  1. I have a built westward 5400 pannier and an unbuilt double railcar, oh and lots of westward Plaxton supremes and Dominants. All are excellent kits , the pannier is very closely related to the Cotswold 1600 and 2021 and certainly the same master builder.
  2. Maybe it’s time to build an old wills crab or southern u class, technically these need the valve gear but I’d fit scale wheels and valve gear.
  3. Its a Graham Farish Body, the mech i think is homebuilt!! Hamblings Wheels GF Cylinders and motion. Question is has the body been infested with pest? I have one with a rather delicate body,
  4. Haven’t tried it yet!!!! The front wheels will be a pony truck effectively, although there isn’t much sideways movement. I guess it will stay most of the time in the Display cabinet along with some of my other early GW stuff. The choice of 3021 Wigmore Castle is based on the fact I lived in the village for 10 years rather than the prototype and its notorious reputation.
  5. Bit of plastic bashing, no nice tidy locos have been harmed, turning scrap into useful locos again., Earl Cawdor Progress , Armstrong And 3021 Wigmore Castle back as a 2-2-2. These were Both rather distressed examples of the Triang Dean Single.Oh and an even rougher one was broken up to provide bits, although that one may live again in the form of something else too.
  6. Pic of complete loco, made 1976 and bought new from Hattons so as supplied new.
  7. Not sure without checking but my 1972Evening Star has 6 traction tyres, however my 1976 LMS 5112 Black 5 has the Fleischmann style motor still but only two traction tyres and split pick up between loco and tender which detach. 1974 Oliver Cromwell I think has the 6 tyres and permanently coupled but possibly 2 tyres. Would need to check. Can’t remember what my D1738 is like however I have a 1977 47421 which has the same spec motor as the black 5. I guess D1520 of 1976 will be the same. By 1978 the later ring field prevails across the range. It would appear that some changes were introduced during 1975/6 before the motor unit got changed.
  8. Maybe we should buy milk off eBay, that would be eBay madness!!
  9. I have recently acquired my first Hornby B12 as a keeper. She was a bit knocked about body wise but tender and chassis were fine so fitted a nice body out of the spares box, as I’ve used loads of these over the years under Gem and Wills Whitemetal kits including a couple of Cardeans. The bashed about body off this latest one is minus its smoke box door and I could do with one. The bashed about body is on its way to becoming a Great Western loco!!!! Yes and not freelance either. James Holden it seems tome may have been behind the experimental GWR Earl Cawdor and a quick look at Cyril Freezers drawing of Earl Cawdor and the B12 show lots of likeness. I’ve already shortened the body of the B12 and plan to use a Ks footplate and outside frames to add weight where it is needed on a 440. Should be some straightforward plastic surgery.
  10. Ours is the Modern Milkman, all web based!! Maybe the wheel has gone full circle!!
  11. Indeed we still have milk in glass bottles with old fashioned foil tops. Still delivered to the door too!
  12. the only incidence in my collection of way way too many locos of zinc pest, is a weight in my Lima 9400 which was removed and substituted with some lead sheet!!
  13. Thank you Grifone, I have an early prarie which would have been a 2 pole, however when it was built , its builder built it on a nice scratchbuilt brass chassis with Romford Series V motor and romford wheels. From the same stable came a King also on a Brass Chassis, with a Romford series IV Motor and Hamblings wheels, i am currently rebuilding this to run again, the original tender minus motor survives but will be replaced with a Dublo Tender for use. Another i have from the same stable is a GP5 which other than romford wheels and scale valve gear is fairly original and still powered by the GF motor which goes like the clappers!! A number of years ago we acquired in a Triang Job lot another GP5 Body( i guess the chassis succumbed to the pest and the rest dumped! ) This now sits on a Triang B12 Chassis block with Ks chassis extensions Cylinders and motion, Romford wheels with Mainly trains rods, powered by a Hornby Ringfield in a Ks Tender which has made a nice heavy loco which looks the part!. I have several Graham Farish locos all a bit like the various Series II and III Landrovers ive owned in that all have been repowered!! i shall check to see if it i 5 pole, also will open up an R1 for a comparison.
  14. 9400 is the pannier tank. I suspect later production prarie s used the same chassis block anyway.
  15. I have a tatty damaged but repairable L1 body and Tender if any use for your chassis. I’ve just put a really nice body on my one so it is rather tidy now.
  16. Does anyone know the approximate production dates of the 9400 and any changes to date them! Also does anyone have one to show a picture of the motor fitted. I have 3 one has an Airfix MRRC 1001 fitted, one has an ECM type 2 and one has what looks like a Dublo 1/2 inch motor but it may be the original? Thanks
  17. I think I’ve just had a good buy from Rocket Railways, a Westward Duple Dominant coach kit looks mint in original packaging. See what postie brings?? I will be happy if it as it seems!
  18. Thanks for the replies, I guess what I was thinking of were the LHP transfers. I have a Britannia done with Airfix transfers. Looks like it is out with the Bowpen.
  19. In my shed as well as the railway live my 1933 Fordson N and 1947 Massey Harris 44k
  20. I have been going through my extensive Triang Hornby fleet servicing and remagging where needed, ive also been tidying up chipped paintwork with black paint or relining boiler bands where needed, however several of the Princess Fleet , Victorias , Green Lizzies and Red Royals could do with the tender and cabside lining renewing. Does anyone do repro lining kits for theese as they were not tampo printed?? Also cabside lining numbers for Britannia?? Does anyone have a spare set of the alternative names and cabside numbers as ive several Britannias, maybe one of the options supplied in the early 70s?? I have Oliver Cromwell though. There are people on that auction site doing repro stuff and ive used several items, howver i would like to tidy up the princesses if possible! They all run so well still
  21. I had a Bristol Models one too which wasnt too bad either. the loco body got destroyed years ago in a misfortune but the tender lives on behind a Wrenn Castle.
  22. Indeed Nellie has been used to power several Airfix Cities! I have a Nellie Chassis here that is due to go under a Ks Duke shortly. There are many options here but I wouldn’t even consider the Baccy option.
