  1. Looking at the instructions and the images on the Brassmaster site it looks like they're glued to the back of the steps
  2. I'm not overly knowledgable about these things but do you happen to have a photo of the part in question?
  3. I was only thinking about Hornbys 50 recently. Went on ebay to get one on the cheap for a repaint only to find they are still crazy expensive. If the model was slightly better I'd be happy to pay what was being asked.
  4. I'm not sure that I did put anything forward. I'm not even sure if I was on RMWEB at that point, unless my memory truly is that bad. I don't suppose you have a link to the thread that had the wishlist?
  5. Can't say that I own any of those... Are there any glaring issues with those that warrant someone else having a go? As for me I feel like a 00 gauge S160 is right up Accurascale's alley
  6. At risk of turning this into a wishlist, what classes either steam, diesel or electric would you like to see them have a crack at?
  7. Well it turns out now that Tornado is in BR Green again... That invalidates one of my previous posts about sets that reflect current locomotives.
  8. Couldn't agree more. Small layouts are incredibly fun. I'm building a shunters puzzle on the cheap using set track and old Hornby buildings I got from a job lot on eBay. Slow going but very rewarding. Has Hornby ever made a video promoting this idea like with the family fun project? As for the Steampunk stuff. Making an RTR model Steampunk or Sci-Fi is all about experimenting, so I don't quiet see what Hornby's Bassett Lowke range is aiming for... Is it pre decorated with cogs, pipes and gears or do you glue it yourself? Non the less though the idea certainly has an appeal to it. At Warley last year you couldn't get near the Kato Pass layout there were that many people crowded round it. Bright colours, rockets, space marines, dinosaurs and it's a pretty compact track plan... Think it's maybe 5x2 or 6x2?
  9. Potentually, seeing as a beginner could join the hobby at any point. Same goes for 'younger modellers'... What by definition would you consider someone to be a younger modeller? It all seems to be very broad really...
  10. Your last point certainly stands out, especially as like you said with the P2 there was a main range and railroad range equivalent. Railroad isn't hard to detail to a high standard so your point about why bother certainly carries weight. I bought a railroad scotsman because I felt that a better paint job and some additional details can really improve the look of it. I must however say though that some modellers may want a highly detailed model but not have the knowledge to detail it themselves. A nice idea might be to have a low end and high end for almost every model offered. I feel like as long as manufacturers offer a high end and low end model of the same loco then that's fine to me. Like the Hornby/Lima 37 sitting at £75 direct from Hornby and the Bachmann 37 at £145 from rails (soon to be accurascale I think for high end), is almost half the price low enough for what is an older tooling albeit with a better mechanism?
  11. So are we satisfied that there doesn't need to be an alternate track type between junior and set track? In which case the next question to ask is whether or not the railroad range is an acceptable jump from junior, or does that need a stepping stone? Speaking from experience I went from Brio to Hornby albeit with airfix aircraft kits as a sort of bridge.
  12. Agreed, I suppose the question we could be asking is should there be a range between Hornby Junior and Hornby Railroad/Train Sets or are we satified that the jump is fine. Junior track looks very basic from looking at pictures. Maybe if it was more like the Kato track? Still made with metal rails, easy to slot together, no sharp fish plates, somehow compatible with standard 00 gauge track if you buy an adapter? That way all someone would need to do is buy a controller and some Locos that operate on DC as opposed to battery. That would make the Hornby train packs more viable. Loco's could be slighty more detailed than Junior with better paint jobs, maybe wire handrails.
  13. Another reason that Tornado is so well loved by younger people, or at least that's what I've seen when she's been on preserved lines... Easily marketed as 'As seen in Paddington bear 2' same goes for the Hughes Crab 13065 (Although that's now under overhaul) I do feel that we've hijacked this thread a little, it's not really focused on budget Loco's anymore
  14. Oh god, I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out Can a Mod change the title or does it have to be the OP?
  15. Great now I want to buy another 0-4-0 to do exactly that... I've not even finished the last one I modified, it's still in primer
  16. You make a valid point. When it comes to seeing steam on the mainline it is unlikely that you'd catch a glimpse of one unless you either went looking for it or got extremely lucky. As for going to a preseved line I have observed a lot of couples with little'ens just going to the railway for a day out, just as something to do. It's not out of the realm of possiblity that as they now do days out with Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol that a lot more may become interested in steam as a by-product of those visits. As for what sets you wind up with, I wouldn't mind seeing the Hornby Austerity/J94 demoted to trainset status. And besides if you name a set after a preserved line it may also promote that line, of course then you may end up with complaining that you're local isn't catered for. But just imagine: SVR - The Pioneer, Class 50 and MK1's in maroon GWSR - Cheltenham Races, Hall Class or Merchant Navy with MK1's in choc n cream (I know Foremarke Hall is a modified Hall but it's Hornby, what do they care) Swanage Railway - Battle of Britain or West Country with MK1's in green NYMR - Black 5 with MK1's in Blood n Custard Isle of Wight - Austerity 0-6-0 with Hornby 4 wheel coaches in green (not ideal but maybe if it came with 3 or 4) The possibilities are endless.
  17. That's true, it is a bit more expensive than the scotsman set but its not really in the condition you see it today. If the Scotsman train set was in BR green with deflectors and came with MK1's I feel it'd appeal to a wider audience.
  18. Right well I just saw this advertised by hattons. This is exactly what I was talking about, an engine thats out and about today with the appropriate coaching stock. https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/british-railways-60163-tornado-the-aberdonian-train-pack-era-11.html
  19. I didn't now the Hornby Deltic was rare, who'd have thought it? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Hornby-Railroad-R2879-BR-Class-55-St-PADDY-No-55001-DCC-Ready/143681167623?hash=item217410a107:g:X3gAAOSwq5FfNDeu
