No problem, glad it was useful. The Heljan 33 should be similar to the Bachmann diesel method, as they also have a 2mm axle diameter. Coaches should be a straightforward swap of wheelsets. Steam is a little more difficult, as you need to be able to accurately quarter the wheels, be it either regauging the existing (which may or may not be doable, depending on how the wheelsets are constructed) or replacement with finer wheels - the Alan Gibson range certainly contains a conversion set for the M7 which covers the driving and bogie wheels, plus axles. Bearings/gear and conn-rods you reuse the Hornby ones. At least with inside cylinder steam you don't have valve gear to worry about!

Pre-owned Lacks regularly pop up on Facebook Marketplace, ebay, etc. For folk not confident in woodwork, Lacks are a cheap/easy/quick method to getting a strong and rigid baseboard.

Would Spraymount work? Spray onto the framing, then carefully position onto the glazing add a bit of weight and allow to set.

Hi Keith Here's my method for Bachmann diesels: 1. unclip bogie sideframes and pull wheelsets out. Reuse existing wheels 2a. Gently ease each wheel outwards on the axle, ideally ising a wheel puller to keep things all square and equally on either side, until an EM gauge back to back will go between the wheel backs. Repeat for all axles. Replace with finer wheels 2b. Remove 1 wheel entirely, slide off and save bearings and drive gear. The gear may need some force to shift it off the axle - support the gear in vice jaws and gently tap the axle though. 3. prepare the replacement wheelset - remove 1 wheel and slide on bearing + gear +bearing. You can spline the centre of the axle by gripping very, very hard with serrated-jawed pliers or similar. Put the removed wheel back on and set with EM back-to-back. 4. File/grind off the pin-points if applicable (e.g. Romford/Gibson/Maygib coach wheelsets) 5. Tweak pick-ups outwards to bear on wider gauge flanges/wheelbacks as required. 6. Push wheelsets back into place. You should be able to test-run at this point. 7. check if bogie sideframes will easily clip back on without fouling wheels - The later Bachmann Class 20 bogie frames may need some of the brake linkage thinning or removing. This method should also work for Heljan locos, which also use a 2mm axle diameter. You can also replace pin-point axles with 2mm diameter steel rod. Here's 3 axles I prepared (much) earlier, all from my Bachmann Class 20s regauged to EM R - L Bachmann RTR wheels pulled out to EM Gibson 14mm coach discs Keen-Maygib solid steel 14mm coach discs. 2nd pic shows the regauged Bachmann rtr wheelsets in an EM back-to-back gauge. I've done a few dozen rtr diesel EM conversions. Depending on how fine the rtr wheels are, you can just hoik the wheels out to EM on the original axles. Bachmanns can certainly be done this way. On others, I've salvaged the gears and bearings from the rtr wheelsets and fitted either Romford or Keen-Maygib 14mm coach disc wheelsets. Things like the Hornby 31 or 50, with stub axles (also Bachmann DMUs), the wheels can be drifted outwards on the stub axles for EM, this also preserves the existing pick-up arrangements. Your other alternative for a 24 is the Sutton Loco Works one, which you can order as EM RTR.
