  1. I was intending to doll up a manor to Aber standards, maybe need to check on the allocation history for Barcote Manor as she might be a suitable candidate
  2. I think my biggest worry is that the majority of my loco fleet are white metal kit builds with current return via the chassis and non insulated wheels which I believe DCC needs both motor brushes connected to the chip and insulated return. If that is the case then that alone rules out DCC as I’ve too many locos. Most of the above list are on the roster, there are 4 M&L manors alone. Then to add to that list is the LNW/ LMS stock which worked the Shrewsbury line.
  3. Hoping to build it as it was from the 20s through to the fifties to maximise operating potential. Not fixed period as such but run different eras to add interest. Ive started a thread in layout topics but it’s early days yet.
  4. I haven’t totally ruled out DCC but I think I need to see if I can reduce to a minimum which locos to authentically run on the layout and maybe dcc those and build a separate test track to run older stuff on. Lots to think about.
  5. Pm me and it can join your superb Triang Conversions, couple of bunkers from 3 mts should give you the bits. I’ll send a pile of chassis bits too. I only wanted some of the motion, but used other chassis bits. I’ve a couple of damaged princess bodies too if you can use them.
  6. Acquired this yesterday, Newark Toyfair loco body a quid!! To make up a worthwhile haul from the junk box, then later off another stall a brand new sealed Bachmann replacement non split type chassis!! Plenty of these through Welshpool under LMR control. Tender is an ancient Airfix job that might upgrade for it.
  7. A look at the basic layout with some track temporary in place to see how it all fits . I intend to get all the track placed loosely before cork is added or any wiring done. The view through the railway door is looking from the Oswestry end towards the coast. The platforms will hold 9 coach trains.
  8. Hello I’ve been reading on here some layout threads and how people help and interact, so I thought I’d add some of mine. I started in the usual way working up through various layouts until a disaster struck. More on that later, however all was packed away in 1983 until recently. I had ideas years ago to build something based on Oswestry however those ambitions were never realised. The introduction of the Bachmann Dukedog and Oxford Dean goods probably got my attention enough to get back to railways, I had decided a model of Welshpool would be good for many reasons on a personal level and it is an interesting junction with both GW and LMS motive power in attendance. I will be staying 12v dc control because I have too many locos. There will also be plenty of non prototypical running too but that will be excersise other stock. After a recent house move I was able to build a shed to house the railway and construction has started.
  9. This one. im off to set up a thread to deal with my layout shortly.
  10. Back to eBay , I bought that princess converted to a tank engine which got a bit of a roasting on here for a maiden bid . Someone on here was interested in the body shell after I’d had the chassis bits. If still interested then pm me with an address and I’ll post. In fairness it’s been done nicely and it could do with a bunker adding maybe from a couple of Triang 3 mts and it’s a good representation of a 2 6 4 t . The boiler and front end have all been cut to the right length.
  11. I also have a Bachmann Dukedog and it is a lovely loco which can just about manage a reasonable length train. Mind I prefer building re building kits so most of my locos are heavy old beasts . I’ll have to start a layout thread where I can share some pictures and knowledge.
  12. I recently bought a series 2A Landrover through eBay, a dealer initially outbid me so fine, I’ll keep looking through the dross till something I like comes up, anyway long story short it reappeared and I ignored it as I wasn’t buying it out of principle off the dealer who outbid me, few weeks later it reappeared with a different seller at a figure which was in line with my original bid plus the VAT. (It’s a12 seater safari) so I still bought it, however someone had not calculated the vat from the original seller was to be added!! Talking to the chap I bought it off it seems the dealer had to lose vat by the sound of it. Upshot is I got the motor at my money whilst the get rich quick merchants came unstuck. Over the VAT issue.
  13. Yes indeed, I don’t really do modern rtr as I have a lovely collection of models that go back to the late 40s, running on 12v dc!! I do have an Oxford Dean goods but it can’t pull anything!!! Also on 1/2 wave power it takes off like a scalded cat, in comparison I have a prarie that utilises a Farish body on top of a hand built chassis with a Romford 7 pole flywheel motor, running the two side by side. The 70 year old loco can outperform the new one at slow speed. I think I’ve been lucky in that otherwise my Dean runs nicely which doesn’t seem to be the norm.
  14. I’ve just found the tender belonging to an Airfix mogul I tried to build when I was about 9. Comet chassis kit and I think I’ve got a complete loco, the body is unmarked in black by.
  15. Indeed, when I bought the Siphon the trader says make it up to a fivers worth as I had a fiver to give him , so I added a couple of coopercraft wagons and a nice Gaiety pannier body shell and a Bachmann standard class 4 body so basically a quid an item!! I’ve plenty of old Triang Jinties so will select a tatty one with early couplings to go under the pannier!! Then 20 mins or so on another stall was a brand new still factory sealed Bachmann replacement non split chassis for £25 so I had that and got a standard class 4 now that just needs a tender.
  16. I bought a rake of 3 at a toy fair yesterday for £4 the lot . They are fairly well built and painted! The best buy I thought was a nicely built jidenco Siphon needing a bit of attention to the roof for £1.
  17. Does anyone know where i might source a full set of wheels for mine as the pest has got to mine? if i cant source any then i shall either turn out a set of my own on the lathe or modify something to fit. Thanks
  18. Lots of useful bits there. I dug out my Dads old Airfix 1466 the other night, replaced the plunger pick ups, sorted out the Back to backs and it now runs very sweetly, just need to tidy up the broken cab handrails and a missing buffer and hopefully another serviceable loco from the scrap pile. it was bought by Dad from Vaughans in Oswestry as soon as they came out but it has been so troublesome its hardly ever run.
  19. Good Stuff, home is Welshpool, then moved to Bishops Castle, overlooking the old station. Carlisle is in the roundtuit pile.
  20. Yes, not really a welshpool loco but it will be Craven Arms 4406 which worked the Wenlock Line, i suppose it might have got to Welshpool from Shrewsbury on a fill in turn. its just had an overhaul, jncluding replacing the ks mk II motor and rubbish gears with a 1950s Romford 7 pole series IV motor and integral gearbox, lovely smooth slow runner and very powerful loco with its tiny wheels, also have Mach,s 4575 on the roster which is similarly specced, far better than the Ks mechanicals ever were. The pair of them will creep along, barely noticeable that they are moving.
  21. A blurry pic of the built loco i have, The Hercules nameplate maybe belongs to a Class 47.
  22. Excellent, looks like a few orders heade in that direction, many, many Thanks, im learning so much about OO9 at the moment.
  23. Excellent, i shall have a poke about in Ebay. Many Thanks, save trying to make the stuff.
