After a 2 year gap, the MMDMRC is pleased to announce our annual show returns on Saturday 7th January 2023 at the Cox Green Community Centre, Highfield Lane, Maidenhead SL6 3AX. For more info, please visit our website: www.mmdmrc.org.uk MMDMRCMaidenheadFlyers Flyers A4 2023.pdf
  3. JB Model World is who I buy mine from, the Really Useful Box type for my 4mm stock and the A4 plastic box version for the TT and 009 stock. As Tony said above, he trades at shows or on ebay (Chevy625), but doesn't otherwise have a webshop. He'll be at the Maidenhead show on Sat 7th Jan.
  4. Changing of the Light - New Model Army
  5. Last Christmas - iLiKETRAiNS (look it up on youtube, best cover ever!) 😉
  6. Cider Dreaming Time - Blyth Power
  7. A most welcome announcement - Railtec kindly did me an H0 version of the custom coach nunbers set a while back, but it appears they've now made the whole range (thousands of items) available in 1/87 https://www.railtec-transfers.com/catalog.php?type=5&gauge=HO&region=1&era=5 Happy days!
  8. Simple enough in plasticard, especially if you have a Silhouette Cutter 😉
  9. Just out of interest (and to check a possible clash) is there a provisional date for Warley 2023, please?
  10. But if you are *that* disillusioned with the hobby (or at least your current plans), you'd end up selling it off anyway? Can you hide/disguise the sharp corner curves (cuttings, trees, etc), or perhaps have a more circular plan (rather than a series of straight bits connected by sharp corners) with a shallower continuous curve? What's the make up of your current stock - is it wholly long, high-speed main-line passenger stock, long block-train freight or would it allow you to model a secondary line with smaller trains?

  16. I'd say 7/10,maybe 8/10, provided Hornby adhere to the NEM standard.
  17. On my Czech TT fleet for Nové Město (see sig for link to layout thread), I've adopted the Kühn version of the Tillig coupler. This has a small tab on the underside of the head which helps with vertical alignment. Kühn sells these in bulk packs (part #74900 for 24 heads) and being NEM they just plug into the standard 358 socket. Tillig do a conversion coupler of their head on the BTTB-style sprung mount: Tillig #08847 is a 10-pack. Operationally on an exhibition layout, they are fairly reliable, but not perfect - coupling on curves can be problematic. I use a double-ended shunting pole with a magnet on one end to raise the hooks from above and a flat plate at the other to lift the hook tails from below. One friend has swapped the couplers on his Czech TT fleet for the Dapol N gauge Easi-Mate buckeye-type, but at over £5 per vehicle, that's a bit too pricey for me.
  18. I'll look forward to that - I'm tucked over in the corner with my Czech TT micro - one advantage of modelling 'foreign' is I'm less likely to get pulled up on any dodgy operating practices by those that know 😜
  19. You could adopt Lance Mindheim's approach and mount working model engineering vac/steam bags on the layout fascia at a point where such activity is likely to occur, perhaps along with a handbrake wheel, or a wagon brake lever where pinning down of brakes might happen. http://www.miniaturerailwaysupply.com/vacuum/vacuum.htm Like you, I do like to see prototypical operation (though perhaps not to the extent some of our Colonial Cousins across the Pond, with full paperwork for trains and a 2 or 3 man crew for each train). So when operating a layout (as I was at Scaleforum last month), I do stop short, then buffer-up, allow time for the invisible miniature shunter to hook-up and the brake test to be carried out. I'll even put instanters in the short position as required :) I just find it more satisfying to do so.
