on 3 4x8 boards , with the rest of the layout being built around the shed giving a continuos running length of approximately 70 feet, baseboards are all built, the basic track plan has been set out, using Peco Bullhead track and some basic testing of all my locos which have been in storage since the mid 80s. Whilst Welshpool has been chosen as it is my home town, it does give some interest besides the Cambrian Line it was the terminus for the Shrewsbury- Welshpool line, giving some LMS/LNWR stock to appear. It was also the terminus for the W&LLR giving some more interest. Since Lockdown i have been busy with finishing off loads of kit Built locos which have now been able to be run on the layout and run in. Interestingly the kit builds all seem happier running on the Bullhead track than the off scene code 100 streamline through the non scenic, fiddleyard/ storage areas. If there is interest then i will start a thread on the layout and its progress, ive not had a proper layout since 1982 so ive lots to learn about layout construction.
  3. Just reading through this thread, vey impressive modelling, as for the bus livery, Chuffnell Regis must be served by Yeomans!
  4. I am fairly certain it is Hamblings, I have several very similar, did you do anything with it?
  5. I’m sure you will do a lovely job of 530, don’t forget you need to alter the base of the smoke box too as the 1400 had a drumhead type. There is a lot to do to BCR No1 but it is mainly tidying up now, it was one of my first schoolboy attempts at white metal soldering so lots to tidy up, No 1 also had a round topped firebox too
  6. This should be your next Aston loco , my current project is rebuilding this Ks 44XX as Craven Arms Sheds 4406 , mainly used on the longville line, ideal Clun Valley engine. I believe the Clun Valley buses back then were all over green, I have a photo of AAW14 outside Craven Arms Station which I will find.
  7. McGowan 517 and BCR no 1, lots still to do to no1 yet
  8. My Earl Cawdor has a Triang B12 body shell suitably shortened and sits on a modified Ks Duke footplate.. Triang Polly provided a chassis. Just been catching up as I’ve not been on here lately, I did chuckle about the “modern image” well the real Aston hasn’t changed much since the 1930s . For my Birthdays back in 1982 we went for a trip on the Central Wales and had a class 120 for the way down to Swansea, however the return journey provided a little surprise in the form of 140 001 on trials!!! Glad to get back to Craven Arms!!! So your pacers relatives have worked through Broome. I don’t think any production ones worked around Mid Wales though. Watching the 517 too, I’m doing a McGowan 517 into BCR no 1.
  9. Just found this thread, my father and I built our second layout in a 1964 Bedford SB Duple Bella Vega, which was great until the summer of 1976 did its worst to the track, it buckled in every direction!! Plan B was to build a layout in a caravan , a large old 1960s van which worked better until one afternoon in January 1982 when tha wind blew the caravan over!! I was in it at the time too!!! Not funny when the door is in the ceiling!! I have now 40 years later just built a new 30 x 12 foot railway shed in which I’m constructing a fairly accurate model of Welshpool station. Some of my rolling stock hasn’t run since then until now.
  10. Thank you , will try it as the grub screw can’t lock it sufficiently on its own.
  11. Anyone had problems with Markits 2.0 mm worms not staying tight on the motor shaft? The motor is a Mashima 1420 I think. Bit reluctant to put glue on it but will do so if need be.
  12. Is that the SR EMU? if so ihave a tatty example which runs fine and has the frame with the third rail shoe cast into it.
  13. Had an evening of Peaks and Jouefs, decided to go with repro tyres which are now fitted and haulage capacity is restored. Four mainline Peaks and a Jouef Class 40 all happy runners again.
  14. I have several Mainline Class 45s and a Jouef Class 40 all of which run very well. All being 40 plus years old have had their tyres disintegrate and wondered before i replace them whether Bullfrog Snot is a better alternative. Im not interested in upgrading the mechs as all run fine and arent regular layout locos being kept for sentimental reasons, but would hope that all could do a turn as and when. I bought them all new so know them quite well. TIA for suggestions
  15. i put in what its worth to me, regardless of above or below what the seller wants, Some have been accepted for less than the asking price, but its that or stick out for what they want, there was a Ks grange on for 140, and i offered 70 i think, subsequently bought one for about 40. The original one is still available for 140!!!, Scrap Ks Mogul on for about 30 and bought for about a tenner so you takes your chance!
  16. I think if you tell rti what you need he will do what he can, he isn’t restricted to what’s in the list
  17. that would be about right i would think. I would also be looking at fox transfers too
  18. Shropshire did yux in 1962 then in 1963 started at****AW etc , I think there were possibly some genuine 1963 AAW***A then AAW ***B from 1964.
  19. 1934 would I believe have been UJ****. Interesting ly UX seems to have been used before UJ. UJ 5626 was a 1935 Bedford of Carpenters Bishops Castle Whilst Clun Valley had AAW 14 on a 1937 Bedford too.
  20. Yes road transport images do them, RUX would be 1959/60
  21. Does the 3 wheeler have a nice uj or ux reg no . Shropshire went on to AAW in 1936/7 so AAW even?
  22. I remember in the early 70s my mother having a twin tub which like others remember having a mind of it own, came home from primary school to find a brand new Indesit space age washing machine, however she also had an ancient Flatley clothes drier which survived and I think outlived the new washing machine. What a useful old thing that was, dread to think how fast it would make the leccy meter spin though!!!
  23. Indeed I saw the 3100, seeing how the Ks 4400 is coming along too, giving me some motivation to get my 4400 finished too.
