  1. One minute, we're naturally thinking that everyone on a forum speaks from the same mind with the same voice, then we're remembering they don't 🙂 Trap I fall into all the time - I read forums, and it's like watching multiple personality disorder, until I remember the obvious point that it's multiple personalities posting 😉 In other news, sky is blue, gravity makes things fall etc.
  2. I have some of the Peco TT:120 track, I think it's excellent. There is currently only one point radius, but there's possibly another radius planned.
  3. Well, after a nice cup of tea. 🙂 I could have done a better job with my original post when I started this thread. More time, shorter letter etc. 🙂 I've un-confused my thoughts a bit: 1. I'm not out and about posting in the Bachmann, Hornby, Dapol, Cavalex, Heljan threads about chucking out packaging. But that all goes to the bin / recycling too. 2. It wasn't really guilt about the environmental impact. Whilst every little saving does help, the guilt-free solution would be to just stop buying plastic toy trains and shipping them across the oceans. A choice I haven't made. Resulting, as mentioned, in far too much stock in my loft. 3. Accurascale packaging is a crapload nicer than almost all other manufacturers' packaging. So the 'guilt' is about how nice it is, the effort AS put into presentation and showcasing, which I just stamp flat and put out for the Friday 6am collection (enthusiastically noisy collection crew also). As someone who also designs products, I feel a small kitten might die every time I do it. Can't say that about the red or blue boxes. But as this isn't a forum for un-confusing confused people, and it clearly is a first world problem, maybe we can stop here 🙂 I did keep the PTA boxes though because they're really space efficient and have a nice easy flip-top access.
  4. I've pre-ordered 2. Let's see whether I regret it 🙂 At least 50% of Dapol stock I buy gets moved on to a new home in short order. 😀 So it's a coin flip. 🪙
  5. Showed for me in the shopping cart. You have to be logged in to the site. The process wasn't bad, but it could be more seamless.
  6. And the Heljan TT:120 thread...and apparently the Accurascale TT:120 thread (no, they won't be doing TT) 😀 High thread count. Must be a sign of quality? Glad I'm not a mod, wouldn't have the patience for all this 🙂 I guess it aids CPMs though?
  7. Oops, this wasn't intended to start some ding-ding that p***ses on people's Sunday evenings 🙂 Nice cup of tea anyone? 😛
  8. +1, agree. 👍 That this needs to be said at all when it should be glaringly obvious is strange, but there we go 😀 Talk of Hornby claiming TT:120 as theirs exclusively is bizarre. Currently it's "theirs" only by dint of Hornby betting at least part of the farm on it, which nobody else fancies doing. If other manufacturers wanted to play they could lay their own table stakes, it's just obviously a bit early for that eh? 🤑 On the original topic, it's understandable but disappointing that Heljan felt driven out. I had a 31 on pre-order. I'm not in favour of the idea of Hornby as sole supplier of RTR stock. If I wasn't already running a business, I'd be looking at design and manufacturing for a line of TT wagons. Of all the things putting me off, competing with Hornby is not one of them. Talk is cheap though, and tooling is expensive 🙃 EDIT: found an old blog I had, seems to have an appropriate name 😛 https://ttfoundry.wordpress.com/
  9. Whilst this has several downsides, it's a space efficient way to store 12 PFAs 😬 Downsides are risk of damage to wagons, and it's still a faff putting them in/out as they have to be tightly packed so they don't rattle around. I didn't find a perfect solution yet. Warley Stock Boxes are good, but not efficient for some wagon sizes, and they're not cheap. Everything else is even less 'not cheap'. 🤑 Accurascale box shown in second photo just for scale.
  10. Flying Scotsman anniversary, and Christmas is coming. Scheduled real-world events often force product timelines. I suspect this is the same. Despite Hornby's apparent track record elsewhere, I doubt competition has much to do with it. Just my 2p, no more inside info than anyone else, but I've done product launches, nothing is ever perfect on the day.
  11. I like Revolution and what they do. 🙂 But the Hornby TT:120 wagon pricing seems reasonable at £17.50 for a HAA. At that price I wouldn't be expecting Revolution levels of quality 🤑
  12. Removable boiler top, for insertion of DCC and the as-yet-announced smoke generator. Alternatively, a mould line, for accurate 1960s nostalgia.
  13. After 63 pages of froth and wibble, it's so nice to have some actual evidence 🙂 Thanks 👍
  14. N has never appealed to me, but shortly before the Peco TT:120 announcement I started looking into N, because I'm bored of filling up this oval in OO. 😛 I'm not against N in any way at all, I don't think it needs defending or anything before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, or feels bizarrely threatened or anything. There are remarkable models in N. It's just not appealing to me. Meanwhile TT:120 does float my boat.
  15. If it helps, here's a picture (these are wildly different prototypes but eh) 🙂
  16. On the one hand, the risks you posit are real...but then again, what is life without a little risk in it? 🙂 On the other hand, one could argue that Hornby already being in HO, TT and N via Jouef, Electrotren, Rivarossi, Arnold etc also poses a risk to OO. Or does it? 🧐 If Hornby do go bust, the existing business (tooling, intellectual property etc) will be picked up by someone else, maybe at fire-sale prices, and some form of production would resume. Because this is the internet, let me say I'm only replying to try and reduce your worries, I'm not out to try and prove your argument is wrong. 😉 It's only toy trains after all.
  17. Predicting the future is a mug's game, but I think Hornby alone cannot grow it. Single primary supplier makes it less attractive for some people. 🧐 At some point we'll see if Hornby are prepared to grow an ecosystem or if they want UK TT:120 to be their own trainset where nobody else can play. Noisy parts of this forum have already formed their own conclusions about that, but I wouldn't take racing tips from them. Nor buy pork belly futures on their advice. 🤑
  18. I should stop feeding the trolls....(whether it's deliberate or accidental, parts of this thread definitely fit the original meaning of forum trolling - which arose from the fishing job of "putting a line out, and seeing who bites") * But as I have the whole day to waste... You're worried because Hornby might go bankrupt? Or you're worried they'll abandon investment in OO and just sweat the existing tooling? Or none of the above? * the under-the-bridge troll use is a later coincidence as it happens to provide an accurate physical portrait for some of the basement-dwellers who undertake trolling, although some of the most artful trolls in fact look and act rather differently and hide in plain sight.
  19. I don't understand how this is news? 🙂 When I left the hobby in the mid 90s. Hornby's range was a standing joke at that point. When I returned to the UK hobby about 5 years ago, the first thing that surprised me was how much good stuff Hornby now offer. The second was that Hornby were still dining out on the joke items. It's always been a toy company with some trains, and I'm often curious why they're not bankrupt. But meanwhile they have a grand of TT:120 pre-orders off me, so we'll see if the joke is on me or not. 😛
  20. Kismet. What will be will be. It's just plastic trains.
  21. Hang on fixing it for you...here we go 🙂 It's also unquestionably had the worst reaction from the market. certain parts of the membership of rmweb, a group which is seen as a bit of a joke by some other parts of the hobby. 🙃 The rest is unknown as of yet. The great thing about time, all we have to do is wait, and it just goes by, very little effort needed.
  22. Thanks, also in other news there's news in the news. But I don't suppose that will stop people forum cross-posting things that are already known or quite findable. 🙂 Happy Friday 😀
  23. If you want to be certain pre-order. If you are happy to gamble don't pre-order. 🙃
