  1. Some of my family History, fathers Garage in the early days, spot the Clun Valley Bedford SB in for work too
  2. Top pic, 9017 waits in the bay , whilst Lydham Manor pauses in the up platform, 2409 to become 2538 is shunting in the goods shed. lower pic shows the goods yard with the Earl trying out some old N gauge track.
  3. i think we are at similar stages, ive just marked out most of my trackwork positions so i can add the turntable and point motors etc before i finally brace the boards, if i braced them first i would find everywhere i need to go through would foul something or other!! I ought to go and put up some progress pics on my Welshpool thread.
  4. To add to the recent discussion, I acquired via Ebay a nicely worked up example. However upon unpacking it became obvious that the pest had been busy. The chassis is fine and runs lovely. At Newark toyfair I bought a new old stock bodyshell which has made a nice loco. I shall rescue the brass boiler fittings and etched number plates and scrap the body,
  5. That’s the basis of Severn Road bridge and the exit through the back scene being built at the far end. Turntable hole cut out in the baseboard. Just rigging up the means to power the turntable, have an expo tools motorising kit which may do the job. Unsure about the survival of the gearbox yet though.
  6. Little bit more mocking up of trackwork. As it will be a representation rather than totally accurate the track plan is being devised from what was there in its heyday with modifications to suit The model version.
  7. Is it the version with a single driven axle or both axles driven?? I have both types but both now have modified Triang power bogies fitted.
  8. I work with Aluminium quite a bit so used to some of its quirks. Was planning to key the surfaces plenty. Thanks Russell
  9. I have just dug out my BSL Autocoach to build. First question is the best method of attaching white metal to the Aluminium. I’m guessing an epoxy may well be best. Thanks in advance Russell
  10. I’m thinking it will be a bit front heavy, That said the only 240 I have built a few years ago was the GEM Cambrian 1196 which does need its spring on the leading wheels. I dug out the kit last night and noted the SEF chassis appears to be able to have slotted axle boxes without separate hornblocks. I guess the axles are supported by the floating beams. I also have a Comet chassis kit for a 14xx which could do to be built compensated.
  11. Having seen your coach building. i think you will be fine. My bugbear is getting the pick ups to look tidy and above all work reliably. The metro is a good little starter loco to do, that said after seeing some of your coach building i have also dug out my BSL autocoach which i do wonder about. mind i have no instructions with it either so not too sure if its all there or not.
  12. I shall be following with interest too, i have an unbuilt finecast kit and the S E etched chassis kit and a mashima motor. I have built plenty of loco kits but nothing compensated so will see how you get on. I think the Metro is a prototype that needs a compensated chassis.
  13. My other hobby is building models of all fathers coach fleet through the years, I actually bought a few EFEs and similar , although all will have dates with the paint stripper and hacksaw to produce models of things we had. Plenty of choice out on the tables at toyfairs!
  14. Seen at the water tower before the Severn Road Bridge is Bachmann Dukedog 9017.
  15. I have the remains of 2 Ks Dean goods to build a Jones Goods. The boiler needs raising by 2mm compared to the Dean and a new cab making. My “ go to” is building white metal loco kits.
  16. Now what’s a Scottish Loco doing in Welshpool? DJH Caley Jumbo in need of refurbishment, I think ‘this as the basis of a nice Aston Goods .
  17. Looks like 7803 may be a contender for the Aber treatment, it will be another M& L kitbuilt one which needs a light refurbishment.
  18. I’ve already got the locos, hence my initial decision to stay DC. It is effectively going to be a double track oval with storage sidings, the goods yard and loco siding so not too complex. That I think is a good reason to stay DC .
  19. That’s only what I’ve read up on, Hinton I believe was the other early manor in the area, which stayed in the area most of its life,
  20. Mainly 1950s, was planning to build it in its heyday but could run other eras as long as I can accept some inaccuracies, ie full track layout if running BR blue era as about the most extreme case.
  21. The Metcalfe LNWR signal box is very similar to the original LNWR box that was stood at the North End of the station.
  22. Just as likely to be seen in Welshpool is LMS 3f arriving with a local from Shrewsbury.
  23. A couple of photos from a test running session. First up is 7806 Cockington Manor , a loco which wasn’t shedded on the Cambrian much, but was apparently the first Manor to reach the Coast in 1943. seen here at the head of an Oswestry bound train.
